Two Hamas members offed themselves in northern Gaza. Hamas blames Israel, but it is not quite sure how to blame Israel:
Hamas initially said the men were killed in an Israeli airstrike, then said they had been shot and later said they were killed by Israeli tank fire.

But the Israeli military says it wasn't involved.

YNet fills in the blanks:
Two Hamas gunmen were killed in what appears to be a malfunction of an explosive device they were attempting to place near an area of Gaza's border fence regularly patrolled by soldiers, Palestinian sources reported Tuesday.

Preliminary reports said the two were killed an Air Force strike, but the reports turned out to be false.

The 2009 PalArab self-death count rises to 178.

Two Hamas members were killed in yet another "work accident" on Friday night in a "jihad mission" in central Gaza, Hamas announced.

The statement identified the victims as members of the Al-Qassam Brigades Osama Kamal Nabaheen and Bakr Jamal Nabaheen from Al-Bureij Camp.

Hamas announced deathd of the two activists over loudspeakers calling on Gaza residents to participate in their funeral processions on Saturday.
The 2009 PalArab self-death count is now at 121.

The Al Qassam Brigades website mentions another Hamas member who accidentally got offed while training to kill Jews, this time in Gaza City.

The 2009 PalArab self-death count is now at 119.

There are reports that Israel approved the PA receiving 1000 Kalashnikov assault rifles.

An 18-year old Hamas man was killed "while doing an act of jihad" in Gaza City. Work accident!

A 22-year old man was stabbed to death in Khan Younis. A suspect in another murder was caught trying to escape through a smuggling tunnel.

Hamas continues to arrest Fatah supporters in Gaza (just as Fatah is doing to Hamas members in the West Bank.)

On Saturday, PA "Prime Minister" Fayyad disingenuously said that the PA is willing to give rights to Jews who choose to live in "Palestine." Another leading PA figure who is negotiating with Hamas in Cairo, Dr. Abu Samhadana, responded that the Fatah position is not to allow a single Israeli to live in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.

The Neturei Karta wrote a letter to Hamas giving them advice on how to destroy Israel.

The 2009 PalArab self-death count is now at 113.

Wednesday, July 01, 2009

Hamas announced the death of field leader Ali Mohammed Tayeh, who was killed during a "special Jihad mission" in Gaza. In other words, a "work accident."(They only used the words "jihad mission" in Arabic.)

Some Palestinian Arabs are touting one benefit of being imprisoned in Israel: learning Hebrew. Their knowledge of the language helps them to understand the enemy and write letters to Hebrew newspapers that are more likely to be published. One former prisoner mentioned that he managed to take correspondence courses from Hebrew University while in prison.

Palestine Today quoted Karen Abu Zayd, commissioner general of UNRWA, as saying that Israel has set Gaza back to the Middle Ages. Keep in mind that this was being quoted in a website for a newspaper in Gaza which also publishes photos like this one, from a conference on youth in media. Look how primitive these people's lives are!

An Islamic Jihad site has a headline that a group of 30-40 radical Zionist Jewish extremists stormed the Al Aqsa compound (Temple Mount.) This "storming" consisted pretty much of...walking. Here's their picture:
Looks really violent!

The 2009 PalArab self-death count is now at 109.

Work accident - A Hamas member was killed on a special "jihad mission" in the the northern Gaza Strip, and apparently he managed to kill someone else along with him. Interestingly, he seems to have been killed in a tunnel that is nowhere near Egypt, meaning that it is likely that Hamas is working on more tunnels to Israel to stage terror attacks.

Tunnel collapse - Another Gaza man was killed, and another injured, when a smuggling tunnel collapsed on them in Rafah.

Hamas, Fatah tensions escalate - For the past couple of weeks, the numbers of tit-for-tat arrests of Hamas members in the West Bank and Fatah members in Gaza have accelerated.

Love doesn't conquer all - An Israeli court is hearing an appeal of a gay Palestinian Arab man to become a permanent resident of Israel, as he has an Israeli lover and believes that his life is in danger under PA control.

Syrian snakes strike back - A Syrian girl was bitten four times by a viper in a single week. Perhaps the snakes are organizing their own resistance movement against Syrian girls for the Snake Nakba.

The 2009 PalArab self death count is now at 85.

What do Hamas and I have in common? Hamas is also upset about the PCHR being biased! Of course, the bias is against Hamas... "We put big question marks around their credibility and fairness."

What does Binyomin Netanyahu and Mahmoud Abbas have in common? Neither of them will agree to placing any part of Jerusalem under third-party control!

Firas Press reports that Hamas is sending a computer virus to people in the West Bank through fake emails. Not sure how they know it is Hamas, sounds like regular malicious spam.

There are increasing reports of internal divisions in Hamas, as well as pressure on them as Egypt identified some of Hamas' money sources and shut off the spigot.

A Gazan was injured by an explosion inside his house. Just another work accident....

Ma'an mentions:
One fighter from Hamas’ Al-Qassam Brigades died Thursday during what leaders called a “special mission” in the northern Gaza town of Beit Hanoun.

A statement from the group identified the man as 23-year-old Tala’at Ismail Al-Afefi, who reportedly died while carrying out a resistance attack from Gaza’s “playground of death.”
Since the report doesn't say he was killed by the Zionist entity, that means that poor Tala'at either blew himself up or was killed by one of his brave jihadist pals.

Also, a Palestinian Arab was stabbed to death near Ramallah on Tuesday.

The 2009 PalArab self-death count is now at 74.

Two Fatah members were killed in Central Gaza in another apparent "work accident." Fatah said they were on a "special mission" and were killed by Israeli shells, but Israel denied any activity in the area.

Israel arrested ten Hamas leaders in the West Bank in an apparent attempt to use them as leverage for Gilad Shalit. Hamas responded that this endangers the life of Shalit, which effectively means that they are threatening to kill him. No comment yet from "human rights" organizations.

Have you noticed that none of the families of PalArab prisoners in Israeli prisons ever protest the Hamas government to release Shalit so their relatives could get released?

Members of the "World Congress of Imams and Rabbis for Peace" have entered Gaza to distribute aid and try to teach Gazans about peace. I don't know much about them but they also visited Sderot and met with children there, so at least they have the appearance of being sincere.

Here is why autotranslation does not work well for sports stories:
a leading Jaisp - matches concluded yesterday, the fifth week in a deferred annexation of neighboring institution beer and Orthodox Ramallah in the Premier Basketball League, organized by the Union of the Palestinian basketball sponsored by a mobile terminal and the martyr Ibrahim Ahtdhantha Lion in Far'a In the meeting on the progress of the outcome of the Orthodox versus 66 49 of the beer was cool and the game was marked by tension and lack of excitement.
At least the beer was cool.

A an Arab baby was born in Hebron with some baby teeth; Palestine Today regards this as a miracle and says "praise God." Natal teeth occur in about 1 in every 2000 births and could indicate a problem.

Work accident! Two Hamas members were killed in another of those "mysterious explosions" in Gaza.

Tunnel accident! One died, five injured in a Rafah smuggling tunnel. Ma'an claims that Egypt had fired something called "gas bombs" but the other PalArabic press just say that they suffocated. I will not count this as a self-death yet, but if Ma'an is correct, that means that Egypt just killed a Palestinian Arab and no one cares.

"Collaborators" no more: Two Gazans were executed for being suspected of collaborating with Israel. I couldn't find any mention of an arrest or trial. It's almost as if Hamas doesn't subscribe to normal standards of behavior and human rights!

When homemade projectiles turn deadly.... A Qassam rocket, invariably described as a mere nuisance when shot against Israel, fell short in Gaza - and now it is a big deal:
Two families said narrowly escaped death when a Palestinian homemade projectile hit their apartments in Al-Farahin, east of Khan Younis, in the southern Gaza Strip on Friday night.

The official Palestinian news agency WAFA quoted the owner of the apartments, Ahmad Abu Duqqa, as saying, “The projectile drilled through the roof causing serious damage."

"Only the heavens prevented a massacre," said Abu Duqqa, "as the projectile hit a bathroom next to my four grandchildren and their mother, who live with us after they fled their home because it is in the range of Israeli fire.”
Working to make Hamas respectable: Representatives from the Carter Center are working on reconciliation between Hamas and Fatah. They met with Hamas leaders today in Ramallah. No doubt they are trying to find ways that Hamas can keep its desire to destroy Israel but can convince Europe that they don't really mean it.

The 2009 PalArab self-death count is now at 32.

The supposedly unbiased Palestinian Arab Ma'an newspaper has a curious article this morning:
Three Palestinians were killed during a military operation near the Israeli-Gaza border in the north of Gaza and another two during a separate mission in the south-central region.

A statement from Hamas confirmed the death of three activists from their Al-Qassam Brigades. A statement from the group said the three were on a mission near the Israeli town of Netiv Ha’asara on the northern border with the Gaza Strip. They were identified as Muhammad Ma’ruf, Ahmad Abu Al-Ma’azza and Raed Al-Masri.

The statement also detailed the death of two other Al-Qassam activists, who were performing a "mission of Jihad” east of Al-Qarara in the southern Gaza Strip. The two slain activists were named as Islam Jadallah and Muhammad Al-Halabi.
Does it sound like all five were killed by Israel? Both groups were on a Jihad mission when killed, so what else could it be?

Ma'an knows very well what happened. The first group was killed by the IDF while trying to plant explosives at the border fence, and the second group was killed when they accidentally blew themselves up.The Hamas statement is pretty clear to anyone who has ever read such statements. Ma'an is trying to pump up the number of "martyrs" to incite public opinion for Hamas and against Israel, and here was a convenient opportunity.

Another Hamas member was injured in a different "mysterious explosion" as well.

The 2008 PalArab self-death count is now at 224.

Too late for this year's Splodie Awards, we have a 21-year old man who was working on a top-secret religious jihad mission in his house east of Khan Younis. Unfortunately, the mission involved the use of high explosives, and the house blew up, killing the young man and injuring three others, including his own father.

The 2008 PalArab self-death count is now a symmetric 222.

Monday, December 15, 2008

It is time for the much-anticipated Second Annual Splodie Awards, where we honor the best of the year's "work accidents" and other self-inflicted deaths in the peaceful Palestinian Arab areas.

Without further ado...

Best house explosion: A house exploded in Gaza on February 15th, killing an Islamic Jihad member and his entire family of 8. Apparently, the house was also the site of a missile factory, as eyewitnesses saw debris from the huge explosion that looked like Qassam rockets. Which just goes to show - sometimes, they really are home-made rockets!

Almost as bad as sand in your swimsuit: A beachfront Hamas training area was rocked by an explosion on March 20, killing two Hamas members. Hamas claimed that it was merely two really, really bad cases of sunburn for the vacationing jihadists.

Best place for Farfour the Mouse to play: On May 11, a Hamas member who was trying to bring some explosives to Israel exploded at the Gaza border fence. The Hamas press release said that he had been killed in the "playground of death" while preparing for a Jihad mission. Well, the UN does complain that Gaza doesn't have enough playgrounds.

Second best house explosion: In June, around 7 Hamas members attained paradise when the house of the Hamouda family in Beit Hanoun blew up. Unless there is a clause in a hadith somewhere that you don't get into heaven unless you kill some Jews. Boy, that would suck, wouldn't it?

The pen is mightier than the sword award: In October of 2007, Reuters credulously reported that Hamas was building a "media city" at the site of the former Israeli community of Ganei Tal in Gaza. They even showed a picture of a building being built there. Well, in July, a large explosion destroyed a building in that same community, killing two Hamas members. It must have been those highly-combustible 8mm tapes.

True truce award: Right after the "calm" started with Israel, a Hamas member was killed and his 17-year old brother severely injured when a bomb they were preparing blew up a bit earlier than intended. It was a moderate bomb, though, so Israel had no need to be concerned.

Best solution to the Gaza overpopulation problem: Hamas decided that the best way to train for urban battles was to use live fire - and missiles - in a residential neighborhood of Gaza City. Residents panicked and many houses were damaged. But, Gaza is so crowded, what choice does Hamas have? Anyone who complains must be a collaborator, anyway. (A similar live-fire exercise did kill a civilian a couple of months later.)

Bada bing, bada boom award: A senior Hamas member, along with four others, were fragged at an explosion at the El Hilal Cafe. They were warned not to criticize the soup. It is, after all, a matter of honor.

Cyber warfare award: One of those nests of evil and vice, an Internet cafe, was targeted by a very religious and moral man who couldn't stand the idea of something so vile in the middle of the beautiful place known as Gaza. He managed to blow it up, thank Allah. Unfortunately, he was still inside, giving a new meaning to the phrase "distributed computing."

"Can you dig it? Um, no": A smuggling tunnel collapsed in Rafah in August, killing 5, and another one a week later killing 6 more. At least they had a really good accidental death plan from their employer.

The dead can't complain award: A bus filled with happy Hamas supporters took exception to the Islamic Jihad member who asked them not to sing when they were passing a funeral home. So they killed him. But they were very respectful about it.

Best bomb disposal of the year: A bomb was discovered near Gaza City and the Hamas police were called in to defuse it. The explosives expert carefully transported the device to the police station. There, surrounded by other explosives and weapons, he managed to detonate the bomb, killing himself and wounding others, as well as causing secondary explosions. I guess that Hamas experts have much more experience building bombs than dismantling them.

(Last year's awards can be seen here.)

A "work accident" injured four Hamas members in Khan Younis.

Saudi Arabia denied Hamas accusations that they didn't give Hajj visas to Palestinian Arab pilgrims, as both sides continue to trade accusations and insults.

Hamas attacked, beat and killed a 41-year old chicken seller in a public market in the Maghazi camp in central Gaza.

The PalArab press quotes Maariv as saying that Israel will intercept the Libyan ship headed for Gaza, purportedly filled with humanitarian aid that is due to arrive on Monday. (UPDATE: They did.)

Meanwhile, Turkey says it will send its own ship to Gaza, in coordination with Hamas. It would supposedly contain medicines and "Palestinian campaigners."

Islamic Jihad said that it has no intention of continuing the illusory "calm" in Gaza past the six month mark, whose deadline is due in the coming weeks.

It is instructive that while the world media has been tirelessly reporting on the smuggling of food and fuel (and motorcycles and TVs) to Gaza, Egypt keeps intercepting shipments of weapons and explosives also bound for Gaza. These smuggled goods somehow escape the radar of the intrepid journalists.

Speaking of tunnels, an enterprising young man in Gaza has found a good use for the soil that is dug up by the tunnel diggers - he is building old-fashioned ovens out of the mud mixed with straw, and selling them for 150 shekels each. Apparently the mud is ideal for these ovens.

The 2008 PalArab self-death count is now at 216.

A Hamas member was killed in a "work accident", which pro-Hamas Arabs blame on "shrapnel" from an Israeli tank missile but which more objective Arabs note was one of those "mysterious explosions." Hamas noted that the terrorist was in the midst of a jihad task.

Hamas officials in Gaza are now claiming that hundreds of thousands of chicks were euthanized because there was no fuel to keep them warm, and two million more are in danger of being killed. Which makes one wonder how farms managed to work before the 20th century, as well as why aren't the chicks being fed to "starving" Gazans?

Hamas is trying to force a family from Gaza to leave their home. It seems that they live near Hamas leader Haniyeh; maybe it is one of those "land grabs" that Arabs always complain about.

Hamas attacked a wedding on Tuesday night, because the members were singing Fatah tunes. They broke chairs and sound equipment and abducted a number of celebrants.

The Saudi Committee for the Relief of the Palestinian People somehow sent a convoy of trucks filled with rice to Gaza. Last week they brought flour, next week they plan to bring dried milk. In the past they have worked with UNESCO and UNICEF, so apparently this convoy came through Israeli territory, but I cannot find any other story about this.

An Islamic Jihad leader predicts that Hamas will declare a new Palestinian Arab president in January, further pushing the division between Gaza and Ramallah.

Tunnel builders in Rafah are increasing the amount of fuel smuggled into Gaza from Egypt, building new pipelines. They expect to have completed a real pipeline, as opposed to the hoses they use now, in the next week or so, and they hope to be able to transport natural gas as well.

The 2008 PalArab self-death count is now at 214.

Saturday, November 15, 2008

The West's favorite "moderate" politician, Mahmoud Abbas, peacefully threatened Israel saying that if Israel doesn't go back to the pre-1967 "Auschwitz borders," there will be perpetual war.

Which goes to show that the PLO letter to Israel at Oslo that solemnly promised to abandon violence was not worth the paper it was written on. And brings up the question that people are afraid to ask: what is to say that any "peace agreement" will not be torn up as well?

Fatah is planning a conference to debate this exact issue - whether to stay with supposed peace while supporting terror implicitly, or to return to supporting terror explicitly.

A "work accident" killed 2 terrorists in Beit Hanoun, but predictably the PalArabs blame an Israeli airstrike. After a lull, the 2008 PalArab self-death count rises to 213.

Friday, August 15, 2008

Ma'an quotes the UNIFIL head in Lebanon as complaining that only Israel is violating UN Resolution 1701; saying that relations between UNIFIL and Hezbollah are "wonderful" and that the reason that UNIFIL doesnt attempt to stop weapons smuggling from Syria is because the Lebanese government never asked it to. The Hezbollah statement was confirmed in the Jerusalem Post (using the word "excellent" instead of "wonderful"); neither statement made it into the official press release from UNIFIL.

The news about the Hamas leader's son who converted to Christianity, and is now attacking Islam as a whole, is finally being believed by the PalArab press after his TV interviews.

PLO official Yasser Abed Rabbo is now referring to Hamas leader Zahhar as "speaking like he is mentally ill". Apparently there is a dispute concerning the PA continuing to pay salaries to people in Gaza.

Islamic Jihad is bragging about new rockets that they have been developing during the "calm. " (They've also enlisted CNN in this PR push; here's how the CNN reporter described the "factory":

The "factory" is anything but; it's a tiny room with rockets lining the walls and masked men trying to light a fire from a gas canister to heat the explosives.

First, the lighter doesn't work, then there's a gas leak and the room becomes filled with suffocating gas.

You hear of unexplained explosions in Gaza from time to time, euphemistically called "workplace accidents." That thought is enough to make us squeeze out of the room and wonder whether we've gotten just a little too close to the story.

Egypt considers a planned rail line between Haifa, Ashdod and Eilat to be a threat to the Suez Canal, as freight trains can move huge amounts of material between the Mediterranean and the Gulf of Aqaba in 6-12 hours.

More and more Muslims are warning against Jewish plots to take over and destroy the Al Aqsa mosque on the Temple Mount, claiming that plans for the Third Temple by various religious groups are being studied by the Israeli government. One said despairingly that "it could be argued that the city of Jerusalem is already Jewish."

UPDATE: Another Helles family member died from his wounds from Hamas' attack two weeks ago. The 2008 PalArab self-death count is now at 149.

Friday, August 01, 2008

At least 5 Palestinian Arabs were killed and 14 injured when a smuggling tunnel being dug collapsed in Rafah.

Also, a 65-year old Khan Younis man died of a heart attack while witnessing his son being beaten by Hamas terrorists who entered his home.

An Al-Quds terrorist was injured in a "work accident" when a bomb exploded in his home.

The 2008 PalArab self-death count is now at 132.

UPDATE:
The tunnel didn't collapse while being built, the Egyptians blew it up, so the count is back to 126 for the moment.

Tuesday, July 22, 2008

A 24-year old Hamas man was killed when the bomb he was working with exploded a bit earlier than he expected. Of course, he was home at the time and he also injured a baby and a 17-year old with the same last name as his.

Hamas said that he was on a "special Jihad mission," which means that Hamas is actively planning terror attacks during the "truce."

A wedding in the Sheikh Radwan neighborhood of Gaza City turned into a fight, and 15 were injured in the melee as happy guests grabbed any sharp objects they could to try to kill members of the other family. Palestinian Arabs often treat funerals as weddings and weddings as battlefields.

Hamas abducted a woman in Beit Lahia.

The 2008 PalArab self-death count is now at 115.

Friday, July 11, 2008

A Hamas member was killed in an "internal explosion" this morning.

Egypt found another large cache of ammunition and explosives in the Sinai already packaged up to be smuggled to Gaza.

Hamas abducted two Fatah members in southern Gaza and three others in Beit Hanoun.

Fatah denied that the Al Aqsa Brigades shot two Qassams at Israel yesterday, as opposed to the Al Aqsa Brigades who actually took responsibility. This is how Fatah maintains deniability - every statement attributed to Al Aqsa is just some people who are pretending to be Al Aqsa, you see.

Hamas and Fatah are meanwhile increasing their rhetoric about each other; each accusing the other of collaborating with Israel and saying how the others' actions help the Zionist enemy. Mahmoud Abbas called Khaled Meshaal a "liar."

The 2008 PalArab self-death count is now at 108.
