Another story of how little Israel cares about Palestinian lives:

Two people were killed and a third was in critical condition after falling into a pit in the northern village of Deir al-Asad on Sunday.

Two of the men were firefighters who fell into the hole during an attempt to extract the third, a Palestinian laborer who had earlier plunged inside and lost consciousness.

The firefighters were pulled from the eight-meter-deep hole by other rescue personnel at the scene, according to a Magen David Ambulance service statement.

Medics tried to revive them while they were being taken to Nahariya’s Galilee Medical Center in critical condition, MDA said.

One of them was later declared dead. He was named as Adnan Assad, 40, from Beit Jann.

Rescue workers at the scene also pulled the Palestinian man, in his 20s, from the hole. He was also taken to the hospital in critical condition and was declared dead several hours later.

According to police, he was a Palestinian laborer staying in the country illegally.
Two firefighters risked their lives - and one paid the ultimate price - to save a Palestinian.

And notice that the Israeli firefighter was an Arab himself - working on helping people alongside his Jewish colleagues. There is no distinction between them.

In other words, reality is completely different from the lies you see in the anti-Israel media.

But anyone who cares to know the truth already was aware of this.

Adnan Assad was a 40 year old father of three, including a two month old baby. May his memory be a blessing.

In my last post, I noted that  UN’s High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk was upset that the Jenin raid on terror infrastructure earlier this week went beyond "law enforcement," which he (falsely) claimed is all Israel is allowed to do to combat militants under international law.

This morning, Israeli police from the Yamam counter-terrorism unit tried law enforcement in Nablus. Al Jazeera, which cannot be accused of pro-Israel bias, reported the operation this way:

Two Palestinian youth have been killed after Israeli forces raided the occupied West Bank city of Nablus, officials said.

The raid took place early Friday morning, with some locals describing it as an “invasion”, and resulted in the deaths of Hamza Maqbool and Khairi Shaheen, according to Al Jazeera correspondent Alan Fisher.

Israeli forces raided the city in search of the two men, one confirmed to be affiliated with the al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigade, said Fisher, reporting from the Occupied West Bank city of Ramallah.

The men were tracked down to a house in old Nablus. Israeli forces then used loudspeakers to ask the men to surrender themselves, Fisher said.

They were met with the return of improvised explosive devices, which prompted the Israeli army to call for more reinforcements, he added.

“It appears there was some sort of confrontation between the two men in the house and the Israeli army, and the two men in the house were shot dead,” he said.

The men were suspected of carrying out a shooting attack against police this week, according to Israel’s military.
Israeli police cordoned off the area to avoid any danger to civilians. It called on them to surrender. They responded with throwing explosives. Only then did the Israeli forces respond with deadly force.

Here's what Al Jazeera didn't report:

The men attempted a drive-by shooting of Israeli police on Wednesday.

The men were not "youth" but members of Fatah's Al Aqsa Brigades, Hamza Moqbel (34) and Khairy Shaheen (32.)

And other militants in Nablus attacked the Israeli forces during the operation.

But that is not the narrative that the Palestinian Authority wants the world to know.

Their official English-language news agency Wafa made up a story that these men, heroic fighters in Arabic, were trying to surrender when they were brutally murdered:
Israeli military units forced their way into the Old Town and cordoned off a house amid the heavy firing of live fire while demanding two youths to surrender. Israeli soldiers opened fire heavily and directly at the youths the second they came out and agreed to surrender, fatally shooting them. They were identified as Hamza Maqbool, 32, and Khairi Shaheen, 34.
The more you research the details of Israel's counterterrorism operations, the more you see how careful they are to not only adhere to the law, but also to go out of their way to minimize civilian harm when often confronting heavily armed terrorists.

But Palestinian propagandists give a completely different story - and the international media often parrots their lies, despite their long track record of literally making things up.

It is not unbiased to favor one side of the story when that side has a better record of telling the truth than the other. But the media, wanting to paint one side as victims, does the opposite.

Consistently.

The official Palestinian Wafa news agency reports:

The Palestinian Presidency condemned the continued storming of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque by settlers, under the protection of the Israeli occupation police .

Today, Tuesday, presidential spokesperson Nabil Abu Rudeineh said that the settlers' continued storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque, under the protection of the occupation forces, comes within the framework of the Israeli escalation against our people, their land and their holy sites, and an attempt to impose a new fait accompli that we will never allow .

He warned that the continuation of these escalatory practices against our Islamic and Christian holy sites would lead to more tension and violence and an explosion of the situation.

Clearly this is the biggest problem for the Palestinians, given that this is a daily headline in their newspapers.

Luckily, Wafa included a video showing what exactly it looks like when "Jewish settlers stormed Al Aqsa" on Tuesday morning.

Be prepared to be shocked at the wanton disrespect for the holy site, as Jews quietly walk about and avoid playing respectful soccer and parkour.

Comments on this video include, "Oh God, take revenge on them."

The Palestinian foreign ministry was also disgusted by this video of families peacefully walking, issuing this statement on Tuesday:

The Palestinian ministry of foreign affairs has warned against the provocative incursions by Jewish extremist settlers on a daily basis into the Old City of Jerusalem and the consecration of Talmudic Judaic prayers in the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque and its courtyards.

These "moderates" who cannot stomach Jews quietly walking around the holiest Jewish site cannot be regarded as people who want to have peace with Jews.

Ramallah News reports:
Member of the Fatah Revolutionary Council, Osama al-Qawasmi, announced the agenda of President Mahmoud Abbas, while he was in New York, to participate in the meetings of the United Nations General Assembly.

The goal of President Abbas's meetings before his expected speech is to expose Israel's crimes, to inform the international community in the latest developments, and to present the Palestinian vision for the solution and the steps that the Palestinian leadership will take.

He pointed out that the Palestinian leadership held a series of round-the-clock meetings with heads of state, foreign ministers, and international institutions to put them in a picture of the situation and the political impasse it has reached.
How successful has Abbas been so far in arranging these meetings?

Here is a list of everyone he met with so far, as of Wednesday night:

Ronald Lauder of the World Jewish Congress
The Prime Minister of Spain
The Secretary General of the UN
The head of the ICRC
The king of Jordan
The Foreign Minister of Norway
The President of Nigeria
The Foreign Minister of Algeria
A group of Palestinian Americans

This is not exactly an All Star team of world leaders. And it also isn't exactly "around the clock."

(UPDATE: On Thursday, Wafa reported that Abbas met with some other leaders during a reception at the American Museum of Natural History. They included Libyan President Mohamed Al-Manfi, UK Prime Minister Liz Truss, and Prime Minister of Malta Robert Abella. It is difficult to know whether his "meeting" with Truss was a handshake.)

The world still pays lip service to supporting the Palestinian cause, but the reality is that their intransigence, support for terror and division has turned most nations off.

The main advantage for the Palestinians is modern antisemitism, as we see in human rights groups and the "progressive" crowd. That isn't petering out at all - it continues to grow.

Mahmoud Abbas told Wafa News Agency that he plans to tell the world how heroic the terrorists who are in Israeli prisons are in his address to the UN in September.

"The presidency affirmed that the Palestinian people and their leadership stand with the heroic prisoners in their battle in which they defend the dignity and sanctities of their people," the statement said.

The statement went on, "President Mahmoud Abbas is constantly following the suffering of the heroic prisoners in the prisons of the occupation, and that their issue is at the top of the agenda along with the right of return, the state and self-determination. ...These prisoners are heroes and symbols of the Palestinian people. We are proud of them and their steadfastness and adherence to the justice of their cause."

Palestinian immorality is so entrenched, so much a part of their ethos, that no one blinks at the demand that terrorists be released so they can attack Jews again. So much so that Abbas knows he can say this to the entire world without criticism.

Notice that releasing the prisoners and the fictional "right of return" to destroy the Jewish state are listed before statehood in his list of demands. Because killing Jews and destroying Israel are higher priorities for the "moderate" Abbas than actual statehood.

From the official Palestinian  Wafa news agency:

President Mahmoud Abbas today declared a 30-day state of emergency in Palestine to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.

The state of emergency was first declared in March 2020 after the discovery of the first cases of coronavirus in the Palestinian territories.

The state of emergency gives the government the power to act in any way it deems necessary to combat the pandemic.
I have not seen any articles about a new wave of Covid-19 in the West Bank. There has been a slight uptick in the last couple of weeks, but the rate is way below Israel's. At its recent peak there have been two deaths a week.

As far as I can tell, he is not automatically extending an old state of emergency every 30 days. According to Xinhua:
The state of emergency was first declared in March 2020 after the discovery of the first coronavirus cases in the Palestinian territories. It was last extended or re-declared in January this year, local media reported.

Under the state of emergency, the government is empowered to take any step it deems necessary to fight the pandemic.
I cannot find a single Palestinian news site that questioned this announcement. They just parroted it. They didn't even elaborate on it, showing a rise in cases or in deaths.

And on Mahmoud Abbas' Facebook page, the announcement was greeted with Soviet-style unanimous praise for his great insight and wisdom:

If there was a free press, people would be asking questions why Abbas just added emergency powers on top of his already dictatorial powers over the executive, judicial and legislative branches of Palestinian government.

World leaders and media still treat the Palestinian president and his government as if they are rational leaders. If anyone would read their own media and government websites for a couple of weeks with a critical eye, the levels of dysfunction would be obvious. And there is something very rotten about this "state of emergency."

Sunday was the anniversary of the 1969 attempt by Denis Michael Rohan, a mentally ill Australian Christian, to burn the Al Aqsa Mosque.
He told police his study of the Bible had convinced him that God wanted him to destroy the mosque.

At his trial he said he was trying to hasten the return of Jesus Christ, fulfilling the will of God communicated to him through the Bible.

"God told me that because I have obeyed him, I will be lifted up above the Earth and God shall bring all the maidens of Israel to me to bear offspring to God's glory," he told the court.

Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas issued a statement that threatened a global war if Israel "harms" Al Aqsa, and linked the 1969 arson with Jews visiting the Temple Mount. The official Palestinian Wafa news agency wrote:

The Presidency said: “Infringing upon the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque and all our Islamic and Christian sanctities means igniting a religious war whose serious consequences and repercussions no one can bear, not only on the region, but on the whole world, calling on the international community to intervene to prevent this in order to save international stability and security.”

She indicated that Al-Aqsa and all the holy sites in the occupied city of Jerusalem are still targeted by the Israeli occupation and settlers, stressing that the policy of incursions constitutes a continuation of the crime of burning Al-Aqsa and a continuation of the plan to Judaize the city and prejudice its sanctities .

Today, August 21, coincides with the 53rd anniversary of the burning of Al-Aqsa Mosque by the Jewish extremist Denis Michael, which comes in light of the continuation of the daily Israeli attacks and violations against Al-Aqsa and its desecration, by sponsoring the settlers’ visits and holding their provocative Talmudic prayers.

Abbas' antisemitism isn't only his comparing the lives of Palestinians to the Holocaust. His antisemitism can be seen every single day, in statements like this, that declare that respectful Jewish prayer on the holiest Jewish site is an excuse to start a war. It is claiming, year after year, that a mentally ill Christian sheep shearer is a Jewish extremist and part of a Jewish conspiracy to destroy Islamic holy places. This is a direct continuation of the rhetorical attacks against Jews planning to destroy Al Aqsa that the Nazi-collaborating Mufti said a hundred years ago.

The English Wafa site, of course, doesn't publish these explicit lies, incitement and hate against Jews. This daily Jew-hatred and incitement is meant for a Palestinian audience, not for the world to see. The international media plays its part, not bothering to report on the explicit antisemitism of the Palestinian "moderate" leader that is spouted every day and that can be seen in official Palestinian communication in Arabic.

What Abbas says in Ramallah stays in Ramallah; it is only news when he forgets himself and spreads the same hate in Europe.

Mahmoud Abbas has made many trips around the world over the years. I have never seen a crowd greet him upon his return, let alone with the enthusiasm that he received upon returning from his trip to Germany on Thursday.

What makes this trip different?

It was Abbas' antisemitic statement that Palestinians have gone through "50 holocausts" from Israel. The rally was to show support as the world condemned him.

The official Palestinian Wafa news agency reports (Arabic version only):

Our Palestinian people received President Mahmoud Abbas, this evening, Thursday, with a huge and solemn reception, as the Palestinian masses turned around on the outskirts of the road the president passed through near the northern entrance to the city of Al-Bireh, returning from an official visit to Germany, to confirm his positions which was confirmed on his trip, which reflects the aspirations and dreams of our people .

This reception came after popular public calls to receive the president, and the emphasis on our people's support for his statements and political stances .

Those lining the road carried pictures of the president with the words, "You are not alone, Mr. President."

The Secretary of the Revolutionary Council of the Fatah movement, Majid Al-Fatiani, said that this reception is a stand of loyalty to Abu  Mazen, who carried the message of the Palestinian people, their concerns and history with all boldness and courage, armed with the will of the people and the Palestinian national memory, which is still full of Zionist criminality.

He continued, "Why are the Israelis angry? Were we accomplices in their massacres? Rather, they were the ones who drowned us in our blood in dozens of massacres over 74 years."

He added, "The president told the truth and confronted the world with it..."

In turn, the Secretary of the Fatah movement in Ramallah, Muwaffaq Sahweil, said that the rally came to confirm that everything the president stated in his speech, statements and positions represent the Palestinian people.

This was no spontaneous demonstration, but one organized by Mahmoud Abbas' own Fatah party, as every speaker was from Fatah.

Which shows that his "apology" wasn't an apology. Abbas is a wily politician and he knows that his antisemitism is a political asset among his people.

What he said in Germany wasn't a dog whistle to extremist Palestinians - it was a bullhorn to mainstream Palestinians, who have the highest rate of antisemitism in the world. His political party isn't even pretending that his words were embarrassing or offensive. Jew-hate is a feature, not a bug, of the "moderate" Palestinians.

That is a much bigger story than Abbas' repeated and consistent antisemitism over the decades. Even when Abbas leaves the scene, the Jew-hate of the Palestinians will remain, and no one is doing anything about it.

This is the most under-reported story in the Middle East.

The official Palestinian Wafa news agency reports:
The head of the State of Palestine Mahmoud Abbas spoke about the need to stop violations against Al Aqsa Mosque, stressing that it is a red line that can not be tolerated in the face of the suffering of daily attacks and violations by the occupation forces and settlers.
The PA Ministry of Information says that any Jews that visit the holiest spot in Judaism are doubling their "terrorism" by visiting during Ramadan, that Israel is "waging war on holy sites" and is disregarding the feelings of Muslims by entering the site. The ministry requested that UNESCO put pressure on Israel to stop its "religious terrorism" and "prevent the establishment of Talmudic rituals in the Haram al Sharif."

Nothing is being said against Christians peacefully visiting the site. Only Jews must be banned, and now Abbas is saying that such a ban on Jews is a red line before any peace agreement is made.

Abbas is demanding that the world support his antisemitism as a prerequisite for "peace."

This joins his demand that Israel release all Arab terrorists from prison before any "peace" agreement could be signed.

Which means that Abbas is telling the world that the state that he is demanding will enforce terror-supporting and antisemitic policies.

And still not one Western nation or major Western media outlet is willing to publicly call their "moderate peacemaker" out for what he explicitly says.

The Ministry of Information also complained about the fact that during the Shavuot holiday, Muslims are not allowed to visit the "Ibrahimi Mosque" in Hebron. This is a long standing agreement where the Cave of the Patriarchs is used exclusively by either Jews or Muslims for an equal number of days every year, and the spaces are divided between Jews and Muslims the rest of the year.

When Abbas says he wants a return to the "status quo" on the holy sites, he means the status quo of when Jordan didn't allow a single Jew to visit any of Judaism's holy sites in Jerusalem, Hebron, Bethlehem or elsewhere.

Antisemitism is part and parcel of the Palestinian Authority's official policies.
