  • Elder of Ziyon
From the Buffalo Courier Express, October 1, 1859 ·Page 3:

I cannot corroborate any custom of decorating a synagogue with flowers or garlands on Rosh Hashanah.

It appears that the writer mixes up Rosh Hashanah with Shavuot, which has such a custom. If there was such a custom among Spanish and Portuguese Jews in the West Indies, I cannot find any record of it.

Apparently, it is not only modern AI that hallucinates.

Anyway, wishing you all a sweet and happy New Year, a year of joy, security, unity and victory over our enemies.

I will not be blogging until Monday.

Elder of Ziyon - حـكـيـم صـهـيـون

This blog may be a labor of love for me, but it takes a lot of effort, time and money. For 20 years and 40,000 articles I have been providing accurate, original news that would have remained unnoticed. I've written hundreds of scoops and sometimes my reporting ends up making a real difference. I appreciate any donations you can give to keep this blog going.
