Old antisemitic lies don't die. They live forever, no matter how many times they are debunked.

Jordan's Al Ghad has an op-ed by Youssef Abdullah Mahmoud that quotes a variant of a Nazi-era libel claiming that "president" Benjamin Franklin gave a speech to the American people warning them about the dangers of Jews.

There is a great danger for the United States of America. This great danger is the Jew. Gentlemen, in every land the Jews have settled, they have depressed the moral level and lowered the degree of commercial honesty. They have remained apart and unassimilated; oppressed, they attempt to strangle the nation financially, as in the case of Portugal and Spain.

If they are not expelled from the United States by the Constitution, they will stream into this country in such numbers that they will rule and destroy us and change our form of Government for which we Americans shed our blood and sacrificed our life, property and personal freedom. If the Jews are not excluded within two hundred years, our children will be working in the field to feed Jews while they remain in the counting houses, gleefully rubbing their hands.

I warn you, gentlemen, if you do not exclude the Jews forever, your children and your children’s children will curse you in their graves. Their ideas are not those of Americans, even when they lived among us for ten generations. The leopard cannot change his spots. The Jews are a danger to this land, and if they are allowed to enter, they will imperil our institutions. They should be excluded by the Constitution.

This lie was first published in 1934 by an American fascist publication and quickly reproduced in Nazi Germany. Here's a Nazi poster with the lie, complete with a picture of someone who is definitely not Franklin.

The supposed speech was debunked fairly quickly - there is no record of any such speech, it uses language that was not used in the 18th century, and Franklin was a philosemite.

But that hasn't stopped this supposed "Franklin prophecy" from being resurrected every couple of years in Arab media. Usually, the articles claim Franklin was the President.

Mahmoud expands on the forgery, claiming that "Zionists" stopped early Americans from implementing Franklin's plan of ethnic cleansing Jews from the United States.

Why recycle old, provable lies? Because most people don't know they are lies, and it is easier to re-use old ones than to make up new ones.

Interestingly, as I was writing this, I found articles that give a strong indication that a 19th century Mussar work, Sefer Cheshbon ha-Nefesh based its self-improvement program on Benjamin Franklin's own program described in his autobiography. The author, Menachem Mendel Lefin, didn't credit Franklin but he didn't claim to have created the method either, and other writings of his show he was familiar with Franklin's writings. So in a way, Benjamin Franklin has influenced modern Jewish thought.

As the Mufti forbade selling land to Jews, Transjordanian sheikhs WANTED Jews to buy their land

In the early 1930s, the antisemitic Mufti of Jerusalem convened a series of meetings where Arab sheikhs pledged not to sell their land to Jews - a policy that continues today with the Palestinian Authority.

But as this was happening, landowners in Transjordan compared their poverty with the prosperity in neighboring Palestine, and concluded that Jewish investments was what Transjordan needed.

JTA reported on January 18, 1933:

The Hebrew paper “Davar” discloses today that Transjordanian tribe heads have for some time been approaching the Jewish Agency with offers for the sale of land. The miserable situation of Transjordania as compared with the prosperity in Palestine convinces them that the salvation of Transjordania can come only through the Jews, the tribe leaders are reported to have said. These same leaders have urged Emir Abdullah to encourage the Jews to settle in Transjordan, the paper writes.

From JTA, February 6, 1933:

Permission to sell Transjordan land to foreigners is requested in a petition signed by twenty-one of the most influential Transjordan tribal leaders and members of the Legislative Assembly, which has been submitted to the Palestine Government and Emir Abdullah.

The petition emphasizes that the precarious condition of the country calls for such action.

The petition, which was drawn up following a meeting of Arab chieftains, in Amman, adds a new chapter to the Transjordan matter which was apparently closed on January 25th when Emir Abdullah announced the cancellation of an option he had granted to a Jewish company for the lease of 70,000 dunams of his personal domain in Transjordan.

The Arab chieftains at their meeting in Amman discussed Emir Abdullah’s communique announcing the cancellation of the lease to Jews. The majority of those present, however, found that the sale of land to Jews is the only solution for the present acute situation.

Seventy percent of the cattle owned by the Arabs in Transjordan have perished from starvation, it was stated.

Transjordan and Palestine had similar climates, similar resources, and the Arabs were from similar tribes. The only reason Palestine was thriving and Transjordan was failing was because of Jewish energy and investments. This was obvious to everyone at the time, including Arabs.

Algerian newspaper praises 1934 Constantine pogrom that killed dozens of Jews as "battle of glory"

Wikipedia describes the 1934 Constantine pogrom:

The 1934 Constantine riots was an anti-Jewish riot that erupted in the Algerian city of Constantine.
The general consensus is that the initial cause of the conflict was a confrontation between Eliahou Khalifa, a Jewish Zouave, and Muslim worshippers in a mosque next to his home. The Muslims said that Khalifa was drunk, and insulted Islam. A report by the Jewish authorities claimed he was not intoxicated, and that after getting into an argument with them, the Muslims had cursed Khalifa's faith and he cursed them and their faith back.
JTA reported on August 8, 1934:
A scene of utter desolation and horror, of Jewish girls with their breasts cut off, of little children with numerous knife wounds and of whole families locked in their homes and burned to death, was described by a Jewish Telegraphic Agency correspondent, who succeeded in reaching this city today.
"It will take days before the world will obtain a true picture of all the atrocities committed by the Arabs during the pogrom on the Jewish quarter," the correspondent wired.
"The only comparison I can think of is the Palestine riots of 1929. I found Jewish girls with their breasts cut off, greybearded Jews stabbed to death, little Jewish children dead of numerous knife wounds and whole families locked in their homes and burned to death by the rioters."
"Just as in Palestine in 1929, the lists of the dead and injured run into the hundreds with no official estimates available. The hospitals are filled with Jewish victims and the doors of the hospitals are besieged with half-crazed wives and mothers seeking to ascertain whether their loved ones are among the dead or injured, or whether they succeeded in escaping the pogrom bands".

I've seen estimates of Jews killed from 24 to over 100.

Algerian newspaper Echorouk Online gives a completely different description of the events in an article this week about the "butcher's neighborhood" of Constantine:

The young butcher Ben Amira, telling us about the splendor of the place and its historical charm, spoke about his grandfather who was the first to defend the worshipers in the Constantine catastrophe that occurred in 1934, when a Jew from the Rahbat Al-Souf neighborhood provoked the Muslims by urinating in the courtyard of the Green Mosque. His grandfather quickly responded, planting a dagger in the neck of this Jew, before the great battle between Jews and the Muslims of the city of Constantine broke out, in which knives and machetes of Algerian meat shops were used.

The spark of events ignited in the mosque, in which Ben Badis was giving his lessons, and it is the Green Mosque in Constantine, located in the neighborhood of butchers, in which Jews and Arabs share the profession of butcher, when a drunk Jew broke into it on a Friday night during the evening prayer, and started cursing the worshipers and claiming that he saw their nakedness, He described them as villains, and it was said, according to what was narrated by Al-Shorouk daily, Sayyid bin Omairah on the authority of his grandfather, that this Jew urinated in the courtyard of the mosque, so they tried to restrain him, but the drunken state of this Jew called Eliyahu Khleifi gave him the freedom to release what was in his heart of hatred, and he began to curse the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace And blessings.
Despite the lawsuit filed by the worshipers with the police services, the Jew refused to comply with the summons, and continued to provoke everyone, accompanied by his wife, in the Rahbat Al-Soof neighborhood and stir up sedition in the Butchers neighborhood, where no sound is louder than the sound of knives, so people gathered at night and some began calling to attack the house of this Jew And they burned it, so the policemen resorted to guarding the Jew's house, so that the rest of the Jews joined the verbal battle and turned it into action, by throwing stones at the Muslims.
