From Ian:

Brendan O'Neill: Accusing Israel of genocide is despicable doublethink
Gary Lineker is taking the piss now, isn’t he? He’s had his knuckles rapped by the BBC numerous times for sharing his centrist-dad blather online. For using the public platform gifted to him by us licence-fee payers – on pain of criminal conviction – to advertise his milquetoast views that most people think are bollocks. And yet now, in studied defiance of his bosses, he’s given voice to his most ignorant political opinion yet. To a dinner-party prejudice that isn’t only irritating but will feel genuinely hurtful to many who are forced by law to make Lineker rich. He’s tweeted a link to a video in which Israel is accused of committing genocide against the Palestinians.

Yes, as if Israel hadn’t suffered enough at the murderous hands of Hamas, now it must endure the indignity of a football pundit wondering out loud if it might be guilty of the worst war crime of all. What next, Wayne Rooney sitting in judgement on the Democratic Republic of Congo? ‘Worth 13 minutes of anyone’s time’, said the Match of the Day presenter turned amateur Hague sleuth in his retweet of a conversation between the Guardian’s Owen Jones and Raz Segal, an associate professor of genocide studies at Stockton University in New Jersey. In that chat, Segal says that what Israel is doing in Gaza is a ‘textbook genocide’. Textbook. That is, it conforms precisely to the definition of genocide, which is the murder of a large number of people from an ethnic group with the aim of destroying that ethnic group. This is what Lineker is sharing to his 8.9million followers on X. The lie that the Jewish State has a bloodlust to vaporise all Palestinians.

This is serious, no? Mr Lineker is a representative of Britain’s public broadcaster, the BBC. He is the face of BBC Sport. Did he not stop to think how the Jewish section of the public might feel about his sharing of a clip damning Israel as genocidal? Did it not cross his mind that our Jewish citizens who are compelled to pay his wages might now feel a lesser part of ‘the public’ that the Beeb is meant to embody? The vast majority of British Jews support Israel (if not the Netanyahu government). They consider it ‘the ancestral homeland of the Jewish people’. Call me a contrarian, but I think people paid by the public to provide a service to the public ought not to alienate any section of that public by sharing inflammatory ideological claims.

We can now see how stunningly lacking in virtue the virtue-signallers are. When Hamas fascists launched their pogrom against Israel on 7 October, Lineker said nothing. On the day itself, this bloke who loves to wring his hands over bad things said nowt about the worst massacre of Jews since the Holocaust. He did find time to congratulate Spurs for getting to the top of the league, though. The next day, too, not a whisper. Finally, on 9 October, he said something. Kind of. He tweeted a link to a new episode of The Rest is Politics in which his mates, Alastair Campbell and Rory Stewart, talked about the Israel-Hamas conflict. Given his keen interest in events that apparently echo the 1930s – he famously accused then home secretary Suella Braverman of using ‘language that is not dissimilar to that used by Germany in the 30s’ – it was striking he had so little to say about an atrocity that really did echo the 1930s.
Stephen Pollard: I thought we had reached peak Gary Lineker. I was wrong Bad Medicine
On Oct. 7, Hamas unleashed a barbaric terrorist attack against Israel, killing more than 1,200 people, including more than 30 Americans. The event was unprecedented in its scale and cruelty in a country that is no stranger to terrorism. Still, it was not met with universal condemnation. Rather, a nontrivial number of Americans either justified or even celebrated the attacks. Such responses were especially prevalent within the elite universities that popular imagination historically upholds as a bulwark against religious and ethnic bigotry, and mostly occurred with impunity.

Medicine has eagerly adopted the same type of identity politics that have come to define the policies, sensibilities, and ideologies of Ivy League universities, where diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) officials have essentially served as a political commissariat, articulating and enforcing identity politics orthodoxy. Indeed, medical training and practice is fertile ground for antisemitism to flourish. Looking at explicit acts of antisemitism from health care providers in the wake of the Oct. 7 attack, we observe that doctors are among those who have engaged in some of the most egregious displays of antisemitism, and that they are not regularly punished for their conduct. Second, we examined the responses of professional medical associations and medical schools to Hamas’ attack against Israel compared to their response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Leading medical institutions treat the world’s only Jewish state differently from other U.S. allies even though Americans overall have warmer feelings toward Israel than Ukraine.

If we want to understand why medical professionals are drawn to acts of antisemitism despite their advanced levels of education, we need to look at what their medical associations and schools are teaching them. Those institutions not only advance an ideology that facilitates Jew hatred, they demonstrate by the example of their public statements that they hold Jews and the Jewish state to a different standard.

Assuredly, the great majority of medical practitioners have made no public statements or made benign remarks that did not warrant news coverage. Still, Stop Antisemitism, an organization that calls attention to public displays of antisemitism, has recorded many medical practitioners whose speech or conduct related to recent events clearly demonstrate untrammeled Jew hatred. The fact that some of those health professionals were subsequently disciplined by their employers is reassuring. But the fact that so many would feel the urge and freedom to engage in overt Jew hatred despite their advanced professional training is alarming.

David Collier: Verifying BBC (Hamas) propaganda – presenting exhibit A
This article published yesterday is a perfect example of how the BBC goes out of its way to demonise Israel – and the means through which it does so. If ever BBC executives are forced to stand before a panel at an inquiry – this should be one of the articles they need to explain.

It seems so benign. A human interest story about Gazan footballers who have been trapped by the conflict and could not play in the Palestine v Australia World Cup qualifier that took place yesterday (Australia won 1-0):

The BBC is not a local town newspaper. When looking at an article such as this – we need to analyse the motivation behind it warranting exposure to the BBC’s massive audience. Did the BBC put a team on this because it was such an important story that it needed to be reported – or is another dynamic at work; are they scrambling around for stories that demonise Israel – and this article got the green light only because it could potentially tick so many anti-Israel boxes?

Time to have a closer look.

Test 1 – is the pillar of the story true

We have no way of fully verifying the story. And importantly – nor did the BBC. But we can look at the evidence available:

Three Gazan footballers were named.
Ibrahim Abuimeir(FB)
Ahmed Kullab (FB)
Khaled Al-Nabris (FB)

The BBC tells us that these three footballers ‘should have been training for the World Cup Qualifiers’ and we are then told that Ibrahim is described by his trainers ‘as one of the star defenders of the Palestinian team’,

Well that is a fact we can check. This is the number of times those three players have played for the Palestine National Team: Ibrahim Abuimeir = zero (u23 appearances)
Ahmed Kullab = zero (u23 appearances)
Khaled Al-Nabris = zero (u23 appearances)

None of them have ever played for the national team at senior level before. It is true they have performed at the U-23 level – and are part of the set-up for next year’s olympics – but that is not the same thing. There is no evidence AT ALL – these players were all going to be called up for the world cup qualifiers. In fact – evidence was found to suggest they would NOT BE as Abuimeir only recently turned professional and remains part of the 2024 Olympic u23 plans.

There is more. The Palestinian team doesn’t play many youngsters. In the current squad only one player is under the age of 23 (naturally a forward). The squad has NO DEFENDERS under the age of 24 (also quite normal for anyone who understands football). Two of the trapped Gazan players are defenders. Abuimeir (just turned 21) and Kullab (Just turned 22).

The BBC argument is that these three extremely young players – all coincidentally trapped in Gaza – none of whom have ever played for the national team before – were due to be in the World Cup squad. This story is nonsense.

We can say certainly that the description of Abuimeir in the headline as one of Palestine’s star defenders is *blatantly untrue*.

One other point of note. The BBC also relies on the words of Ehab Abu Jazar – a coach of the Palestinian team. This is what Abu Jazar posted on the morning of the 7th October. In this post he suggests that if someone does not see the events of Oct 7 as a great thing- then they are not really Palestinian. Perhaps FIFA need to look closely at him:

Col. Richard Kemp: Too Many Want to Believe Hamas' Hospital Lies
Hamas uses hospitals and other protected places like schools and mosques for terrorist purposes. Since 2006, we have seen report after report showing just that. An American Public Broadcasting Service documentary showed Hamas gunmen prowling the corridors of Al-Shifa Hospital, intimidating staff and denying access to protected areas. Yet since Israel launched its ground invasion of Gaza, this has suddenly come into question. Many people don't want to believe the Israelis; it seems they would rather believe Hamas. Media outlets often caveat announcements by the IDF, pointedly saying that what they claim cannot be independently verified. Rarely, however, are reports from Gaza questioned in such a way. Many who call for a ceasefire may be well meaning, but in practice they are saying Israel should stop defending its population and Hamas should live to fight another day. Political leaders are playing into Hamas' hands by virtue-signaling implications that Israel is not adhering to the laws of war and is inflicting unnecessary civilian casualties when they know that this is not true.
IDF releases more evidence Hamas uses Shifa Hospital for terror
The Israel Defense Forces released extensive video evidence of Hamas’s terror tunnels under Gaza City’s Shifa Hospital on Wednesday, saying its latest findings “unequivocally prove the modus operandi of the terrorist organization Hamas, which systematically operates from hospitals.”

“The Hamas terrorist organization builds underground complexes under hospitals while exploiting the hospital infrastructure and conducts warfare from them,” according to a military statement.

Behind a breached blast door under Shifa Hospital, IDF troops discovered an air-conditioned hideout, complete with bathrooms. Soldiers also located two tunnel shafts near the hospital—one on the street and the other in a nearby house.

According to the IDF, the videos published on Nov. 22 are “further proof that the Hamas terrorist organization uses the residents of the Gaza Strip as a human shield, with an emphasis on patients and doctors.”

IDF Spokesperson Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari explained in one of the videos that the tunnels under Shifa “keep on going to different kind of bases, meaning commanders of Hamas go to the hospital, give directions to the forces, go out by these tunnels, proceed their terror acts against our soldiers, firing rockets on our civilians, and go back directly to the hospital as a human shield.”

In a second clip, Hagari tours a tunnel shaft in what appears to be a school building on a street “parallel to the Shifa Hospital.”

“Just imagine how people are building tunnels underneath a home— in a room that has a classroom,” said Hagari.

Israeli forces have operated in and around Shifa since Nov. 15, uncovering weapons and other terror infrastructure inside the hospital, as well as killing terrorists at the compound.

The IDF in recent weeks has provided evidence that Hamas uses Shifa and other hospitals in Gaza for its operational activities, which are conducted in a massive tunnel system underneath the complexes.

Why Israel Slept: The War in Gaza and the Search for Security
In a barbaric surprise attack launched by Hamas on Oct. 7, more Jews were slaughtered than on any day since the Holocaust. Around 1,200 people were killed that day (the equivalent of around 42,500 Americans, adjusting for population) and some 240 were kidnapped - including young children and elderly people. On that fateful day, the country's intelligence and military institutions were unable to keep citizens safe.

for years, the country's political and military establishment had allowed intolerable threats to gather, seeking to establish a modus vivendi with the de facto Hamas state in Gaza based on deterrence, aiming to extend periods of tranquility. Israel cannot return to the status quo that existed before Oct. 7.

One must push the country's defense institutions and security strategy back toward certain basic principles from which they have strayed in recent years. Israel's national security doctrine includes four main pillars: deterrence, early warning, defense, and decisive victory.

Because of Israel's overreliance on deterrence, and its tacit acceptance of a prolonged buildup of Hamas forces in Gaza (facilitated by Iranian funding and expertise), the group had achieved an unusually high level of operational readiness to carry out a major attack. It had also identified significant vulnerabilities in Israel's defenses around Gaza.

According to Israel's security doctrine, when deterrence fails, the intelligence community assumes the vital role of providing early warning, enabling the IDF to prepare and respond effectively to the threat. But a catastrophic misconception had taken hold within the Israeli intelligence community in recent years.

Hamas' fundamental aspiration is to inflict harm on Israel, with the ultimate aim of obliterating it. But Israeli intelligence and decision-makers had come to believe that Hamas' responsibilities in Gaza - where it essentially governed a de facto state of over two million Palestinians - had tempered its extremism.

When deterrence falters and early warnings fail to materialize, Israel's traditional security doctrine falls back on the IDF's defensive capabilities. But Israel failed to imagine an aboveground invasion and did not reinforce defenses around Gaza in proportion to Hamas' growing military capabilities. Consequently, Israeli forces in the area were outnumbered and caught off guard during the Sukkot holiday.

The fourth pillar of Israel's security doctrine is the concept of achieving a decisive military outcome. Israel now understands that although the jihadi ideology of Hamas may persist, the IDF must dismantle the organization's military capabilities. Israel has come to see that it cannot coexist with a jihadi Islamist state akin to ISIS at its doorstep in Gaza.

The era of intermittent cycles of fighting and ceasefires in Gaza is over. The ground operation will end only when Hamas ceases to function as a governing authority in Gaza and its military capabilities are significantly degraded. Targeted incursions into Gaza and airstrikes against Hamas will persist, and Israel will need to fortify a number of strategically significant areas near the border with Gaza to create a buffer zone to enhance border defense.
Jonathan Tobin: America shouldn’t let Hamas bargain its way to victory
Now that the hostage negotiations have resulted in one deal that will grant a reprieve for Hamas, Biden has a choice to make.

If he listens to his left-wing critics, Biden will use the effort to free the hostages as an excuse to turn off the spigot of arms resupply and thereby prevent Israel from resuming the war. That would effectively end a conflagration that is causing him grief and, if the polls are correct, may well be dooming his hopes for re-election next year. Biden can then use the freedom of the hostages to declare victory for his policies and resume his pre-Oct. 7 policies of appeasing Hamas’s sponsor: Iran. He can also begin pressuring Israel to accept a resumption of talks to achieve a two-state solution to the conflict even if this failed policy proposal after Oct. 7 showed Israelis what a Palestinian state would really mean. Both appeasement of Iran and pressure on Israel will be very popular among the left-wing Democrats Biden needs to keep in his fold.

While that might make the president’s life a little easier, it would also prevent Israel from achieving the destruction of Hamas, which is a prerequisite for the security of Israel’s citizens. Netanyahu can say “no” to American demands to wind up the fighting in Gaza. But given that the task he has assigned his military is one that will take months to complete, ignoring Washington in this instance is not as easy or cost-free as past spats he has had with Biden or former President Barack Obama.

This is the moment when the world will see just how serious Biden’s commitment is—both to Israel’s security and to eliminating Hamas. To its credit, the administration has acknowledged that it is a terrorist movement and death cult comparable to ISIS, whose genocidal goals are akin to those of the Nazis. But with so much of his base pushing for an end to the fighting, Biden may prefer to let it survive rather than to have to spend another few months defending a war to ensure that they never repeat their crimes.

That is why American Jews who have rallied around the cause of freeing hostages must be equally vocal about pushing back against the pressure for a permanent ceasefire with Hamas. Sympathy for those being held by the terrorists is important, as is the effort to free them. But if the hostage negotiations provide Hamas with a path to survival, then it will be more than a blow to the already shaky morale of Israelis. It will only mean more Oct. 7-style mass slaughters and more kidnappings of innocent victims. More than that, Hamas and its Iranian funders won’t be satisfied with targeting Israel; their ultimate goal is to do the same in Europe and the United States. If decent Americans—both Jewish and non-Jewish—don’t push for Biden to continue supporting a just war on Hamas, then we are dooming Israel as well as Americans to a future of endless Islamist terrorism.
Interrogations Break Open Hamas Strategy, Operations
The Israel Security Agency (ISA) has interrogated dozens of senior Hamas terrorists who participated in the Oct. 7 slaughter of Israelis.

The information obtained often involves higher-value targets, such as top Hamas commanders or critical Hamas terror infrastructure.

Some interrogations have led to fundamental changes in IDF attack plans, sometimes in real-time, after a deeper understanding of Hamas' defense plans.

A large number of ISA retirees have returned to service during the war to help shoulder the wide number of tasks required in wartime.
How Islamism destroyed the Palestinian movement

It's 'Dehumanizing' To Say Palestinians Support Hamas, the Media Said. Then This Poll Dropped.
After Hamas's Oct. 7 massacre of Israelis, leading U.S. news outlets pointed to a single poll from just before the attack as proof that most Gazans did not support the terrorist group. But none of those outlets mentioned a poll published last week that shows Gazans overwhelmingly approve of both Hamas and its slaughter and abduction of Israelis, including dozens of babies and children.

It’s the latest example of the media ignoring information that complicates its depiction of Palestinians as innocent victims of Israeli cruelty.

Then: Arab Barometer completed the first poll on Oct. 6. Leaders of the research group, which tracks public opinion across the Middle East, presented their findings in Foreign Affairs on Oct. 25 under the headline, "What Palestinians Really Think of Hamas." The answer: 67 percent of Gazans had "no trust" or "not a lot of trust" in their autocratic Islamist rulers, and a majority favored a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict over sharing one state or a federation with the Jews.

"The argument that the entire population of Gaza can be held responsible for Hamas’s actions is quickly discredited when one looks at the facts," wrote Arab Barometer's Amaney A. Jamal, who is also the dean of Princeton University's School of Public and International Affairs, and Michael Robbins. "As Israel’s operations in Gaza escalate, the war will take an unfathomable toll on civilians. But even if Israel were to 'level Gaza,' as some hawkish politicians in the United States have called for, it would fail in its mission to wipe out Hamas. Our research has shown that Israeli crackdowns in Gaza most often lead to increasing support and sympathy for Hamas among ordinary Gazans."

Soros-Funded Center for American Progress: Leave Hamas Alone

Israel declares Lashkar-e-Taiba as 'terror organisation' ahead of 15th anniversary of 26/11 attacks
Israel on Tuesday listed Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba as a 'Terror Organisation' ahead of the 15th year anniversary of the 26/11 terror attack on Mumbai that killed over 160 people, including a number of Israeli nations.

"To symbolise the marking of the 15th year of commemoration of the Mumbai terror attacks, the state of Israel has listed Lashkar-e-Taiba as a Terror Organisation," the Israel Embassy said in a statement in New Delhi.

"Despite not being requested by the Government of India to do so, the state of Israel has formally completed all necessary procedures and has satisfied all required checks and regulations to the result of introducing Lashkar-e-Taiba into the Israeli list of illegal terror organisations," the statement said.

Ten Pakistani terrorists entered the south Mumbai areas through a sea route, attacked a number of places, including a Chabad House, and a Jewish centre, and indiscriminately killed 166 people, including 18 security personnel, and a number of Israelis on November 26, 2008.

"Lashkar-e-Taiba is a deadly and reprehensible terror organization, responsible for the murder of hundreds of Indian civilians as well as others. Its heinous actions on November 26, 2008, still reverberate in force, through all peace-seeking nations and societies," the statement added.
EU Foreign Policy Chief Draws Equivalence Between Hamas and Israel, Accusing Both of ‘Massacres’
The EU’s foreign policy chief drew a moral equivalence between Israel and the Hamas terrorist organization on Wednesday, accusing both of having carried out “massacres” while insisting that it is possible to criticize Israeli actions “without being accused of not liking the Jews.”

In a speech to the European Parliament, Josep Borrell — the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy — described the Hamas pogrom in southern Israel on Oct. 7, in which more than 1,200 people were murdered, as the “biggest massacre” of Jews since World War II. However, he added, the blockade of the Gaza Strip by Israel amounted to “another kind of man-made massacre.”

Reflecting on a trip to the region last week, Borrell — a former Spanish foreign minister who has been at the helm of the EU’s foreign policy since Dec. 2019 — argued that emotions on both sides of the conflict were derailing a political solution.

“It ought to be possible to have a debate about what is going on there without emotion,” Borrell said. “It ought to be possible to recognize the right of Israel to defend itself, but simultaneously for us to be indignant about what is happening in Gaza to civilians. It ought to be possible to criticize the policies of Israel, because countries’ policies can be criticized, without being accused of not liking the Jews. Let’s not jumble things up.”

Borrell also addressed the international failure to deliver the much-vaunted two-state solution as a final resolution of a conflict that has raged for over a century.

“In the past 30 years, since the Oslo agreements, we have been repeating — two-state solution, the solution is two states,” he said. “But we’ve done very little or nothing to bring it about.”

Borrell then asserted that alleged Israeli reluctance to recognize Palestinian national rights was as much of a problem as Palestinian rejectionism.

“We thought that the problem could be compartmentalized, because one side was already peaceful and the other wasn’t,” he stated. “But this drama that has exploded has shown us that there needs to be peace not just between Palestine and Israel but also between Israel and Palestine.”

British Actors Union Under Fire After Releasing Anti-Israel Statement About Gaza War
Members of the entertainment industry have accused the British union for performing artists called Equity of releasing a biased and “offensive” statement that included “antisemitic dogwhistles” while condemning Israel’s military campaign against Hamas terrorists in the Gaza Strip.

In a statement published on Nov. 15, the union, which represents 47,000 performers and creative workers in the United Kingdom, accused Israel of “bombing, occupation, and apartheid,” and demanded the British government “stand up against genocide.” The union additionally called for an “immediate” ceasefire in Gaza and for the return of the roughly 240 hostages kidnapped by Hamas terrorists during the terror group’s onslaught across southern Israel on Oct. 7.

The union said artists are “frightened of censorship for expressing opinions on the conflict which are rooted in peace, justice, and dignity.” The statement added: “The actions of the Israeli state or Hamas cannot be used to stoke fires of hate, silence peaceful dissent, or divide communities anywhere in our country.”

More than a dozen people in the UK entertainment industry, including current and former members of Equity, told Variety that they are disappointed in the union’s comments. One Israeli member of Equity, who preferred to stay anonymous, told the magazine that the union’s “clear, one-sided statement and total dismissal of ‘my side’s’ pain and rights” has made them fear for their well-being. “I wouldn’t be surprised if people took liberty to act on [their] prejudices, thinking they have the organization’s blessing to discriminate,” the union member added.

There has been a global spike in antisemitism since Hamas’ Oct. 7 massacre, including in Europe, where several countries have experienced a record number of antisemitic incidents.

“This body [Equity] who purports to passionately espouse tenets of inclusivity and diversity, claiming to heal the world through artistic endeavor, made the very conscious decision to include unequivocal antisemitic dogwhistles in their statement,” said Leo Pearlman, co-founder of transatlantic production company Fulwell 73

Melbourne Holocaust Museum re-opens with event attended by PM and Dutton
The 39-year-old Melbourne Holocaust Museum has re-opened with an event attended by politicians and Holocaust survivors after three years of redevelopment with two new exhibitions sharing the stories of Australian Holocaust survivors.

Prime Minster Anthony Albanese, Opposition leader Peter Dutton and Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan were among those who attended the re-opening.

Former treasurer Josh Frydenberg was thanked by a number of speakers for his assistance in securing funding for the upgrades.

Melbourne Holocaust Museum Co-President Mike Debinski says he is “very proud” the museum has reopened with “bipartisan support” for the work it's doing given the rise in anti-Semitism.

“The first, which is very unique, is called Hidden and it traces the stories of seven children who were hidden, like Anne Frank, during the war, and ended up building lives in Australia,” he told Sky News Australia.

“The second is a permanent exhibition which tells the story of the Holocaust, but through Melbourne eyes – through people who came here, who survived.”

Words Matter with Kel Richards: The origin of the word ‘anti-Semitism’
Broadcaster and wordsmith Kel Richards discusses the origin of the word “anti-Semitism” with Sky News host Peta Credlin.

"Anti-Semitism is recorded in English from 1880 but a few years earlier it turned up in German, coined by a man named Wilhelm Marr, who was anti-Semitic himself and wrote anti-Semitic articles and pamphlets," he said.

"The word 'Semite' itself refers to any of the people in Genesis chapter 10, who are the descendants of one of the sons of Noah – a man named Shem, they are Semites.

"The anti put in front of it to mean antagonistic so anti-Semitism is antagonism to Jewish people, it's hatred and disparagement of Jewish people.

"It's been a word since 1880, but it's been around much longer than the word has been around."
