On Friday, reporters asked New York City mayor Zohran Mamdani about his cancellation of an executive order for the city to use the IHRA Working Definition of Antisemitism. His reply was, “A number...of leading Jewish organizations have immense concerns around this definition."
Really? Who?
Jewish Voice for Peace is a 'leading Jewish organization"? Bend the Arc/Jewish Action? They are pretty much it as far as who opposes using the IHRA definition.
A
letter against his policy was signed by the UJA-Federation of New York, JCRC-NY, ADL New York/New Jersey, American Jewish Committee New York, New York Board of Rabbis, Agudath Israel of America and Orthodox Union. Those are leading organizations by any definition.
JVP and Bend the Arc are "As-A-Jew" organizations, that have no interest in Judaism except to use it as a prop to oppose Israel.
But they serve another purpose, too. When Israel-hating politicians want to pretend that they have Jews on their side, they can cynically use them for cover.
They are "As-a-Jewish Organization"s.
