Amnesty International Sponsors Speaker Who Celebrated 9/11, Denied Holocaust, Bashed Gays and Jews
On December 12, Amnesty International is co-sponsoring an anti-Islamophobia rally in Brussels, Belgium. Combating bigotry against minorities—which is particularly prevalent in Europe against Muslims and Jews—is an honorable and pressing endeavor. Unfortunately, one of the keynote speakers at Amnesty’s event seems far more interested in stoking such hatred rather than fighting it.
Dyab Abou Jahjah is one of four individuals scheduled to speak at the rally. He has called the 9/11 attacks “sweet revenge,” said Europe made “the cult of the Holocaust and Jew-worshiping its alternative religion,” and labeled gays “AIDS-spreading faggots.” He has also questioned the existence of the Nazi gas chambers, and is a former fighter for the anti-Semitic group Hezbollah, an officially designated terrorist group by the U.S. and European Union. For his hateful activism, Abou Jahjah has been banned in the United Kingdom since 2009.
Viewed on its own, Amnesty’s sponsorship of Abou Jahjah would appear to simply be a case of insufficient vetting, the result of negligence rather than malice. But unfortunately, this is not an isolated incident.
In October, Amnesty drew sharp condemnation for sponsoring a U.S. speaking tour for activist Bassem Tamimi, who was revealed to be posting anti-Semitic material on Facebook. Last April, the organization was criticized after its membership rejected a resolution calling for Amnesty to combat anti-Semitism in Britain. Prior to that, Amnesty’s U.K. branch had failed to discipline a senior official who publicly equated Israel with ISIS.
At this point, then, it is worth asking whether the organization—whatever the merits of its other work—is a credible voice on anti-Jewish bigotry in Europe and the Middle East, or if it is becoming part of the problem.
Brendan O'Neill: The Boycott Israel movement is driven by bigotry
My dictionary defines a bigot as someone who “does not like other people who have a different way of life”. Could there be a better description of the Israel-allergic blowhards of BDS?
BDS bullies have shouted down Israeli theatrical productions, booed the Israel Philharmonic when it played at the Proms, yelled at Israeli academics who have the temerity to visit Western campuses. This isn’t a rational movement for change in the Middle East; it’s a visceral expression of rage against a whole nation, against what many Western liberals view as a non-people, a pariah people.
Far from being progressive, BDS is censorious, effectively silencing Israeli universities by repelling their academics from the West. It is shot through with ugly double standards, so that Israeli artists are harried in a way that artists from China or Zimbabwe never are. And worst of all it has ugly echoes of that darkest moment in European history, when Jewish produce was boycotted and Jewish books were burnt by Europeans who also considered themselves good citizens taking a stand against a problematic, polluting people whose things and ideas threatened European values.
And now, even Israeli children are being shunned, shamed, told they aren’t fit to engage with us decent Europeans. You know who else thought certain children were legitimate targets for prejudicial fury and punishment? Do I have to say it?
Eugene Kontorovich: Those Israel Boycotts Are Illegal (Google link*)
The moral myopia and academic perversity of these boycotts have been widely discussed. Less well understood is that in many cases they also are illegal. Under corporate law, an organization, including a nonprofit, can do only what is permitted under the purposes specified in its charter.
Boycott resolutions that are beyond the powers of an organization are void, and individual members can sue to have a court declare them invalid. The individuals serving on the boards of these organizations may be liable for damages.
Consider the American Historical Association. Its constitution—a corporate charter—states that its purpose “shall be the promotion of historical studies” and the “broadening of historical knowledge among the general public.” There’s nothing in this charter that would authorize a boycott. And an anti-Israel boycott will do nothing to promote “historical studies” or broaden “historical knowledge.”
One can go through similar exercises with the charters of other academic associations. A boycott by definition restricts study and research: The explanatory material attached to the AAA resolution, for example, says it would restrict the organization from sharing scholarly journals with Israeli universities.
Saying that organizations cannot act beyond the purposes specified in their charters is no mere legal nitpicking. The charter is an explicit contract with members, declaring that their money will be dedicated to agreed-upon goals and that their group will not turn into a motorcycle club or a political party. Iran has an initiative, promoted by the Ayatollah Khamenei,  to teach Islam to the youth of the world. The Twitter account spearheading this effort published this poster with a quote from the Supreme Leader himself:

The photo in the center is of Jihad Mishrawi mourning his son Omar's death.

And while I was the only one who reported it at the time, eventually even the UN admitted that Omar was almost certainly killed by a Hamas or Islamic Jihad rocket, not from an Israeli airstrike.

So, without realizing it, Iran is saying that Hamas rockets are terror weapons that even kill fellow Muslims.

Of course it is telling that Iran, in supposedly condemning terrorist, chooses an image of what they assumed was a result of an Israeli airstrike - out of all the possible photos of real terror attacks in the world.

KnessetJerusalem, December 2 - Members of the Joint Arab List delegation to the Israeli parliament submitted a petition to the High Court today demanding that the Knesset be designated as a "safe space" in which no criticism, mockery, or questioning of anti-Zionist ideas would be permitted. The petition comes on the heels of MK Haneen Zoabi (Balad) complaining that she felt "triggered" by the presence of Jews in their sovereign state.

The petition, filed by the Joint List, the New Israel Fund, Rabbis for Human Rights, The Israel Democracy Institute, and the Islamic Movement - Southern Division, asked the Court to rule that the Knesset was in violation of freedom of conscience for non-Zionist citizens. Those citizens, asserted the petitioners, encounter the daily, sometimes hourly, microaggression of being constantly bombarded with symbols, trappings, and insensitive reminders that Jews have established their own state instead of serving as perpetual dhimmis and whipping-boys for the non-Jewish majority in the region.

If the Court accepts the petition, the Knesset will be forced to accommodate the four anti-Zionist Arab parties that the Joint List comprises, and make arrangements to alter plenum protocol to eliminate content and deliberations that could be experienced as traumatic by legislators opposed to the existence of a Jewish state. Changes to protocol and decor would be required immediately, including the removal of all symbols of Jewish sovereignty: flags of Israel, the Menorah, portraits of famous Zionists, and Stars of David.

Events taking place at the Knesset compound would also be affected. Because of the triggering that may occur if fallen IDF soldiers or Holocaust victims are honored in their presence, the petition asks the Court to rule that holding any such ceremonies at the facility would violate the law. Similarly, the use of currency featuring images of ancient Jewish coins, or paper currency with Zionist figures, would be banned inside the building.

Petitioners included in their documents a request that the Court rule on the specific question of whether the safe space would be violated by the country continuing to call itself "Israel," a term with traumatic connotations for many in the anti-Zionist community. "While we support the need to remove all such triggers and instances of cultural insensitivity from the environment, we recognize the practical limitations of the safe space enterprise," it read. "We request that the Court determine whether antidiscrimination principles indicate the renaming of 'Israel' to something more neutral, such as 'Palestine,' 'Southern Syria,' 'Islamic State,' or some other less biased formula."

Last month, Meretz, Zionist Union, and Arab lawmakers demonstrated in the legislators' cafeteria against the SodaStream beverage machines in use behind the counter.

Gruesome details revealed about 1972 Munich massacre
The murders of 11 Israeli athletes by Palestinian terrorists at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich has long been engraved in Israel's national memory. But new details revealed by The New York Times on Tuesday reveal a level of barbarity by the terrorists previously unknown by the public.
The details come from interviews given by two of the athletes' widows, Ilana Romano and Ankie Spitzer, ahead of the release of the documentary film "Munich 1972 & Beyond" early next year.
The attack began early on Sept. 5, 1972, when eight Black September terrorists entered the Olympic Village and seized apartments where Israeli athletes were sleeping. Two Israelis were killed during the hostage-taking, while nine others were taken captive.
Weightlifter Yossef Romano was one of the athletes killed during the hostage-taking.
"What they did is that they cut off his genitals through his underwear and abused him," said his widow, Ilana Romano. "Can you imagine the nine others sitting around tied up? They watched this."
The nine other hostages were killed 20 hours later during a failed rescue attempt.
Daily Mirror refers to #Israeli victims of Munich Massacre as “terrorists” (UPDATE)
Is this merely an “editing error”, or does this British tabloid really think that the Israeli athletes brutally murdered by Palestinians during 1972 Olympics were “terrorists”? Here’s the strap line in an article published today.
They also used the term in the opening passage:
Note also, how the Israeli victims are somehow characterized as “terrorists”, but the Palestinians from Black September who murdered the athletes are merely ‘militants’
The article was written by Sam Webb, and we suggest you tweet him to point out his colossal error.
UPDATE: Moments after our post, and a tweet to the writer, the article was amended, and the term “terrorists” to describe the Israeli victims has been removed.
PMW: PA school honors two terrorist stabbers with tennis tournament in their names
Another Palestinian sports tournament for children has been named after terrorists. In keeping with PA policy of honoring terrorists and promoting them as heroes and role models, official PA school the Al-Rashideen High School for Boys, held a tennis tournament named after terrorists Basel and Farouq Sidr who recently attempted to murder Israelis. Several teams in the tournament were also named after terrorists who either murdered or attempted to murder Israelis in the last two months.
Basel Sidr, 19, tried to stab Israeli border policemen near Damascus Gate in the Old City of Jerusalem on Oct. 14, 2015 and was shot and killed by police while trying to escape. Farouq Sidr planned to stab Israeli soldiers in Hebron on Oct. 29, 2015, and soldiers saw him approaching with a knife in hand and shot and killed him.
Palestinian Media Watch exposed last week that another Palestinian school honored another terrorist stabber, naming a football tournament after him.

PalTrade provides a wide range of export support services in the areas of export development and market intelligence, export promotion, and export policy and advocacy.

PalTrade identifies and brings visibility to Palestinian exporters by unleashing their export potential to transform their businesses and accelerate prosperity in their communities.
Clearly, PalTrade is trying to help the Palestinian economy through increasing exports. But exporting through Jordan is difficult and time consuming. As I quoted a UN report in 2012:
Most Palestinian traders say it is still quicker and cheaper to export goods via Israel than Jordan.

Palestinian goods moving to or from Jordan must cross Allenby Bridge, where cargo is removed from Palestinian trucks, inspected, and then loaded onto Jordanian trucks. The process takes 4-8 hours or longer, and Allenby’s scanners cannot handle large cargo, reports the World Bank.

Since containers are prohibited from entering Jordan or Israel, Palestinian shippers say they often reconfigure cargo onto smaller pallets for inspection, and there is no cold storage.

If Palestinian shippers had consistent access to outside markets via Allenby Bridge, it could increase trade by as much as 30 percent annually, according to Paltrade.
Although people have been trying to get Jordan to improve the crossing, nothing has changed.

So about 80% of Palestinian exports go through Israel. Also, access to European markets make much more sense through Israel than through Jordan, so even if the Allenby Bridge route improves, Israel would still need to be the major route for Palestinian exports and imports.

So PalTrade must work closely with Israeli authorities and exporters in order to facilitate Palestinian trade.

However, when it was discovered that PalTrade was hosting a training session for Palestinian exporters, sponsored by the Norwegian government, in Tel Aviv this month, they came under heavy criticism. PalTrade is called a bunch of "traitors," "betraying the Palestinian cause" and "treacherous."

Khalil Rizk, chairman of the Federation of Palestinian Chambers of Commerce, said, "This is shameful and flawed, this departure from the national consensus and our committed decision to boycott everything related to meetings with the occupation authorities."

30 businessmen from the West Bank signed up for the training sessions, at a cost of 600 shekels each including transportation to and from Tel Aviv.

However, after these complaints, PalTrade says they canceled the session, saying it wil be rescheduled to take place in Jordan instead. In some reports, the head of PalTrade claims that he rejected the Tel Aviv venue immediately and told the Norwegian sponsors that, which does not seem to be true since registratioon forms were available.

So we have self-appointed Palestinian business leaders doing the opposite of what actual Palestinian businessmen want - which is to make money. The people who are supposed to support the Palestinian economy are working to stifle it.

One wonders what the Norwegian sponsors feel about all this.

Ben Norton at Salon wrote an incredibly one-sided anti-Israel piece about the partition of British Mandate Palestine.

The headline already tells you where this is going:

U.N. voted to partition Palestine 68 years ago, in an unfair plan made even worse by Israel’s ethnic cleansing

Norton quotes Ilan Pappe, the self-confessed twister of history to adhere to preconceived notions, as his source for many of his ludicrous claims. (See Benny Morris expose Pappe for his dishonesty here.)

I found one of Norton's links to be emblematic of his dishonesty.

He wrote that Zionism is "a settler colonialist Jewish nationalist political movement." and he links to a book about Theodor Herzl for the words "settler colonialist."

That book shows that Herzl wrote (but never sent) a letter to Cecil Rhodes, British imperialist whom Rhodesia was named after, almost begging for help in getting his support for a Jewish state in Palestine. Herzl is practically mimicking Rhodes' words to get him to sign on. At one point Herzl writes :
"You are being invited to help make history....It is not in your accustomed line, it does not involve Africa, but a piece of Asia Minor; not Englishmen, but Jews....How, then, do I happen to turn to you, since this is an out-of-the-way matter for you? How indeed? Because it is something colonial..."

Herzl is using the language of imperialism to gain the support of an imperialist. This does not prove that Zionism is imperialist.

And the proof is at the end of the quoted passage:
"What is the plan? To settle Palestine with the homecoming Jewish people."
If the Jews are returning home, this is not colonialism - this is a national liberation movement. Colonialism requires a metropole, or a mother country - the Jewish State does not because its center of existence is in Israel itself.

So Norton's own source proves him wrong.

This is hardly the most dishonest part. But they all add up:
Why were the Arabs angry? Because, for the indigenous Palestinians, the deal was a thoroughly bad one. Palestinians comprised approximately two-thirds of the population, yet were offered just 43 percent of their land in the deal.
He doesn't mention that most of the land allocated for Jews was desert.

The Partition Plan was never implemented, however. The very next day after it was voted on, the 1947-1948 war broke out.
And who started that war, only hours after the partition vote? Funny how Norton doesn't want to mention that, but rather implies that Jews started the war - which he then characterizes as "In this war, Zionist militias systematically ethnically cleansed large portions of historic Palestine." Besides lying about what "historic Palestine" is, Palmer is lying about the "ethnic cleansing." Most Arabs fled, especially the first wave before Plan Dalet which he mischaracterizes again as a plan of ethnic cleansing.

Palmer ends up with a interestingly twisted view of history, saying on one hand that Israel fulfilled its colonialist desires by taking over all of Palestine in 1967, but them saying that today Israel is increasing its control over the West Bank and Gaza. But I thought they stole full control of those lands in 1967! What possibly could have happened in between where Israel has to re-take all that land that it mysteriously lost control of? And if the Israeli military/colonialist/terrorist machine wants all that land, what is stopping it?

That omission is all you need to know about Palmer's dishonest views. Israel's giving away land it controlled  in Egypt, Gaza, Lebanon, and the West Bank for the hope of peace is not mentioned because those facts are too inconvenient for Palmer's thesis of the evil, land-stealing Zionist Jew.

Salon of course is hardly a bastion of objectivity regarding Israel - in 2012 they struck a deal with the antisemitic Mondoweiss site to provide content.

In April 2014, to much fanfare, Mahmoud Abbas signed letters of accession to 15 multilateral treaties and conventions.

One of them was the 1966 International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.

Article 20 of that covenant says:
1. Any propaganda for war shall be prohibited by law.

2. Any advocacy of national, racial or religious hatred that constitutes incitement to discrimination, hostility or violence shall be prohibited by law.

Not only does Abbas' government, media and political party regularly violate this, but Mahmoud Abbas regularly violates it himself.

Abbas said in October that Jews must be prevented from visiting the Temple Mount "by all means," meaning including violence.

He called Jews who waned to visit their holiest site a "herd of cattle."

And of course in September Abbas said "They have no right to desecrate them with their filthy feet. We won’t allow them to do so and we will do whatever we can to defend Jerusalem."

This is incitement for violence against Jews and Israelis. This is propaganda for war.

And this is all an explicit violation of a treaty that Mahmoud Abbas signed himself.

Hillel Neuer: Report: Despite UNRWA Promises, Teachers Incite to Murder “Jewish Apes & Pigs”
Above: UNRWA’s “Certificate of Ethics” for teacher who posts on Facebook that “Zionists and Jews” are “sons of apes and pigs.”
GENEVA, December 1, 2015 – Despite prior promises by UNRWA, the Palestinian relief agency, to put an end to online incitement by its teachers, numerous UNRWA teachers are still inciting to Palestinian knife attacks against what they describe as “Jewish apes and pigs,” and should be fired, according to a new report issued today by UN Watch, the Geneva-based watchdog group. See selections of report below; full report here.
UNRWA’s reported temporary suspensions of offenders, as reported by London’s Sunday Times, are clearly not working. Giving a slap on the wrist only sends the message that it’s business as usual. Instead, those who incite to racism or murder should be fired, under a zero tolerance policy, just as the UK government recently banned a teacher from the classroom for life over an anti-Semitic Facebook post.
UN Watch submitted the report today to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, UNRWA chief Pierre Krähenbühl — as well as to EU foreign affairs commissioner Federica Mogherini, and U.S. Ambassador Samantha Power, whose governments are the top funders of UNRWA.
The EU and its member states handed UNRWA more than $510 million last year. The US gave more than $400 million.
Watch Alan Dershowitz Debate a Prominent Human Rights Activist on BDS, and Win
Earlier this month at the famed Oxford Union debating society, Harvard law professor Alan Dershowitz prevailed in a showdown with U.K. human rights activist Peter Tatchell over the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions movement against Israel. The official motion was “Is the BDS movement against Israel wrong?” and after over an hour of debate, Dershowitz emerged victorious by a vote of 137-101. It was a surprising outcome given the general hostility towards the Jewish state on European university campuses. Just last July, Britain’s own National Union of Students voted to boycott Israel. But Dershowitz’s victory becomes more explicable when one examines the arguments put forward by him and his interlocutor.
At the outset, the law professor did not offer a defense of particular Israeli policies, and noted that he opposed some of them, including settlements. Rather, Dershowitz argued that the BDS movement’s opposition to the Jewish state’s existence and the two-state solution put it beyond the pale.
“The BDS movement is against the two-state solution,” he opened. “Listen to its founder Omar Barghouti talk about the two-state solution: ‘Good riddance. The two-state solution is finally dead. Someone has to issue the official death certificate… Definitely, most definitely, we oppose a Jewish state in any part of Palestine.’” (Indeed, BDS leaders routinely affirm their opposition to the Jewish state continuing in any borders.)
Dershowitz then called out the anti-Israel movement for holding Israel to a different standard than countries with similar or worse policies. “My major reason for opposing BDS is that BDS is directed only against Israel,” he said. “What about other countries that are enforcing military occupations with far less justification than Israel has had? Russia, Turkey, China, Indonesia, Armenia, Azerbaijan all continue to occupy territories that lawfully belong to their neighbors. Where is the boycott movement, the official BDS movement against these oppressors?”

Here's another 2011 article I wrote for NewsRealBlog that just went *poof*, so I am re-publishing it here.

(January 25, 2011)
Here's the latest from The Guardian:

In a crowded room in Aida refugee camp, Abu Khalil sipped sweet tea before listing reasons why he will never give up his right to return to his family's pre-1948 home.

"My home, my land, my mosque, my identity, my dreams. Everything I live for. You want me to give up all these things for a state?" All Palestinians agree, he said; there can be no compromise.

Certainly in this refugee camp at the edge of Bethlehem, where boys today played football in the shadow of the huge concrete wall which cuts it off from Jerusalem, it was hard to find any dissent.

The collective memory of the Palestinian homeland, before the State of Israel was born amid anguish and bloodshed in 1948, is bequeathed like a treasured heirloom through generations. The disclosure that Palestinian negotiators were prepared to make big concessions on this, the most visceral of issues, was greeted with disgust among the refugee population.

For Amar al-Masaid, 28, history was something he lived with every day. "Our country was taken by force," he said, amid jumbo boxes of cornflakes, tins of spam and chocolate Santa Clauses in his family's shop. "They invaded us. They are a colonial power. We will never make any compromise. We will never sell our land. It would be better to stay with the Jews under occupation that give up our rights."

His family had fled from Deir Aban in 1948; his father still has the deeds to the land they lost. "If you ask a little baby in these camps where their home is, they will answer you," he said.

On cue, seven-year-old Dahoud and his sister Ranim, five, arrived to buy dried coconut, sent by their mother. Where did they come from? "Palestine," said the boy; his sister whispered "Al-Maliha," an Arab village south of Jerusalem until 1948, now home to a huge Israeli shopping mall and sports stadium.

Here is a family that insists on going back to their ancestors' home.

Their ancestors' home is gone.

But they want to "return" anyway.

Where?

To Palestine!

But they live in an area that is slated to be "Palestine" already. They live in their own country, under the rule of their own people. Refugees, by definition, are no longer in their own country. (We will ignore for now that the descendants of refugees are not considered refugees for anyone else besides Palestinian Arabs.)

According al-Masaid, the refugees live in a prison. Look around you, he said gesturing at the wall looming a couple of hundred yards away.

They live in a "refugee" camp, a "prison.".

But is anyone forcing them to live there? Could they move to a part of the PA-controlled areas and buy a house?

Well, yes. They can. But then they would lose their free housing and medical care courtesy of UNRWA.

They are in their own land. They are free to find jobs, buy land, build houses, and raise their families, like the majority of Arabs who live under PA rule. They choose to stay in the camp.

They are not refugees by any definition. If your hometown demolishes your house to build a highway and you are forced to move to another town a few miles away, you are not a "refugee."

But the Guardian promotes this lie of a "refugee" population who are anything but.

Has the PA ever made a move to demolish the camps? Is the Palestinian Authority embarrassed that so many of its citizens are still in camps? No and no. On the contrary, the camps have three purposes: they keep the myth of the "refugees" alive; they keep financial pressure off of the PA; and - most importantly - they provide a great place for journalists to incite hatred against Israel by continuously pointing to "refugee camps" as examples of Israeli cruelty.

They are, in fact, great examples of Arab cruelty.

It is worth noting that Israel demolished all of its Arab refugee camps in the early 1950s and gave their Arab refugees full rights as citizens of the new state.

The PA has had control of most of the areas of the "refugee" camps for over 15 years now, and it has not demolished a single camp. Why not?

The "right to return" is not a human right. And it is also a non-starter - Israel cannot and will not absorb all the descendants of refugees, and everyone knows it. The only solution is to have these people become citizens of other countries, the way that every other refugee population in history has.

Their misery is the direct consequence of the Arab world's desire to keep the Palestinian Arabs as pawns to pressure Israel.

To give these people hope that they will one day "return" is an act of cruelty. They have been in limbo for six decades holding on to this false hope that is fed to them by cynical Arab leaders looking to destroy Israel demographically.

This article makes it clear that The Guardian wants them to remain in perpetual misery as well

This article has a single purpose - to keep the lie that they will one day "return" alive. The Guardian is using these people as pawns, exactly the same way that the Arab leaders have for generations: keeping them in camps as poster children for Israel's supposed cruelty, with never a mention of the Arab responsibility for maintaining this situation for decades. Their continued misery today translates into a new generation of terrorists tomorrow.

As has been clear for a while, the Guardian wants Israel to disappear. This article is simply one more bullet in their arsenal of lies.

The problem of the refugee camps in the West Bank and Gaza can be solved within a couple of years. There is no legal or moral reason to keep them there. All the billions of dollars that now go towards UNRWA to perpetuate their misery could go to build them houses and neighborhoods and new suburbs.

That is the truth that the Guardian will never, ever report.

A few days ago an Australian newspaper carried a small item headlined “Freemasons exposed”. It reported that one of the largest online genealogical websites, Ancestry.com, has added historic records of two million British Freemasons to its resources. Unfortunately, the newspaper seemed to pander to popular prejudice against what it called “the secretive Freemasons,” by noting gratuitously that those records contain “5500 policemen, 170 judges, 169 MPs, 16 bishops and an Indian prince” – thus implying, in the light of that headline, that these men’s membership of the craft was somehow improper, self-serving, and not in the public interest. It thus fed a canard long thrown at Freemasons, at least in Britain and Australia – that they look after their own, and form a shadowy nefarious powerful elite.

How a friend’s long-dead great-grandfather would have smiled at the notion that he was part of an elite. He was a British sailor from a lower middle class family who joined the Royal Navy as a teenager, retiring from the service with the rank of chief petty officer having spent many years on board a succession of ironclads as a stoker in the boiler room. Hardly an elite job. He became a Freemason when he was serving in a squadron based for a long period in Bermuda, jocularly recalling that “it was either the Lodge or the brothel”. He remained a loyal Freemason until the end of his life, as well as an active member of his local Anglican church, for he saw no contradiction in belonging to either. After all, Freemasonry is open to those who believe in a “Supreme Being”.

Far from being an organisation that promotes divisiveness and harm, Freemasonry, though not particularly fashionable these days, promotes camaraderie and charitableness. On the European Continent during the eighteenth century Freemasons were in the forefront of the Enlightenment and of liberalism. It was this that made the Roman Catholic Church fear and resent them, leading to Pope Leo X’s edict forbidding Catholics to join lodges. Yet a notion persists that Freemasonry bans Catholics, which is untrue; in the English-speaking world there are certainly Catholic members, and indeed there are members of most major faiths, including Jews.

Freemasonry contains numerous affinities to Judaism. In their article on Freemasonry in the Jewish Encyclopedia published in 1904 (http://www.jewishencyclopedia.com/articles/6335-freemasonry), scholars Cyrus Adler and Australian-born Joseph Jacobs, provide the eye-opening very long list of “chief technical terms of freemasonry which are connected with Jewish ideas and expressions”. They describe Freemasonry as an organisation “devoted to the promotion of fraternal feeling and morality” which in “its modern form … appears to have arisen in London in 1717, and thence spread through the British Isles to the Continent, reaching North America about 1729. In the preliminary stages which led up to freemasonry, there are traces of the influence of Judah Templo, the constructor of a model of Solomon's Temple, who visited England in the reign of Charles II. A coat of arms said to have been used or painted by him resembles greatly that adopted later by the freemasons of England … “

Emeritus Professor Aubrey Newman, of the University of Leicester, in a published talk to the Jewish Historical Society of England about Jews in English Freemasonry (http://www.jewishgen.org/jcr-uk/england_articles/Jews_in_English_Freemasonry.htm) tells us that the Grand Lodge’s records “of 1723 show the names of several Jews, such as Benjamin Deluze and Simon Ansell, and in 1725 Israel Segalas and Nicholas Abrahams; by 1732 Solomon Mountford, Solomon Mendez, Abraham Ximenes, and Abraham Cortissos. Grand Lodge each year appointed a number of Grand Stewards who had the very responsible and very public task of organizing the annual Grand Festival; among the lists of stewards can be found such names as Solomon Mendez (1732), Dr Meyer Schomberg (1734), Benjamin da Costa (1736), and Isaac
Barrett, Joseph Harris, Samuel Lowman, and Moses Mendez (all in 1738).”

Furthermore, “From the records of individual Lodges we find that when Lebeck's Head Lodge was constituted in 1759 thirteen of its founders had Jewish names. The Lodge of the Nine Muses which was founded in 1777 included amongst its earliest members Francis Franco, Raphael Franco, Dr Isaac Sequira, and Abraham Teixera. There are other Lodges of distinction and prestige which contain Jews. The Prince of Wales' Lodge – admission to which was in practice restricted to associates of the Prince himself – has several Jews and equally we find that in the Grand Master's Lodge No. 1 that a Jew was its Master in 1800.” They were Sephardim, but “The records of the Lodge of Israel, founded in 1793, show that its founders and members came largely from Ashkenazi tradesmen in the East End of London. In 1802 Nathan Meyer Rothschild was initiated in Emulation Lodge, while his [Sephardi] brother-in-law, Moses Montefiore, was initiated into Moira Lodge in 1812. There were then four other Jewish members – Benjamin Cohen, Isaac Cohen, Moses Asher Goldsmid, and Myer Solomon Solomon – all Ashkenazim. The records of these Lodges usually give details of the occupations of their new members and there is a very wide variety of them - Dealer, Chapman, distiller, doctor, feather dresser, draper, merchant, musician, jeweler are all to be found.”

There is no doubt that the lodges helped to facilitate the integration of Jews into British society. Granted, in both Britain and the United States there were isolated instances of lodge members looking askance at the notion of accepting Jews, but such bigotry, which was common in nineteenth-century Germany and occurred in certain other continental locations, was very much the exception that proves the rule. To quote Aubrey Newman: “In the Lodge of Friendship there is a minute for 2nd November 1752; 'Br Oliver Newman proposed a Jew to be made a Mason; the question being put for and against it was by order of the Master to be decided by a holding up of hands which was carried in the negative and concluded for the future no Jew should be recommended or admitted into the Lodge.' I would add that despite that ruling later that same month a Jew was apparently initiated in that very Lodge, and three years later he was elected Master of that Lodge. Two other Lodges at the end of the century passed similar resolutions but they all seem to have been ignored, as testified by the number of Jews on their lists of members…. In England a number of lodges exist formed exclusively of Jews, but as a rule the latter have joined the ordinary lodges, in which some of them have reached a very high rank.”

I mention the cordiality of British and American lodges towards Jews because one or two Jewish friends have over the years made derogatory remarks about Freemasonry, no doubt influenced by the prejudicial attitude towards Freemasonry that still exists in far too many minds, especially on the political left, as was seen in Britain a couple of decades ago when a leftist MP mounted a campaign against them that was almost persecutory. It is as well to remember not only that Freemasons have been allies of Jews but that they, too, have been agents of modernity and liberalism, and that in consequence the enemies of the one have typically been enemies of the other.

Take the renegade Jew Jacob Brafman, for example. That obnoxious denizen of Tsarist Russia, a former Hebrew teacher in Minsk who left Judaism and turned government informer, censoring Hebrew and Yiddish books in St Petersburg and Vilna, authored in the mid-nineteenth century the vile Kniga Kahala (Book of the Kahal) which seriously traduced Russian Jewry. A precursor to the notorious “warrant for genocide” (in Norman Cohn’s phrase) Protocols of the Learned Elders of Zion concocted some decades later, it was, as far as I’m aware, the first publication to link Jews and Freemasons as partners in some gigantic conspiracy against the established order.

Then, too, the ultramontane and fascist persecutors of Jews in nineteenth- and twentieth-century France classed Jews, Freemasons, and Protestants as the trio of so-called métèque elements held, absurdly, to be deliberately and perversely undermining the nation. Hitler, of course, actively persecuted Freemasons.

Indeed, there are numerous contemporary internet examples of the same sick mindset, combining grotesque antisemitic, anti-Israel, and anti-Masonic tripe that routinely blames Judaism, Zionism, and Freemasonry for the world's troubles.

The video here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uxxWlQhkbGI), dating to 2012, is an example of the genre: an insight into the raw antisemitism that still lurks in some quarters – the kind of meshugge Jew-hatred, with references to rule by the Rothschilds and a Judeo-Masonic conspiracy – that really should have had the decency to have died along with Hitler. In the same vein is this pathetic guy, Kalen Ockerman, painting a mural with antisemitic content that same year on a wall in London’s East End (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b9p8Og6-YcY). Not to mention this excrescence (http://www.memri.org/clip_transcript/en/2707.htm), a Hamas TV drama aired five years ago that contains (as translated by Memri.org) the immortal lines: “The hands of Freemasonry have shaken the filthy hands of the hypocrites – of the Union and Progress Party, for example. One conspiracy followed another, until a coup d'etat took place. The coup ended the rule of Sultan Abdul Hamid II, on March 10, 1909. The greatest obstacle was removed from the path of the Jews. Jewish minds and defiled hands have brought down the Caliphate, and a new stage in the conflict has begun.”

I wouldn’t be surprised if there are further examples from that neck of the woods in the ensuing years. After all, just as Islamic extremism is a sworn enemy to Jews and Israel, so is it a sworn enemy to Freemasonry. This chilling piece is indicative (http://freemasoninformation.com/masonic-education/anti-masonry/anti-freemasonry-in-islam/hamas-and-al-qaeda-on-freemasonry/). Let’s all support each other.

From Ian:

How To Stop Mass Casualty Terror Attacks: Take Violence Against Jews Seriously
You don’t have to be Hercule Poirot to realize that a justice system headed by a man who doesn’t consider synagogue attendance as a gathering or Jewish museums as public places isn’t going to try especially hard to pursue justice when the victims are Jews. A year after the shooting in the Jewish Museum, Brussels was on an unprecedented four-day lock down following the shootings in Paris, with many of the suspects traced back to the same neighborhood and the same network that spawned Nemmouche.
And the Belgians are hardly alone. On Nov. 5, 1990, the Israeli rabbi and politician Meir Kahane finished a speech in the Marriott East Side hotel in Manhattan. He stepped off stage shortly after 9 p.m., surrounded by well-wishers and supporters. A man disguised as an Orthodox Jew emerged from the crowd, drew a .357 caliber pistol, and shot Kahane from close range, killing him. He was revealed to be El Sayyid Nosair, an Egyptian-born American citizen living in Jersey City.
Nosair, authorities soon learned, wasn’t working alone. He was part of a network run by Omar Abdel-Rahman, known as the Blind Sheik. So great was the jury’s contempt for Kahane, that they acquitted Nosair of murder and convicted him only of assault and possession of an illegal firearm, a decision that the trial’s judge, Justice Alvin Schlesinger, lamented went “against the overwhelming weight of evidence and was devoid of common sense and logic.” Nosair’s legal defense was paid by a wealthy supporter of Abdel-Rahman, one Osama Bin Laden. Three years later, several of Abdel-Rahman’s other disciples were arrested for attempting to blow up the World Trade Center.
Could Abdel-Rahman have been stopped? Would a more aggressive investigation of Nosair have led to his operator and curtailed not only the first attempt on the World Trade Center but also the second, and tragically successful one, on Sept. 11, 2001? And, more importantly, have we the mindset necessary to prevent the next attack?
JCPA: Connecting the Terror in Paris with the Terror against Israel
In this regard the struggle that the ultra-radical Islamists are waging against the West and its allies, on the one hand, and the Palestinian struggle against Israel, on the other, complement each other. Their common goal is to destroy the world order that the West created after the First World War, which included the dismantlement of the caliphate, the Sykes-Picot Agreement, and the adoption of the Balfour Declaration at the San Remo Conference as part of the British Mandate. This world order was reinforced after the Second World War, among other things by the decision to establish a Jewish State in Eretz Yisrael, whose implementation in the face of Muslim opposition is still rejected by the Palestinians and by radical Islam in all its variants. Thus, the terror against Israel and the terror against the West are two sides of the same coin from an ideological standpoint as well, not only regarding its methods and the means of fighting it. Israel needs to make this connection clearer to its friends in the West.
What disturbs the Palestinians is that as radical Islam’s direct warfare against the West expands, they lose a key asset for promoting their goals. If, as is becoming increasingly clear, the Palestinian issue is not the heart of the problem, then the West’s expression of regret for its “crimes” on this issue will not solve the greater problem. The request for penance must be much more far-reaching; Iranian President Hassan Rouhani recently made dialogue with the United States conditional on an American request for Iran’s forgiveness. In addition, the more the connection between the two kinds of terror grows, the more the radical Islamic component of the Palestinian rejection of Israel’s existence as the democratic nation-state of the Jewish people and preference for a violent struggle to eliminate it, is exposed. The West would better understand how difficult it is to promote a settlement and may (as Israel would hope) come to understand that the terror against Israel is essentially part and parcel of the terror against the West.
Israel’s outlawing of the northern branch of the Israeli Islamic movement, which is the arm of realistic radical Islam among the Israeli Arabs, is part of the struggle against this radical ideology. Unfortunately, many in the West still think that realistic radical Islam (Rouhani and the Muslim Brotherhood, for example) is a legitimate partner in the fight against the ultra-radical Islamists, and favor it over the pragmatic elements in the Islamic world. I’m afraid that even the current wave of attacks will not suffice to change this mindset.
PMW: Mahmoud Abbas: Murdering Israelis is "popular peaceful uprising"
A statement by PA Chairman Abbas explains why he has not yet condemned even one of the 22 murders of Israelis during the past two months of terror, even though he tells the international community he is against terror. Referring to the current Palestinian terror uprising, which at the time of Abbas’ statement had already murdered 14 Israelis and wounded 167 in 65 stabbings and 8 shootings, Abbas announced on PA TV that it is a “peaceful uprising.” [Figures from http://mfa.gov.il]
Abbas: “No one called for this uprising and no one asked for it. It stemmed from the hearts of the young... We said to everyone that we want peaceful popular uprising, and that’s what this is. That’s what this is. However, the aggression of firing bullets has come from the Israelis.” [Official PA TV, Nov. 16, 2015]
According to Abbas, when Palestinians kill young Israeli parents in front of their children, kill Israeli teens, or kill Israeli fathers with their sons, it is not to be condemned as terror because it is an expression of “peace.” And therefore, when Israelis kill the stabbers and shooters who are trying to peacefully kill Israelis - it is the Israelis who are the “aggressors.”
Significantly, Abbas openly admitted that he called “to everyone” for this violence:
“We said to everyone that we want peaceful popular uprising, and that’s what this is. That’s what this is.”

Last week I wrote about an antisemitic op-ed in Saudi Arabia's Al Riyadh newspaper.

It wasn't the first.

And it wasn't the last, either.

Maha Mohammed Sharif writes a historical essay on the Rothschild family in that news site.

Not from the article, just a random Rothschild meme.
Saudi readers learn that Nathan Rothschild, the "shrewd founder of the English branch of the family," was the "architect of The Protocols of the Elders of Zion, and the most dangerous conspirator known to the world." His grandchildren inherited the conspiratorial Jewish mindset.

Although the Rothschilds bragged about controlling the world, the most sickening thing they ever did was buy some land in Palestine for Jews to live. The reason he bought the land, of course, was to sow discord and cause displacement of Arabs and create conflicts. Because that is what Jews do!

The Rothschilds and their spiritual heirs are the "diabolocal minds" behind dividing up the Arab world and to weaken their governments and to damage religious institutions.

The final paragraph:

With the whole world mortgaging their possessions to Jewish money, the Jews have excelled in all fields and disciplines and transformed Zionism into a political movement that has attracted international attention. They have also sought to develop science and Jewish culture and their scientists won a multitude of Nobel prizes, and here we can only say they have succeeded with resounding success in all of their tyrannical and scientific methods. They created the largest terrorist movement in history through this Zionist family's leadership, famous for the planning of the killing and bloodshed against Arabs and Muslims.

This is not even the first time Al-Ruyadh obsessed with the Rothschilds, proving that the Jews are controlling the minds of the Saudi columnists there.

The implication is that Jews have no real roots in Israel, while the Palestinians do, and a simple slingshot proves how easily the frightened Jews run away.

It is truly amazing.

Every time "Palestine" manages to get membership in an international forum, they try to hijack it for their own selfish purposes.

They do it with UNESCO. They do it at conferences for refugees. They do it during international days for children and for women.

Yesterday, the pattern continued:
President Mahmoud Abbas Monday said Israel’s ongoing violations of international law regarding preserving Palestine’s environment are a major challenge.

Abbas delivered a speech at the Paris Climate Change conference, which was held at Le Bourget starting from November 30 and is expected to continue until December 11.

Abbas addressed the issue of climate change, saying it has become a national challenge for all countries all over the world.

He said, “The state of Palestine, which is a full member in many international organizations and agreements, continues its preparations to join the United Nations Framework Convention on climate change, and to simultaneously and positively contribute and hold its responsibilities as a member state in the near future.”

Considering the Israeli occupation’s impact in Palestine’s environment, Abbas said Israel’s continuous violations of international law regarding preserving the environment in Palestine is a major challenge for Palestinians.

He mentioned a number of violations including, confiscating natural resources, destroying agricultural crops, uprooting trees, hindering developing vital infrastructure for Palestine, dumping all kinds of Wastes in Palestinians’ lands and polluting the groundwater through a system of a racial segregation, which violates of international law.

Abbas said, Palestine continues to suffer from the Israeli occupation and the horrible crimes of Israeli settlers and daily violations of holy Christian and Muslim sites in Jerusalem.
You can tell how seriously Mahmoud Abbas takes environmental and social issues.

Do the people who work so hard on these conferences get upset at these blatant attempts to hijack them for narrow political ends? Or are they so far gone alreadythat they all believe that if only Israel didn't exist, all other world problems would go away?

Dr. Marsha Levine is an expert on the history of the domestication of horses who i(still claims to be) a researcher at Cambridge University although apparently she no longer is.

A young Israeli girl named Shachar Rabinovitch wrote to her for help on a school research project:
Hello!

My name is Shachar Rabinovitch and I'm from Israel.

I'm doing an assessment for school about horses, and it will be great if you can answer a few questions that I will ask.

1. What ancient horses breeds preserved and were a base to the breeds we know today?

2. How did the ancient humens created new breeds or kept the ones who already were existent?

3. What ancient horse breed the ancient humens used the most and what were those uses?

4. Where did the ancient horses breeds lived?

Thank you for reading my questions, Shachar Rabinovitch

Here was Dr. Levine's answer:
Dear Shachar Rabinovich:

I'll answer your questions when there is peace and justice for Palestinians in Palestine.

I am a member of Jews for Justice for Palestinians (http://jfjfp.com). I support Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions. You might be a child, but if you are old enough to write to me, you are old enough to learn about Israeli history and how it has impacted on the lives of Palestinian people. Maybe your family has the same views as I do, but I doubt it. So, I suggest that you look at this link: http://jfjfp.com/?page_id=338

yours sincerely

Dr Marsha Levine
Dr. Marsha Levine is too damned ethical to help out an Israeli schoolgirl.

Yet one of Levine's Facebook friends is Egyptian. And Egyptians have treated Palestinians like crap since 1948. But Marsha Levine doesn't boycott him. She isn't interested in Egypt treating Palestinians with any dignity.

No, her concern for Palestinians begins and ends in Israel.

Levine, like all BDS hypocrites, doesn't particularly like Palestinians. She won't say a word about how they are treated in Gaza or Lebanon or Syria or Egypt. Her Facebook page is completely empty of any criticism of how Palestinians are being treated in those countries. She just likes to use a false sense of ethics to give her seething hate for Israeli Jews a respectable front.

But her hate shines through in her sickening response to an innocent question from an Israeli Jewish schoolgirl.

(h/t David Collier and SFI)

UPDATE: TheJC contacted Levine and she doubled down, calling Israeli Jews "Nazis."

UPDATE 2: The Telegraph also interviewed her:
“Kids have questions, I usually answer their questions,” she said. “But I have agreed to BDS [the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement against Israel], and I do want to see justice for Palestine.

“In Israel the majority of Israelis support the policies of the government which abuses the rights of Palestinians, so the fact is I don’t want to help Israelis, and if you don't start with children where do you start?

“And she is not that young anyway, her English is pretty good. If people don’t stand up for justice, the world is going to come to an end.”
So insulting rudely treating a 13-year old girl is now called "justice."
