How media bias fuels the facade of Palestinian nationhood and ignores accountability
FOR MANY of the world’s leading media outlets, there isn’t even the need for an honest accounting of the war dead. Hamas says 45,000 have been killed – who cares how many are militants or if the numbers are massaged with calculated impunity? Hamas says yet another Israeli attack has killed journalists – never mind if they’re also freelancing as Islamist terrorists.UNRWA's Refusal to Accept Israeli Sovereignty Will Harm the Palestinians
Meanwhile, despite being the elected leader of a Western democracy, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has been branded a genocidaire – unable to enter Poland to honor the 80th anniversary of Auschwitz’s liberation owing to an international arrest warrant by a bogus global court.
And Israeli cultural and civic groups are being banned from global gatherings. Most recently, the delegation to the World Bowls Tour was forbidden from participating in the event in Great Britain next month after an outcry from the pro-Palestinian Action Network, which branded Israel an “apartheid and genocidal state.” (The World Bowls Tour has since reversed its decision.)
And yet much of Hamas’s leadership still travels freely across the Middle East, while pro-Palestinian films continue to be hyped out in Hollywood.
As Hamas refuses to confirm its hostage count, both Israel and the world are forced to negotiate with literal terrorists so that terrorized civilians might go free. Gleeful murderers must be set loose so that Israel may bring their innocent back home.
Nothing is demanded of those murderers to go free, no conditions imposed to ensure they, like Yahya Sinwar, don’t re-offend in an even bloodier and more spectacular fashion. Lots of impunity – little accountability.
For many, a Palestinian state remains the ultimate goal – possibly as a byproduct of Israel’s eventual normalization with Saudi Arabia. Both are still possible.
But even if statehood were achieved, how would Palestinians govern if they never learned the most basic building block of sovereignty – accountability? There can be no sovereignty without accountability to its citizens, neighbors, regional allies, and, ultimately, the global community. Once again, accountability has never been something Palestinians have done particularly well.
As 2025 arrives, both increased military activity in Gaza and yet another potential hostage deal are crowding the headlines. Israel, as always, is being pressured to compromise while the Palestinians continue to play hardball.
This may be business as usual – but it’s a bad business. It’s bad for Israel, which lacks a serious negotiation partner; for the Gaza civilians forced by their craven leadership to jockey for martyrdom; and for the Palestinian nation that so many pretend already exists.
Many hope it never will, but for those who believe that it must, the era of carte blanche diplomacy must end in Gaza, Doha, and Ramallah. And in its place, the gift that no one has dared to demand – the gift of Palestinian accountability.
Israeli authorities found that more than 2,135 UNRWA employees were also terrorists in either Hamas or Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ). One-fifth of UNRWA school administrators were Hamas terrorists, and 10% of the senior positions (school principals and their deputies, directors, and deputy directors of training centers) were members of Hamas or PIJ.The Man Who Wasn’t There_ An Account Of A Fake Witness To The Gaza War
UNRWA's facilities in Gaza had been turned into terror bases. Hamas had dug extensive tunnels under UNRWA headquarters in Gaza City in which they placed one of their main computer server farms. The electricity for the computers, as well as water, came directly, and in plain sight, from within UNRWA's headquarters.
Having concluded that UNRWA had lost all credibility and morphed into a vassal of the terrorists, Israel's Knesset passed laws on Oct. 28, 2024, to end Israel's June 1967 invitation to UNRWA to operate in Israel, Judea, Samaria, and Gaza. The laws will come into full force on January 30, 2025.
For 76 years, UNRWA has served as the primary vehicle for perpetuating the lie that the "Palestine refugees" will one day demographically and democratically destroy Israel. Under UNRWA, the number of "Palestine refugees" has swelled from 711,000 in 1949 to six million in 2023.
Despite having been given sufficient notice, terror-infested UNRWA is refusing to wrap up its operations and transfer its functions to other actors. It would seem that UNRWA believes it can force itself upon Israel, irrespective of the new legislation.
However, by acting in this manner, UNRWA is doing a disservice to the people to whom it provides services. The international community would be wise to find suitable alternatives.
The charge by Israel’s enemies that it is committing a genocide against the Palestinians is false, malicious and a complete inversion of the truth. It relies on disinformation and invented legal standards to deny the Jewish state its right to self-defense following Hamas’s genocidal attack on October 7, 2023. Nevertheless, it is being promoted by certain Israelis, whose words are used as an authoritative validation of the bogus claim. One such Israeli– who serves as a hero to those who delight in vilifying Israel– is Lee Mordechai, whose false “genocide” charges against Israel provides fuel for the delegitimization of the Jewish state.
Below is an article by Yigal Carmon — a former Israeli intelligence officer, counterterrorism adviser, and founder of the Middle East Media Research Institute — debunking Mordechai’s sanctimonious accusations.
Introduction
The website “Bearing Witness to the Israel-Gaza War,”1 run by Israeli historian Lee Mordechai,2 claims to be “both a public statement and an archive… [that] aims to make sense of a deeply complex and troubling situation” in Gaza.
Mordechai states that his website/archive “compiles evidence from reliable sources, including humanitarian organizations, investigative reports, and firsthand accounts” of war crimes committed by Israel against the people of Gaza 3 – which, according to Mordechai, meet the definition of “genocide” (in Mordechai’s words, “my definition of genocide”).4
This document will refute several major claims made by Mordechai on his website.
A Note On Mordechai’s Website
Mordechai’s website, Witnessing-the-gaza-war.com, appears to be inaccessible from an Israel-based server. It is unclear why this is so, and whether or not this is deliberate.5 “Witness”
A Misleading Use Of The Term In The Name Of Mordechai’s Website
The first and most basic element to be refuted in Mordechai’s project is his self-definition as “a witness.” Mordechai did not witness any of the alleged war crimes he cites in his report. The name of his website – “bearing witness to the Israel-Gaza war” – is misleading; what Mordechai does on his website is present a collection of information from a wide range of news websites and social media platforms, and reframe it as “evidence.” He has witnessed none of these firsthand.
Harnessing Irrelevant Expertise (History Of The Justinianic Plague) To Claim Authority
Mordechai begins his statement of purpose with the words: “I, Lee Mordechai, an Historian by profession and an Israeli citizen…”6. He harnesses his academic authority as “a historian by profession” to provide pseudo-academic basis to his claims of genocide.
Mordechai’s field of expertise in academia is the Justinianic plague and global pandemics,7 which fall under the research category of Environmental History. Mordechai is not an expert or an academic authority on the topic of genocide. Before publishing this document, Mordechai never dealt with the subject.8 He uses his title of a Late Antiquity historian (AD 541–549) to muster whatever authority and stature he can so as to appear knowledgeable in a field in which he has no expertise whatsoever.
Karoline Preisler: How One German Woman Stands Up To Antisemitic Hate
The Hamas-led massacre of October 7, 2023, has been followed by a persistent wave of ugly antisemitic and pro-Hamas demonstrations in cities across Europe. The European and Western societies had little to offer in terms of resistance to the resurfacing Jew-hatred in their midst. No, those Leeds fans were not ‘tragedy chanting’
Apart from a few bright and brave exceptions, these anti-Jewish hate fests have largely gone unchallenged. Sadly, nowhere in Europe is it riskier to stand up for Israel and the Jewish people than in Germany, so much so that a lone woman confronting these angry mobs has rightly earned the title of Germany’s ‘bravest’ demonstrator.

Trust me. I'm not going away.
The hostages must be released.#BringThemHome #RapeIsNotResistance pic.twitter.com/gGXQJDUPgH
Where most men fail to defy these antisemitic mobs, Karoline Preisler, a 53-year-old mother of four, stood up to them — with nothing more than a hand-made placard and boundless courage.
The German newspaper Bild calls Preisler “Germany’s bravest demonstrator.”
“She is the woman who stands alone against the mob,” Germany’s most-read newspaper wrote in May 2024. “Preisler is in the middle of a hostile crowd. The Islamists and left-wing movements are marching here hands in hand [in Berlin].”
“The signs are often snatched away from [her] hands,” the Bild notes. Preisler is accosted, slandered, and often has signs grabbed away from her hands. A handful of cops is all that separates her from frenzied mobs, mainly comprising of young migrant men.
2024 was the year we learned that standing silently and holding a sign that reads: "Rape is not resistance" is an act of courage. pic.twitter.com/46HgVapd5h
— Aviva Klompas (@AvivaKlompas) December 25, 2024
Preisler, an expert in German constitutional law, is affiliated with the country’s pro-business Free Democratic Party (FDP). The fact that she grew up in Communist East Germany may explain why she detests totalitarian ideologies of Islamism and Leftism — the driving forces behind this old-new Antisemitism in Europe.
“One year since the Hamas massacre, FDP politician Karoline Preisler continues to fight against Antisemitism and for the release of hostages. She is insulted by pro-Palestinian demonstrators for this,” German weekly Der Spiegel noted October 2024.”
The mainstream media and officialdom’s real problem with the Solomon chant is that it flies in the face of acceptable, elite opinion. Above all, by singing this song, Leeds fans are refusing to go along with mainstream, establishment anti-Israel sentiment. That’s what sticks in the craw of the now outraged chattering classes. In the shape of this one chant, they have been reminded that not everyone shares their view of Israelis as evil aggressors who should be condemned at all times.Hindu leaders shame Albanese government over failure to ‘stamp out’ antisemitism
Sure, the Israel-Palestine debate is as contentious as it gets. Whatever side one takes, feathers are bound to be ruffled. The irony here is that it is precisely those segments of society complaining about the Leeds fans who have done their utmost to bring contentious politics into football stadiums in recent years. We’ve seen the institutionalisation of ‘taking the knee’ and the promotion of Black Lives Matter. And we’ve also seen the LGBTQ+ agenda advanced at every opportunity. But when fans sing a song with a vaguely political message the right-thinking classes don’t agree with, they cry ‘tragedy chanting’.
So, what should be done about the song? The simple answer is absolutely nothing. It is just football fans singing a song that only has real meaning within the context of football fandom. Fans should be free to express their support for their team in whatever way they see fit.
The fact that this chant has caused any comment at all is yet more evidence of the censorious instincts of officialdom and many in the media. They have shown once again that they are determined to police what people say. And they will leap on anything that transgresses what they deem to be ‘acceptable’, especially when expressed by the football-going masses.
Despite the authorities’ best efforts, however, football stadiums remain places where adults express themselves freely, often in X-rated language. If past attempts to quieten down fans’ celebratory chanting are anything to go by, this latest attempt will fail badly. There have been repeated attempts to stop Spurs fans describing themselves as ‘yids’ – a reference to Spurs’ historically Jewish fanbase. And these attempts have merely succeeded in prompting the fans to embrace the term more fiercely.
So don’t be surprised if Leeds fans, far from being cowed, belt out the Solomon song with even more gusto at the next game.
Sky News host James Macpherson discusses how Hindu leaders are slamming the Albanese government’s failure to “stamp out” antisemitism.
“Hindu leaders here in Australia, they are warning religious intolerance is being ‘incubated’,” Mr Macpherson said.
“Through the Albanese government’s failure to stamp out antisemitism.”

Bipartisan chorus of officials call on U.S. airlines to restore service to Israel
When Michael Rosen made the decision to move to Israel with his family from San Diego a decade ago, he knew that frequent travel back to the United States was the only way to make it work. As an attorney, he’d need to to appear in court and meet with clients in the U.S. — onerous, but necessary to pay the bills in Israel.Carter Embellished His Role in Camp David Accords
For several years, his monthly trips stateside were not a big deal; even when last-minute business came up, he never had trouble buying a ticket for just a couple days later, usually on Delta. But since the Oct. 7 Hamas terror attacks and ensuing war, travel to Israel from the U.S. (and vice versa) has become a headache, for everyone from frequent fliers to first-time visitors.
For all but two brief periods in 2024, the major U.S. carriers — Delta, United and American — have not flown to Tel Aviv since the war broke out, citing security concerns. El Al, now passengers’ only option for direct flights to and from America, doesn’t have enough planes to meet travelers’ demand, leading to crushingly high prices and flights that are often sold out weeks or months in advance.
Some European airlines have recently resumed flights to Israel after Israel reached a cease-fire deal with Lebanon, while several Gulf airlines have been flying to Israel throughout the conflict, including the United Arab Emirates-based Etihad Airways, which is now operating three daily flights to Tel Aviv. But those realities have not swayed U.S. airline executives.
At a meeting of United’s board of directors in early December, United Airlines CEO Scott Kirby said he has “no interest in returning to Tel Aviv only to pull out for a third time,” according to a source with knowledge of the conversation. United has also not resumed service to Amman, where it flew during the first several months of the war but suspended service in August.
In March 2024, United became the first U.S. airline to resume flights to Tel Aviv, but stopped them weeks later after Iran fired hundreds of missiles and drones at Israel. In June, Delta and United began operating flights to Tel Aviv again — but suspended them by August, amid an escalation in fighting between Israel and the terrorist group Hezbollah in Lebanon. Delta said its flights to Israel would be canceled until the end of March 2025, and American said it won’t resume service until September 2025. United flights are canceled until further notice.
The U.S. airlines may not see themselves as part of the broader messaging war over Israel, nor are they likely to care that decisions affecting a fraction of their overall flights could have a big impact on tiny Israel. But the choice to suspend service to a country whose war against an Islamist terror group has coincided with a global rise in antisemitism and calls to boycott the Jewish state is seen by some as a de facto boycott, regardless of airline executives’ intentions.
“One of the things that Iran is trying to accomplish is to isolate Israel economically. This is just another sign of that,” Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) told JI in April.
Israeli Prof. Gerald Steinberg authored Menachem Begin & the Israel-Egypt Peace Process in 2019, based on Israeli documentation of the Camp David negotiations. Few of Carter's critics suggest that a peace deal could have been reached without American sponsorship, but Steinberg told the Sun in an interview that some of Carter's efforts at Camp David were "counterproductive" and actually delayed the agreements. This can be said of his emphasis on the Palestinian issue, which had already been settled between the two leaders.Sen. Jacky Rosen to join Senate Foreign Relations Committee
Steinberg said that Carter "very strongly embellished his role" in the negotiations. He added that the narrative that Carter pushed the proceedings through against the reluctance of Begin "is completely unsupported by the historical record" and that many of Carter's summaries of events "are very different than the way they are described in the Israeli notes."
Steinberg also notes that in the years after his presidency, Carter's 2006 book, Palestine: Peace Not Apartheid, "helped legitimize and propel this propaganda campaign and 21st century blood libel." "Carter embraced and propagated the Palestinian Arab victimhood narrative, joining in blaming Israel - rather than 100 years of rejectionism, wars, terror, incitement, etc. - for the conflict and suffering."
Even though President Biden faces criticism for his policies on Israel from pro-Israel advocates, Steinberg says, "Biden still goes out of his way, even now, to say 'I am a Zionist. I support Israel.'" Carter, on the other hand, "never expressed himself in those kind of warm terms."
Sen. Jacky Rosen (D-NV) is set to join the Senate Foreign Relations Committee in the new Congress, bringing one of the Democrats’ strongest pro-Israel voices to a committee roster that includes several lawmakers who voted to block some U.S. aid to Israel.AOC compares Israel’s war against Hamas to Vietnam
The Democrats on the Foreign Relations Committee will be losing outgoing Sens. Ben Cardin (D-MD) who was a staunch supporter of Israel. Former Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ), another vocal supporter of Israel, also sat on the committee.
The Democrats’ roster on the committee is increasingly dominated by lawmakers who voted in favor of resolutions to block U.S. aid, including Ranking Member Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) and Sens. Chris Murphy (D-CT), Tim Kaine (D-VA), Jeff Merkley (D-OR), Brian Schatz (D-HI) and Chris Van Hollen (D-MD).
Sens. Chris Coons (D-DE), Cory Booker (D-NJ) and Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) will round out the committee roster. Coons and Duckworth have also been critical of Israeli military operations in Gaza but voted against blocking U.S. aid.
“At a time when America’s adversaries are looking to upend our global leadership and destabilize our alliances, I’m joining the Senate Foreign Relations Committee to be a strong voice supporting our allies and fighting for freedom, democracy, and justice around the globe,” Rosen said in a statement. “I’ll continue working with colleagues on both sides of the aisle to strengthen U.S. global partnerships and counter threats from Iran, Russia, and China. As a member of the committee, I’ll also make sure the United States’ commitment to supporting our democratic ally Israel remains unwavering and unconditional.”
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), in an interview last month, described the war in Gaza as a generational political force among younger U.S. voters, comparing it to the impact of the Vietnam War.Californians sue two Dem congressmen for voting for military aid for Israel
“I have said this directly to Democratic leadership. I’ve communicated this to the White House, that this is our [generation’s] Vietnam,” Ocasio-Cortez said in an interview on “The Majority Report with Sam Seder,” a progressive radio show and podcast. “Not just in terms of the party — this is our country’s Vietnam.”
She argued that Democratic leaders are underestimating the impact that the conflict is having.
“I think what a lot of people do not yet understand is they think that some of these hemorrhages are maybe ideological, they think maybe it is an ethnic thing,” Ocasio-Cortez said. “I don’t think there is appreciation yet about how generationally radicalizing this moment is and how shocked people are at how far the general inertia is willing to go, as if we’re not seeing what’s happening right before our eyes.”
She argued that speaking out against Israel and the U.S.’ support for it is the only way to retain “some sort of legitimacy if we seek to reinstate an order around human rights and actual care for democracy.”
The New York progressive suggested that she lost her race to become the ranking member of the House Oversight Committee — a role that will be taken up by Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-VA), who’s also been critical of Israeli operations in Gaza — in part because of her accusations that Israel is committing genocide and that the U.S. government is complicit.
Constituents in northern California filed a class-action lawsuit in late December against Reps. Mike Thompson and Jared Huffman—both California Democrats—for their votes on April 20 supporting U.S. military aid to Israel.DANNY DANON: UN has failed Gaza. It’s time for a new era
The congressmen “exceeded the constitutional limitations on their tax and spend authority by voting to authorize the funding of the Israeli military when they were aware, or should have been aware, that the Israeli military was committing genocide in Gaza, which made their votes a violation of customary international and federal law that prohibits complicity in genocide,” per the suit, which was filed in federal court in San Francisco on Dec. 19.
The 21 plaintiffs listed on the suit state that the two congressmen acted unconstitutionally when they voted, along with 364 other members of Congress, to approve H.R.8034, the Israel Security Supplemental Appropriations Act 2024, in April. (Seven members abstained and 58 voted against it.)
Taxpayers Against Genocide stated that 500 people are part of the suit, in which they are represented by Szeto-Wong Law.
The suit cites the International Court of Justice, Amnesty International and U.N. adviser Francesca Albanese, who has a long history of antisemitic remarks, to support its claim that the Jewish state is committing genocide.
The plaintiffs “have suffered and continue to suffer concrete, particularized and actual or imminent injury as a result of defendants’ conduct. Each of the class representatives has experienced moral injury caused by defendants’ votes in favor of the Israel Security Supplemental Appropriations Act, which forced the class representatives to be complicit in the genocide carried out by the State of Israel in Gaza due to the tax dollars paid by class representatives being used to fund Israeli military activity in Gaza,” the suit states.
It’s time to address an uncomfortable truth. UNRWA-Gaza has monumentally failed the people of Gaza. It has failed in its original mandate to educate Gazans and help, not hinder, peace. And, as a UN agency, it has become overrun by terrorism.
Rather than focusing on education, health care and social services, UNRWA-Gaza has been unmasked, offering relief – and cover – to Hamas, an internationally recognized terrorist organization, while also working hand-in-hand with their diplomatic proxy, the Palestinian Authority. Together, they perpetuate a virulent hatred of Jews, glorify violence and prolong conflict.
UNRWA was established in 1949, a year after the establishment of the State of Israel. While refugees around the world have relied on temporary aid from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the Palestinians have had an agency of their own. But this unique agency was created not to solve a problem, but to preserve one. UNRWA has entrenched Palestinians’ status as permanent refugees and has ensured that generations remain locked in hatred and rejectionism.
Palestinian hate towards Israelis and Jews didn’t occur in a vacuum. The systematic indoctrination of hatred begins in the classroom. Here’s a passage from a fifth-grade textbook taught at schools funded and supported by the U.N. and its member states: "Dalal Mughrabi, a name etched in glory, led with unmatched bravery. Her operation brought pride to the Palestinian cause, reminding us that the blood of martyrs paves the way to liberation. In her footsteps, we teach our children to aspire to heroism and martyrdom, as these are the marks of a nation’s strength."
The ‘operation’ cited here was no noble cause – and Mughrabi was no hero. She was a Palestinian terrorist with innocent blood on her hands, having plotted the Coastal Road Massacre in Tel Aviv in 1978 that left 38 innocent Israeli civilians dead, including 13 children.
UNRWA has failed to teach peace. It has also failed to advance peace. Its schools and facilities have been converted into weapon depots and launching pads for rocket attacks on Israeli civilian centers.

‘This is how you deal with bullies’ World Bowls Tour overturns ban on Israelis following politicians’ outrage
The decision to prevent Israeli competitors from taking part in the World Indoor Bowls Championships later this month has been reversed.Guardian completely rewrites article on Israeli athlete 'ban'
The Board of the World Bowls Tour (WBT), the competition’s organisers, wrote to Zvika Hadar, President of the Professional Bowlers Association in Israel, and apologised for the withdrawal of the invitation to Israeli competitors Daniel Alomin, Amnon Amar and Itai Rigbi.
In the letter, they expressed sorrow “for any upset or offence that we have caused by the withdrawal of the invitation to the three members of PBA Israel in advance of the January 2025 championships.”
They claimed that: “This was absolutely not our intention; however as we made clear, we had found ourselves in a very difficult position in relation to the security of the venue and to the competitors and other attendees.”
But that “over the past 48 hours we have been exploring practical ways in which our concerns could be overcome, so as to enable the invitation to PBA Israel to be reinstated … The WBT Board is accordingly satisfied that this increased level of security which will be in place is sufficient to be able to welcome the PBA Israel Team to the event”.
The JC has reported that the Norfolk Palestine Solidarity Campaign (NPSC) launched a social media campaign, calling on the event’s venue, Hopton Potters Resort in Great Yarmouth, to boycott the Israeli bowlers.
WBT had originally claimed that it made the decision not to allow Israelis to participate after challenges involving the participation of an Israeli player at the Scottish International Open in November.
Shalom Ben Ami withdrew after more than 4,000 people signed a petition, organised by Show Israeli Genocide the Red Card (The Red Card Group) and Scottish Sport for Palestine (SSP), against his participation.
The decision to prevent Israelis from taking part was met with widespread outrage.
Yesterday, the Guardian published an article by their chief sports reporter Sean Ingel on Israeli players being ‘banned’ from next month’s World Indoor Bowls Championships in Norfolk after a campaign by anti-Israel groups (“Israelis banned from competing in World Indoor Bowls Championships”, Dec, 31):MSCI seems to remove anti-Israel ratings of Motorola, Caterpillar
Here are the first several paragraphs of the original article:
Israeli players have been banned from next month’s World Indoor Bowls Championships in Norfolk after a campaign by pro-Palestinian groups. The decision was widely condemned by Jewish groups and the local MP, Rupert Lowe, who called it a victory for “the mob”.
Three Israelis were expected to compete in the tournament in Hopton-on-Sea – with Daniel Alomin due to play in the singles and Amnon Amar and Itai Rigbi in the pairs – but their invitations have since been withdrawn.
The World Bowls Tour (WBT) said in a statement that its decision had been taken after the involvement of Israeli bowlers at the Scottish International Open in August had produced “a significant escalation in related political concerns”.
“As a result of the intensity of the situation, the WBT Board, in consultation with our event partners and other relevant stakeholders, has made the difficult decision to withdraw the invitation for Israel to participate in the forthcoming World Indoor Championships. Bowls is, and always has been, a sport that unites people and this choice reflects our commitment to protecting the championships and ensuring they run smoothly for everyone involved.”
However the Norfolk Palestine Solidarity Campaign said the move came about after joint action with Scottish Sports for Palestine and Show Israeli Genocide the Red Card.
However, later that same day, we noted that WBT reversed its decision to ban Israelis from the competition following letters from UK Lawyers for Israel pointing out that their decision was illegal. Jonathan Turner, chief executive of UKLFI commented: “We are very pleased that the WBT Board has reversed its illegal decision to exclude the Israeli players. The absolute prohibition on direct discrimination in UK law is deliberate and ensures that those providing services cannot justify discrimination on grounds of pressure or threats from bigots.”
We then tweeted the Guardian journalist alerting him of the WBT’s reversal.
Ingle, as you can see, thanked us for the heads up, and then completely re-wrote the article, which is now titled (“Israelis free to play at World Indoor Bowls Championships after U-turn”, Dec. 31):
While we commend the journalist for responding to our tweet and re-writing the article, it’s odd, to say the least, that there’s no editor’s note informing readers that it was completely re-written.
The major, New York-based investment advisory firm MSCI, which reported nearly $725 million in operating revenue in the third quarter of 2024, appears to have removed damaging assessments that it assigned to Motorola and Caterpillar based on their operation in Israel-controlled territory, according to environment, social and governance reports for the two companies that were provided to JNS.‘Overpaid underperformers’: TV host blasts public servants trying to boycott HP
MSCI appears to have made the changes after a probe, which the Illinois Investment Policy Board opened last year about whether the firm was violating state law by flagging the companies with “controversy” ratings for doing business in eastern Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria, and in internationally recognized Israeli territory along the Gazan border.
A telecommunications behemoth, Motorola is based in Chicago. The construction equipment manufacturer Caterpillar was headquartered in Deerfield, Ill., before moving to Irving, Texas, in 2022. (JNS sought comment from MSCI, as well as from Motorola and Caterpillar.)
Richard Goldberg, a senior adviser at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, told JNS that “while it’s good news to see less BDS going on at MSCI, we are obviously left wondering why BDS controversies still remain targeting so many Israeli companies.” (BDS refers to the movement to boycott Israel.)
“This appears to be a politically motivated change in ratings that proves MSCI’s ESG controversy system is anything but objective,” added Goldberg, who helped write the Illinois law that bars boycotting Israel. “It stands to reason that if states like Florida, New Jersey or New York now open their own investigations, the remaining BDS controversies would magically disappear soon, too.”
JNS reported previously that MSCI seemed to rely heavily on anti-Israel sources and news articles to develop its environment, social and governance (ESG) ratings, which are designed to guide socially conscious investors in their decision-making.
Sky News host Danica De Giorgio has blasted public service campaigners who called for a boycott of computer giant Hewlett Packard over the company's alleged links with Israel.

Hamas by Any Other Name: The Independent’s Masterclass on Biased Sources
News consumers don’t often get a free masterclass in how not to tell a story. But that’s precisely what The Independent did when it failed to mention Hamas even once in its report on Gaza.BBC bases Gaza hospital report on claims from Hamas functionaries
The story — published without a Gaza dateline by the paper’s senior Asia correspondent — relied on multiple sources that sound neutral but are in fact affiliated with Hamas, and made it seem like Israel wages a war against Gaza, not against the terrorists.
Biased Sources
When it’s impossible to get professional reporters on the ground in Gaza, journalists should be extra careful with the sources they use.
But Maroosha Muzaffar, The Independent’s Senior Reporter in Asia, did the exact opposite — either out of bias or ignorance.
Here are the sources she relied upon to report on casualties of overnight Israeli airstrikes, as well as the current situation in the enclave:
Shehab News Agency and the Palestinian Information Center — both affiliated with Hamas. The former was blocked by Facebook in 2021 for promoting violence.
Al Jazeera — The Qatari mouthpiece, which even the Palestinian Authority banned recently over its support for terrorists.
The Gaza Health Ministry — A Hamas-run body.
The Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics — A Ramallah-based institute that receives its data from the Hamas-run Gaza Health Ministry.
None of these affiliations are clarified in The Independent’s report. And a short Israeli response about evacuation notices to civilians before the strikes is mentioned only in the sixth paragraph.
So readers are bombarded by what appears to be damning information against Israel from various independent and neutral sources, all associated with Hamas, which isn’t mentioned at all.
Readers are of course not informed that the same Abu-Al Rish was also party to the spreading of disinformation about the Al Ahli hospital explosion back in October 2023. Neither are they told of terrorist activities at the Indonesian hospital.
In addition to those Hamas sources, the BBC’s report also promotes statements from the UN’s World Health Organisation.
“Fifteen critical patients, 50 caregivers and 20 health workers were transferred the nearby Indonesian Hospital, the World Health Organization (WHO) said.
The WHO said it was “appalled by yesterday’s raid” on the hospital, which it said now meant the area’s last major health facility was out of service.”
The fact that the WHO is apparently not “appalled” by Hamas’ well documented exploitation of hospitals for military purposes is perhaps best viewed in the context of its past collaboration with that terrorist organisation’s ministry of health, including promotion of its propaganda since the outset of the war.
Like the WHO, the BBC displays no interest in the topic of the take-over of medical facilities by terrorists and the consequences for the healthcare system in the Gaza Strip. Instead, the BBC’s idea of ‘accurate and impartial’ coverage is to base an entire report primarily on allegations made by functionaries of the same terrorist organisation which abuses medical facilities, including this particular hospital, in order to advance its military aims.

Undercover forces nab senior terrorist in Nablus raid
Israel Border Police and IDF fighters, guided by Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet) intelligence, arrested a senior terrorist suspect overnight Wednesday at a café in the Kasbah/Old City of Nablus (Shechem) in Samaria.Economic strains force PA to cut 'pay-for-slay' payment to terrorists, study finds
The undercover team entered the establishment undetected, surprising and arresting the suspect on site, the Israel Police said on Thursday morning.
During the withdrawal, rioters attacked the forces using gunfire, explosive devices, Molotov cocktails, and stones. The troops responded with live fire, neutralizing several assailants.
The arrested suspect was handed over to the Shin Bet for questioning.
Home of terrorist behind Beit Lid attack
IDF, Shin Bet and Border Police forces carried out an operation overnight Wednesday in the village of Bal’a, located near Tulkarem in Samaria and in the Menashe Brigade area of responsibility, and demolished the home of terrorist Muhammad Abu Yassin.
Abu Yassin was part of the terrorist cell responsible for the Nov. 2, 2023, attack at the Beit Lid Junction, which resulted in the death of Staff Sgt. (res.) Elhanan Ariel Klein and the injury of four Border Police officers.
The scope of the PA’s pay-for-slay payments to terrorists has decreased by 30-40% in 2024, despite expectations of increased payments following the October 7 massacre, according to a study.PA suspends ‘Al Jazeera’s broadcasts in Judea and Samaria
“Surprisingly, we’re seeing a trend opposite to what we expected,” explained Lt.-Col. (res.) Adv. Maurice Hirsch, a senior researcher at the Jerusalem Center for Security and Foreign Affairs.
“While we should have seen a sharp increase in payments following the PA’s policy and the high number of arrests and casualties among terrorists, in practice we’re witnessing a significant decline.”
Three main factors have been identified as responsible for the surprising decrease in terrorist funding.
“First, the decision to prevent Red Cross representatives from visiting prisons created significant bureaucratic difficulties,” said Hirsch. “Second, the economic pressure on the Palestinian Authority reached an unprecedented peak: new data from the Finance Ministry shows that Israel deducted about NIS 3 billion from PA funds through November 2024.”
The senior researcher emphasized that the third factor can be attributed to the disruptions in Gaza.
“The ongoing fighting in the Strip has caused significant difficulties in transferring payments and producing required documents. Terrorists’ families are struggling to submit necessary forms and even receive the funds themselves.”
The Palestinian Authority announced further restrictions against Al Jazeera on Wednesday evening, suspending the Qatari state-owned network’s broadcasts throughout Judea and Samaria and banning its journalists from operating in all areas under the control of the P.A.
Ramallah decided to block Al Jazeera and “suspend the work [permits] of all journalists, employees, crews and channels affiliated with it,” Wafa, the Palestinian Authority’s official news outlet, announced.
This move came after Al Jazeera aired “incitement and false reports that stir internal unrest and interfere in internal Palestinian affairs,” it added.
The Qatari station condemned the move, writing in a statement on Thursday morning that it considers the ban on its TV broadcasts “nothing but an attempt to dissuade the channel from covering the rapidly escalating events taking place in the occupied territories.
“The decision to freeze Al Jazeera‘s work and prevent its journalists from conducting their duties is an attempt to hide the truth about events in the occupied territories,” the Al Jazeera statement added, urging the Palestinian Authority to “immediately retract and cancel the decision.”
Last month, the P.A.’s ruling party banned Al Jazeera from operating in northern Samaria over its glorification of Iranian-backed terror groups.
Fatah said it banned the channel from broadcasting from Samaria’s Jenin Governorate, where the majority of the territory is controlled by the P.A., while urging Palestinians to boycott the Qatari network.
Ramallah accused Al Jazeera of playing a “dangerous role” through its coverage of the ongoing clashes between P.A. forces and Iranian-backed terrorists in the city of Jenin. In a statement quoted by local media, Fatah blamed Al Jazeera for “discord” among Palestinians.

Seth Frantzman: The US-backed ‘Syrian Free Army’ in Syria is at a crossroads
The Syrian Free Army, a group of Syrians who were trained and backed by the US in Syria, is seeking to find a role as the country undergoes rapid changes.
The SFA was based in Tanf, a small base near the Jordanian border in southern Syria. This base is also a US garrison, and the American troops have been training the Syrians.
The SFA said on January 2 that “Syrian Free Army soldiers bring food to children in Rukban, feeding not just their bodies but the spirit of Syria’s future. Hope is stronger than ever.”
Rukban is a large camp for displaced persons near Tanf. The Combined Special Ops Joint Task Force-Levant, which is the US-led coalition’s special operations group in the region, has been posting more about the SFA in recent weeks. The special operations group is part of the wider anti-ISIS coalition, and they are closely involved in work with groups that fight ISIS, including the SFA.
“We are proud to support our partners in the Syrian Free Army as they provide food to the children of Rukban. Our partners continuously strengthen hope to help build a brighter future for Syria,” the special operations force said in a post on social media.
The US’s role at Tanf is not the only mission it has in Syria in terms of support and training. The training and support program for the SFA is part of the much larger anti-ISIS mission. That mission backs the Syrian Democratic Forces in eastern Syria.
Whereas the SFA is a relatively small force, the SDF has tens of thousands of soldiers under arms.
The SFA spent many years corralled near Tanf. The American garrison had a zone of influence around it where the US and the group it was training kept Syrian regime forces at a distance of some 55 km.
Over the years, Iranian-backed militias tried to attack Tanf sometimes. An Iraqi militia called Kataib Hezbollah also attacked a base in Jordan called Tower 22, killing three Americans in January 2024.
Therefore, the Tanf garrison and the SFA were sometimes under threat. However, this mission was largely under the radar over the years.

Have Syria’s new rulers really left jihadism behind?
The importance of genuine reform in Syria cannot be overstated. The country has been ravaged by more than a decade of war, leaving it fragmented and vulnerable to external influence. The Assad regime, with its brutal governance and alliance with Iran and Hezbollah, has left a legacy of destruction and repression. For Syria to truly move forward, it must break free from this stranglehold.
However, replacing one form of extremism with another is not a solution. A rebranded HTS that continues to harbour extremist ideologies could pose an even greater challenge, as its leadership would have the veneer of legitimacy while remaining unyielding in its core beliefs. Without meaningful change, Syria risks becoming a failed state under the guise of a reformed one, perpetuating cycles of violence and instability.
The potential for a brighter future exists but it requires more than empty promises. Imagine a Syria that is free from Assad’s tyranny, devoid of Iranian influence, and unburdened by Hezbollah’s reach. Such a Syria could emerge as a regional partner for peace, even joining the Abraham Accords and establishing diplomatic relations with Israel. This vision, though ambitious, is not unattainable. Yet it hinges on one critical factor: the willingness of Syria’s leadership to embrace genuine ideological reform.
For Syria’s new leadership to prove its sincerity, actions must speak louder than words. Superficial gestures will not suffice in convincing the world of their transformation. HTS leaders must take bold, visible steps to confront and reject extremist ideologies. This means issuing unequivocal public declarations denouncing their past and making systemic changes that reflect a commitment to inclusivity and peace.
Moreover, these efforts must be backed by tangible actions on the ground. This could include fostering pluralism within Syrian society, protecting minority rights and establishing governance structures that prioritise the well-being of all citizens. International observers and potential allies will be watching closely for signs of genuine reform, and symbolic gestures alone will not earn their trust.
Despite the challenges, there are grounds for cautious optimism. The notion of a better Syria is not merely a dream; it is a possibility that can be realised through concerted effort and genuine reform. If the new leadership is serious about building a brighter future, they must rise to the occasion and prove their sincerity through deeds, not just rhetoric.
Syria’s future hangs in the balance. The choices made by its leaders in the coming years will determine whether the country emerges as a beacon of hope or remains mired in the shadows of its past. For al-Sharaa, the time has come to choose: Will they embrace the courage needed to change, or will they remain trapped in a cycle of superficial transformation?

The Current and Future Houthi Threat to the Middle East (pdf)
The Houthis have (with strong Iranian backing and encouragement) exploited the enfeeblement of the Yemeni government since the Arab Spring of 2011, expanding through military conquests and seizing the capital, Sanaa, from the internationally recognized government in a September 2014 military coup. How the Biden Admin Allowed Iran To Rake in Illicit Oil Cash Amid Tehran's Terror Spree
Since then, the Houthis have overrun Yemen's Red Sea ports, and tried to seize the port city of Aden and the energy hub of Marib. With sustained military support from Iran, they remain postured to lunge forward at any time to snuff out the last strongholds of the internationally recognized government of Yemen.
The Houthis are a clan-based military junta whose leaders have modeled their movement on Lebanese Hizbullah. Their ideology is supremacist, in favor of their own genealogical caste over all other Yemenis. In their motto, they curse all Jewish people and openly pledge to seek the destruction of Israel and the U.S.
The Houthis draw military, intelligence, and financial support from Iran, Hizbullah, Iran-backed militias in Iraq, the al-Qaeda and al-Shabab terrorist organizations, and reportedly also the Russian Federation. Inside Yemen they have committed gross human rights abuses: indoctrinating child soldiers, unlawfully detaining and torturing opponents, and diverting vital humanitarian assistance.
Between 2015 and 2021, the Houthis fired more than 430 missiles and more than 850 drones against Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. There have been 106 confirmed Houthi strikes on shipping in the Red Sea and Indian Ocean since November 2023. These unprovoked attacks robbed Egypt of more than $7 billion in Suez Canal fees.
Earlier this year, officials from across the Biden-Harris administration reviewed intelligence detailing Iraq's central role in a billion-dollar Iranian oil smuggling scheme. But they largely ignored that intelligence, according to those briefed on the matter, giving Tehran what one former U.S. official described as a "free pass" to evade American sanctions and rake in illicit cash.Khamenei meets wounded Hezbollah terrorists in Tehran
Officials from the State Department, Treasury Department, and intelligence community received the 45-page intelligence report in April and sat for multiple briefs on its material. Assembled by a number of international intelligence agencies and reviewed by the Washington Free Beacon, the report identified Iraq, the world's fifth-largest oil producer, as central to an Iranian "oil and fuel smuggling" operation that significantly expanded in 2022.
Iran generates roughly $1 billion from the smuggling scheme annually, Reuters reported, money that is "directly funding the Iranian threat network," according to the intelligence report. The briefing on that report came just months after Iran-backed terror group Hamas's Oct. 7 attack on Israel, sparking a war that later spread to Lebanon, where fellow Iranian terror proxy Hezbollah launches near-daily missile barrages at the Jewish state.
But the Biden-Harris administration apparently did little to act on the intelligence. The Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), which administers and enforces trade sanctions, responded to the report by drawing up sanctions packages targeting Iraq—but never actually put them in place, according to a former U.S. official briefed on the matter.
The administration's intimate knowledge of the smuggling operation has not been reported. It reflects a lax approach to Iran that has allowed the Islamic regime to rake in around $200 billion in illicit funds after Trump-era sanctions nearly bankrupted Tehran. And while Israel's war on Hamas and Hezbollah has crippled Iran's terror proxies, Tehran's financial resurgence could spark an early diplomatic confrontation when President-elect Donald Trump returns to the White House later this month.
"The reality here is that this was a very inconvenient truth for the U.S. government," Michael Knights, a Middle East security analyst with the Washington Institute for Near East Policy think tank, told the Free Beacon.
"It's clear when the U.S. government received detailed information on the commingling and Iranian militia oil smuggling that they already knew" of the scheme and Iran's profits from it, Knights added.
Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei on Wednesday marked the fifth anniversary of the assassination of Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Quds Force commander Lt. Gen. Qassem Soleimani by meeting with Hezbollah terrorists wounded in Israel’s Sept. 17-18 pager attacks.'War in Court': Dutch project reveals names of 425k. WWII Nazi collaborators
According to Tehran’s official IRNA agency, the visiting delegation also included relatives of Hezbollah “martyrs” killed fighting the Jewish state.
Pictures of the event showed some of the Hezbollah terrorists wearing sunglasses. Israel’s attacks on Hezbollah’s pagers and radios put at least 1,500 terrorists out of commission, with many blinded or losing hands.
“Martyr Soleimani’s constant strategy was to revive the resistance front,” Khamenei was quoted as saying, referring to Hezbollah, Hamas, Palestinian Islamic Jihad, the Houthis and other Iranian-backed terrorist organizations.
Soleimani, widely considered the architect of the Iran’s global sponsorship of terror, was killed in a U.S. drone strike on Jan. 3, 2020, near Baghdad International Airport.
The Israel Defense Forces has devastated Hezbollah, Iran’s terrorist army in Lebanon, in several operations, including the Sept. 17-18 pager attacks, after the group began cross-border attacks on Israel a day after Hamas’s Oct. 7, 2023, near Gaza.
On Sept. 27, Israel dropped at least a dozen 2,000-pound bunker-buster bombs on a Hezbollah headquarters in Beirut, killing the organization’s leader Hassan Nasrallah.
“Know that those who are running wild today will one day be trampled under the feet of believers,” Khamenei warned on Wednesday, adding that U.S. army bases in Syria would soon be “trampled,” IRNA reported.
“If a nation removes its pillars of stability and strength from the field, it risks becoming like Syria—vulnerable to occupation by the United States, Israel and some regional states,” according to Khamenei.
The Islamic Republic’s supreme leader described Lebanon and Yemen as symbols of resistance, promising that its proxies in these countries would emerge victorious over the militaries of the U.S. and Israel.
A Dutch project called 'War in Court' digitally released a list of names of nearly half a million suspected wartime Nazi collaborators on Thursday after the expiry of a law that had restricted public access to the archive.Vandal arrested after defacing Hanukkah display, Bandera march held in Lviv
The archive, consisting of 32 million pages, includes about 425,000 mostly Dutch people who were investigated for collaboration with German occupiers during World War Two. The law restricting public access expired on New Year's Day.
Only a fifth of those listed ever appeared before a court, and most cases concerned lesser offenses such as being a member of the Nationalist Socialist movement.
Although the European Union's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) protects personal data, it does not apply to those who have died — the vast majority of those listed in the archive.
Initially, scanned files from the archive were set to be made available online on Thursday, giving users access to dossiers of suspects, which also includes their victims and witnesses.
Full release postponed
However, following a warning from the Dutch Data Protection Authority, the decision was made last month to postpone the full release and instead publish only the list of names.
No date has been set for publication of those dossiers but people with a research interest - including descendants, journalists and historians - can make a request to consult them at the Dutch National Archives in The Hague.
A vandal who defaced a Hanukkah display on Wednesday was arrested by Ukrainian law enforcement, the Lviv National Police announced on Thursday morning.
The intoxicated 19-year-old resident had severed the traditional Hanukkah candelabra’s power cable and then fled. The suspect faces thousands in fines, hundreds of hours of community service, years of probationary supervision, or even prison terms for violation of a law against damage to religious buildings and places of worship.
Police said on Wednesday that it opened an investigation after a video of the incident spread on social media. Law enforcement is still reviewing the involvement of those who filmed the crime.
Sharing a photograph of the Lviv Hanukkiah on social media, ambassador to Ukraine Michael Brodsky thanked Ukrainian law enforcement for their quick and decisive action against lawbreakers but expressed concern about recent incidents.
The Israeli embassy in Ukraine “expresses concern about antisemitic incidents during Hanukkah in Ukraine, and about manifestations of antisemitism on social networks,” Brodsky said Thursday morning.
Bandera celebration
The same day as the Hanukkah vandalism, Lviv was also host to the celebration of the birthday of Nazi collaborator Stepan Bandera, according to the Lviv regional council. Local leaders laid flowers, held a moment of silence for those lost in the ongoing war with Russia, and featured a choir performance at a statue of Bandera. Participants waved the flags of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists.
“Stepan Bandera is a symbol of the Ukrainian struggle, which is mortally afraid of the enemy,” said Lviv Regional Council acting chairman Yuri Kholod. “The Moscow invasion remembers Bandera’s people when it sees the Ukrainian and red-black flags and understands that it will fall on the battlefield.”
Kholod called on foreign politicians to cease shaming the Ukrainian struggle, its history, and heroes like Bandera.During World War II, Bandera led the Ukrainian Insurgent Army, which killed thousands of Jews and Poles.

Jewish Olympic legend Ágnes Keleti dies at 103
Ágnes Keleti, a Holocaust survivor who became the world’s oldest living Olympic champion and later shaped Israel’s gymnastics program, died Thursday in Budapest at age 103.
The legendary Jewish athlete, who captured 10 Olympic medals—the most by any Jew except swimmer Marc Spitz—including five golds for Hungary, was hospitalized with pneumonia on Dec. 25. Her journey from Nazi persecution to Olympic glory made her one of the most inspiring Jewish sports figures of the 20th century.
“These 100 years felt to me like 60,” Keleti told AP before her 100th birthday. “I live well. And I love life. It’s great that I’m still healthy.”
Born as Ágnes Klein in Budapest in 1921, she faced devastating persecution during World War II. The Nazi-allied Hungarian regime forced her off the national gymnastics team in 1941 because she was Jewish. She survived the Holocaust by purchasing and using an identity paper of a Christian girl and working as a maid in the Hungarian countryside.
While her mother and sister survived through the protection of Swedish diplomat Raoul Wallenberg, her father and other family members perished at Auschwitz, among more than half a million Hungarian Jews murdered in German death camps and by Hungarian Nazi collaborators.
After the war, Keleti rebuilt her gymnastics career. Though an ankle injury prevented her from competing in the 1948 London Olympics, she triumphed at the 1952 Helsinki Games at age 31, securing gold in floor exercise along with silver and two bronze medals. Her greatest achievement came at the 1956 Melbourne Olympics, where at 35—the oldest gymnastics gold medalist in history—she dominated the competition with four golds and two silvers.
While Keleti reached the pinnacle of Olympic success in Melbourne, the Soviet Union invaded Hungary following an unsuccessful anti-Soviet uprising. She sought asylum in Australia before immigrating to Israel in 1957, where she dedicated decades to training Israel’s Olympic gymnastics team through the 1990s.
I was saddened to learn of the death of Hungarian-born Ágnes Kelet, aged 103 - a Holocaust survivor and the world’s oldest Olympic gold medalist.
