From Ian:

Caroline Glick: Ilhan Omar & Co. Were Elected Because of Their Racism, Not In Spite of It
Hoyer as well as Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Elliot Engel (D-NY)are strongly pro-Israel. Pelosi, while less outspoken, has never been a foe of the Jewish state or of American Jews who support Israel and seek to secure continued bipartisan support for a strong U.S. alliance with the Middle East’s only democracy.

And yet, all of these leaders gave a pass to a woman who effectively said that American Jews exert malign and all-powerful influence over the Congress with their “Benjamins,” (which we now all know, thanks to Omar’s slur, refers to $100 bills).

What gives?

To find the answer it is necessary to look in two directions – first to former president Barack Obama’s consigliere, Valerie Jarrett.

By all accounts, Jarrett is the closest person to the former president. As a practical matter, it is difficult to imagine that the views she expresses contradict those of the former president even if, from time to time, he strikes a more moderate public stance than Jarrett.

Jarrett is an outspoken supporter of Omar. In a series of tweets, Jarrett has not only supported Omar, she has gushed that Omar represents the future of the Democratic party. On January 3, when Omar was sworn into office, Jarrett tweeted, “You are the change in Congress we have been waiting for. Thank you Ilhan Omar for your willingness to jump with both feet into the arena! Many in the country are both counting on you and have your back!”

In other words, Omar – and Tlaib and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio Cortez (D-NY), whom Jarrett also supports – are the legitimate heirs of Obama’s Democratic Party, as far as his closest and most powerful advisor is concerned. They aren’t marginal figures, radicals with no real links to the party’s power structures. Omar, as well as Tlaib and Cortez, reflect the interests and positions of the most powerful faction in the Democratic Party – the Obama faction.

When seen in this light, the congressional Democratic leadership’s decision to respond to Omar’s latest assault on Jewish Americans and the Jewish state by smacking her with a wet noodle indicates that they are mere figureheads. They have less power than Omar does. Because, as Jarrett told Omar the antisemite, Jarrett, (and by inference, Obama), has her back.

Democrat Identity Politics allow Jew-Haters to seep through the cracks
There are all kinds of Nazis. The worst ones are the Hitlers, the Eichmanns, the Goerings, the Streichers, the ones who went on trial at Nuremberg. And then there are the lower-level Jew-haters who never rise to that level but comparably harbor hate deep within their souls. Thus, Jew-haters take different forms, but they all share that same deep-rooted visceral hate that somehow ultimately targets “the Jews.” Some hate “the Jews” because of a landlord, and others hate “the Jews” because of a tenant. Some hate “the Jews” because of the same kinds of liberals that so many Jews ourselves cannot abide, and others hate “the Jews” because of conservatives like Sheldon Adelson and the comparative political conservatism of Israel’s and the growing conservatism of the Jews of England. Some blame “the Jews” for Communism (Karl Marx, Trotsky) and others blame “the Jews” for capitalism (the Rothschilds, Milton Friedman). It is what it is.

But what now is unfolding in the Democrat Party — the party that always speaks of “racism” and “sexism” and “dog whistles,” and that finds racism and this-ism and that-ism in every word that deviates from left-liberal dogma — is that real Jew-haters are starting to come out of the cracks. It is ironic that, even as Louis Farrakhan has termed Jews to be “termites,” his Democrat acolytes of hate are the ones emerging from the woodwork. We have beheld the emergence of Jew-haters (and White-haters and man-haters) Linda Sarsour and Tamika Mallory as the new leaders of the rapidly decomposing “The Women’s March.” And now two new Democrat Congressional representatives have emerged as outright Jew-haters: Rashida Tlaib of Michigan and Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, the once-“Nice” state where Keith Ellison, anti-Semite, likewise holds court.

Omar, who hails from Somalia, now tweets about Jews and money. Quite a thing when newcomers who themselves are members of demographic groups (Muslim, Somalian) that are labeled by stereotypes, begin stereotyping others. Omar is an irrepressible Jew-hater. The things she says and tweets about Israel, for example, are not simply the legitimate expressions of someone who articulates a political counterpoint. It is perfectly fine to disagree with this or that aspect of Israeli democracy or Israeli politics. For many years, I wrote passionately against Israel’s then-socialist economy. Nowadays my political concern is Israel’s continued failure to increase Jewish housing in Judea and Samaria and finally to annex all of Judea and Samaria — or at least the region known as “Zone C.”

In and of itself, it can be fair to express criticism of Israel. But when one criticizes Israel as a cover for going after Jews, typically reflected by holding Israel to an insanely higher standard that is not expected of any other country, then — ding! ding! ding! — we have uncovered a Jew-hater. When someone has no problem with the state of human rights in Saudi Arabia, Putin’s Russia, China, North Korea, Venezuela, Afghanistan, Syria, Yemen, Iran, Erdogan’s Turkey, and the like — but demands uniquely that Israel be boycotted and sanctioned, and that investments in companies that deal with Israel be divested, we have not “anti-Zionism” but “anti-Semitism.” It is like saying “I am not against Catholicism. I only despise the Pope and the Vatican and the College of Cardinals and the Archbishops and Bishops and nuns and the Eucharist. But I have nothing against Catholicism.” Zionism, like kosher dietary rules, is part of Judaism.
Where Are Feminist Democrats on Afghan Women?
Protecting women has been a big part of the American effort in Afghanistan. We’ve spent more than $1.5 billion on it since 2001, opening girls’ schools, securing the place of women in Afghan politics, and setting up various projects to keep the issue at the forefront of Afghan development. That’s to say nothing of the fact that fighting the Taliban means checking its brutal Committee for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice.

All this raises a question: Why did so many Democrats who’ve declared themselves as 2020 presidential candidates refuse to oppose President Trump’s terrible plan to make peace with the Taliban and withdraw U.S. forces? Earlier this month, Cory Booker, Kamala Harris, Elizabeth Warren, and Kirsten Gillibrand voted against a bill that condemned Trump’s plan.

In Afghanistan, an empowered Taliban and the absence of American troops would mean a future that’s decidedly not female. We know Trump’s thinking on this. He doesn’t believe that protecting women from a hellish life under the Taliban is worth American military action. But all these feminist Democrats? If they explicitly agree with the president on that point, they should be made to say so.

MP says UK’s Labour ‘institutionally anti-Semitic’ as 7 lawmakers quit party
Seven MPs from Britain’s opposition Labour Party on Monday announced they were breaking away and forming an independent group in protest of the party’s failure to stamp out anti-Semitism and its support for Brexit.

“This has been a very difficult, painful but necessary decision,” one of the MPs, Luciana Berger, said at a hastily arranged press conference in London, calling the party “institutionally anti-Semitic.”

“I am leaving behind a culture of bullying, bigotry and intimidation,” she added.

Earlier this month Berger, who is Jewish, faced a no confidence vote, later canceled, by local party members who said she was “continuously criticizing” leader Jeremy Corbyn amid the ongoing row over anti-Semitism in the party.

The lawmakers who made the announcement are Berger, Chuka Umunna, Chris Leslie, Angela Smith, Mike Gapes, Gavin Shuker and Anne Coffey.

“The Labour party has turned its back on the British public, their hopes and ambitions,” Shuker said, referring to the Brexit controversy.

Many Labour lawmakers are unhappy with the party’s direction under Corbyn, a veteran socialist who took charge in 2015 with strong grassroots backing.

They accuse him of mounting a weak opposition to the Conservative government’s plans for leaving the European Union, and of failing to stamp out a vein of anti-Jewish prejudice in the party.

The fight from within the Labour Party has failed and we applaud the seven Labour MPs who have today drawn a line in the sand
Following years of torment for the Jewish community, there has been a significant departure of seven Labour MPs, Chuka Umunna, Luciana Berger, Chris Leslie, Angela Smith, Mike Gapes, Gavin Shuker and Ann Coffey, from the Labour Party over antisemitism.

Gideon Falter, Chairman of Campaign Against Antisemitism, said: “The once fiercely anti-racist Labour Party has become institutionally antisemitic under the leadership of Jeremy Corbyn. He had every opportunity to tackle antisemitism within his Party, but his failure to do so and his appalling personal choices during his political career should leave nobody in any doubt that he himself is an antisemite.

“Many Labour MPs and members implored Mr Corbyn to act and gave him an unreasonably generous amount of time to act. He has not acted and he will not act. Moreover, those who have been swept into positions of power behind Mr Corbyn have shown that they have no intention of addressing antisemitism and instead will wield their power to obstruct the fight against antisemitism.

“The fight from within the Labour Party is dead. We applaud the seven Labour MPs who have today drawn a line in the sand.

“They have decided that if they must choose between the political Party that they have given their lives to build, and the cause of anti-racism, then they must side with the anti-racists against their Party. We are thankful for the solidarity and leadership that they have shown.”

Recently, former Labour MPs Frank Field and Ivan Lewis also resigned the whip over antisemitism in the Labour Party.
Poll Reveals One Third of British Voters Believe Labour Party Leader Jeremy Corbyn Is Antisemitic, Only 24 Percent Believe He Isn’t
A new poll has revealed that a third of British voters believe controversial Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn is an antisemite.

According to The Sunday Times, a YouGov poll shows that 34 percent of voters consider Corbyn antisemitic, while 32 percent said they didn’t know. Only 24 percent said unequivocally that he is not. Asked if the Labour Party as a whole is antisemitic, 24 percent of those surveyed answered yes.

The Jewish Labour Movement’s spokesperson called the numbers “deeply depressing,” and said, “Hundreds of thousands of voters have made up their minds that Labour is a racist party that they can’t support.”

Since Corbyn was elected leader of Labour in 2015, the party has been wracked by antisemitism scandals, several implicating Corbyn himself. Former UK chief rabbi Jonathan Sacks has compared him to the late Enoch Powell, a notoriously racist British politician. Polls have shown more than 80 percent of British Jews consider Corbyn an antisemite.

The YouGov poll results came a day after former Labour vice-chairman Michael Dugher announced he was leaving the party because of its “repeated failure to adequately tackle anti-Semitism.”
Corbynists: Churchill as villain, Hamas as friend
There is something sinister and sick about Jeremy Corbyn and his pro-Islamic Marxist clique.

Corbyn's deputy and shadow chancellor, John McDonnell, just called Winston Churchill “a villain”. Former foreign secretary Boris Johnson demanded he withdraw the comment, while Churchill's grandson Nicholas Soames branded the attack “foolish and stupid”.

Writing on Twitter, Johnson – author of a book on the wartime leader – declared: “Winston Churchill saved this country and the whole of Europe from a barbaric fascist and racist tyranny and our debt to him is incalculable”. Soames also said: “I think my grandfather’s reputation can withstand a publicity-seeking assault from a third-rate, Poundland Lenin”.

Churchill's name and monumental history will survive to McDonnell's idiotic comments.

The problem lies elsewhere. Those who brand Churchill “a villain” are the same Corbynist scoundrels who do not hesitate to call Hamas and Hezbollah terrorists “friends”, who lay flowers on the graves of the Palestinian terrorists who butchered the Israeli athletes in Munich, who support the boycott of Israel and the Islamist NGOs, among other diabolical episodes.
'Blatantly anti-Semitic': That's what Britain’s most senior Jews called Team Corbyn. How did it come to this? In the final part of his explosive book unmasking the real Corbyn, TOM BOWER traces the roots of his anti Zionism to his very first job
Immersed in an alien world, the young Corbyn had no time for those seeking self-improvement – to fulfil the dream of moving from East End slums to North London’s suburbs.

Since he disdained materialism, culture and anything spiritual, he was an empty vessel, uneasy with a race complicated by its history of survival over 2,000 years of persecution.

Jews in London were the victims of discrimination by all classes, including the working class – a truth that did not quite fit Corbyn’s Marxist theory of history.

Few Labour MPs were more troubled by Jeremy Corbyn than Louise Ellman, elected in 1997 for Liverpool Riverside. A soft-spoken mother-of-two, she had joined the party at 18.

For years, it was seldom mentioned that Ellman was Jewish: at Westminster and in her constituency, her religion was irrelevant. That changed after Corbyn’s election in September 2015.

The membership of her constituency soared from 500 to 2,700, and at meetings the Corbynistas harangued her about Israel and Zionism. Older party members were disgusted by the anti-Semitic abuse. ‘It’s pretty nasty,’ Ellman reported to party headquarters in London. She blamed the revived Militant faction, now reincarnated as Momentum, for plotting to deselect her. No one at headquarters acknowledged her concern, which did not surprise her.
Australian Greens have two faces and one is the ugliest of bigots
The bigotry of the Greens has no place in Australia either. Sadly, the NSW Young Greens have learned the oldest hatred from their party organisation. A few years ago, they refused to attend a conference held at NSW Parliament House by the Australasian Union of Jewish Students. Labor and Liberal students attended.

There are plenty of reasons not to attend a bolshie student conference, but refusing to speak to or be near Australian Jewish students is anti-Semitism. As the AUJS said at the time, the boycott, under the cloak of the Palestinian problem, reduces all Australian Jewish students to one political issue 12,000km away. Not all Jews share the same views on any issue.

In recent months, neo-Nazi cowards hiding behind the Antipodean Resistance label have posted vile, bigoted and racist posters around Sydney and Melbourne. near schools, synagogues and other buildings.

They are the likely beasts who painted Nazi swastikas on a promenade wall at Sydney’s Bondi Beach at the weekend. Their active recruitment of more bigots is a moral monstrosity.

But let’s not kid ourselves. The organisational bigotry within the Greens is a slyer form of anti-Semitism.

On Holocaust Remembrance Day in April 2017, the NSW Young Greens posted a Venn diagram on Facebook stating that Liberals and Labor love “locking people in concentration camps”.

They’ve learned from their Greens elders to engage in abhorrent Holocaust minimisation, likening offshore processing to determine refugee status to concentration camps where millions of Jews were murdered.

If Di Natale and other Greens are appalled by bigotry and vile, racist behaviour, if they genuinely believe in tolerance and respect for people of different faiths, they need to flush out the anti-Semitism in their party.

Until then, the next time a Greens politician brags about their progressive credentials, remember the organisational bigotry by the Greens towards Australian Jews.

Right now, a vote for the Greens — primary or preference — is a vote for bigotry.
Rep. Omar’s Anti-Semitism is Just CAIR’s Anti-Semitism
Rep. Ilhan Omar defended the anti-Semitic Black Israelites hate group in January. In February, she was originally scheduled to speak at an Islamic Relief USA dinner alongside IRUSA’s Yousef Abdallah who had endorsed violence against Jews and described former Governor Chris Christie “down on his knees before the jewish lords and masters… only money makes stuff like this happen.”

Abdallah’s comments were very similar to the anti-Semitic Twitter slurs that got Omar in trouble.

That’s not a coincidence. Omar’s worldview, including her anti-Semitism, was shaped by a familiar network of Islamist organizations which control life for most Muslims in the United States.

In March, Rep. Omar is headed to California to speak at CAIR’s Los Angeles dinner. There she will appear alongside CAIR’s Florida boss Hassan Shibly who has defended Hamas and vocally praised Hezbollah. “Israel & it’s supporters are enemies of God and humanity!” he had tweeted.

Shibly has vocally defended Rep. Omar over her comments about Jews.

Rep. Omar’s comments about Jews are a commonplace CAIR talking point. Nihad Awad, the co-founder and executive director of CAIR, had made an even more explicit version of the same argument. “Who of Clinton’s advisors … is opposing the latest agreement with Iraq? Look at their names. Look at … their ethnic or religious or racial background.”

“The Jews plan to distort Islam’s image and have succeeded in their plans,” he later claimed.
Stop Whitewashing Ilhan Omar’s Antisemitism
“Strong language,” Winston Churchill once said, “is often used by weak men and it is never used more strongly than on a weak case.” The Washington Post’s opinion pages are filled with plenty of strong language about Israel and antisemitism — and correspondingly few facts.

With growing frequency, The Washington Post has published op-eds that effectively whitewash or obfuscate on antisemitism when it emanates from the left. The recent controversy over Ilhan Omar’s most recent antisemitic tweet offers several examples.

On February 10, the Democratic freshman congresswoman tweeted “It’s all about the Benjamins” to explain why some of her fellow members of Congress were condemning a previous tweet of hers that accused Israel of “hypnotizing the world.” When asked to clarify whom she was talking about, Omar replied “AIPAC!” Omar was stating that money — Jewish money — was buying the votes and opinions of her fellow members of Congress.

Numerous pundits and politicians — Democrat and Republican alike — condemned Omar’s comments for their use of the antisemitic stereotype that Jews exert unseemly political influence. As The Washington Post itself reported: “House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and the entire Democratic leadership on Monday condemned Rep. Ilhan Omar for suggesting that Israel’s allies in American politics were motivated by money rather than principle, an extraordinary rebuke of a House freshman in the vanguard of the party’s left flank.”

In a signed statement, Pelosi and other Democrats called Omar’s “use of anti-Semitic tropes and prejudicial accusations about Israel’s supporters” deeply offensive, and insisted on an apology.

White supremacist and Holocaust denier David Duke defended Omar. So did op-eds published in The Washington Post.
Ilhan Omar Is Funded by Israel-Hating BDS Promoters and PACs
Israel-hating Congresswoman Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) has repeatedly displayed deep-seated, dangerous antisemitism and hatred towards the Jewish state.

Rep. Omar falsely called Israel “evil” and an “apartheid regime.” She promotes anti-Israel boycotts, divestment, and sanctions (BDS) — the delegitimization and economic destruction of Israel — and lied to voters about her BDS position while running for Congress. She has never apologized for any of this.

The Democratic House leadership’s recent condemnations of Rep. Omar are an important first step, but they are not enough, especially because she immediately backtracked on her phony “non-apologies” by again defaming Jews and Israel.

From the outset, the Zionist Organization of America urged that Omar be removed from the House Foreign Relations Committee, which is a position that enables her to harm US-Israel relations and mainstream her virulent antisemitism. We are thankful that this week, Donald Trump called for Rep. Omar’s ouster from the committee, at a minimum.

Rep. Omar’s most recent antisemitic tweets — that a Jewish lobby organization (AIPAC) and money cause Congress to support Israel — are woefully wrong. Congress supports Israel because the American people, Jewish and non-Jewish, support Israel; it’s the moral thing to do, and both nations share democratic values and strategic interests.
Bennett: US congresswoman is an anti-Semite, ‘loud and clear’
Education Minister Naftali Bennett on Monday declared an unspecified US congresswoman an anti-Semite, in what appeared to be a response to a recent tweet by freshman Democrat Rep. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota suggesting that Jewish money was behind American elected officials’ support for Israel.

“There is a growing legitimacy to openly express anti-Semitism,” he told American Jewish leaders at a summit of the Conference of Presidents of American Jewish Organizations in Jerusalem. “This congresswoman is an anti-Semite, loud and clear.

“The single factor which can influence anti-Semitism, the increasing anti-Semitism, is the strength of the State of Israel,” Bennett continued. “The stronger Israel is, the more protected every Jew in the world is, regardless of their specific relationship with Israel.”

Omar, in her first term in the Congress, wrote last Sunday on Twitter that the American Israel Public Affairs Committee pays lawmakers to be pro-Israel, tweeting that congressional support is “all about the Benjamins” — a slang reference to $100 bills.
Pro-BDS congresswoman's website created by Israeli company
US Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib, an outspoken critic of Israel, has a website built by the Israeli-based Wix website builder platform.

The revelation was exposed by the Israel Advocacy Movement a British-based organization. Joseph Cohen, the founder of the movement posted a video Sunday displaying the source-code for the website which includes "Wix.com Website Builder."

"These people are ignorant of the incredible contribution Israel makes to the world," Cohen stated. "Israeli innovation makes the world a better place. The world's largest generic drug manufacturer [Teva] is in Israel, as are many medical breakthroughs that save countless lives."

Cohen also highlighted other anti-Israel activists such as Achmed Masoud, Said Durrah, George Abraham, and a host of pro-Palestinian college groups who all call to boycott Israel while using websites with the words "proudly created with Wix.com" at the bottom.

"These hollow threats of boycott are nothing but political stunts that could never be implemented," he added. "Could you imagine how many people would suffer because they were deprived of the medical breakthroughs and technological advances that come out of this small nation? It won't bring peace between Israelis and Palestinians. It's simply narcissistic self-gratifying virtue-signalling that makes the world a much more divided place."

BDS Movement Undermines South Africans
The trajectory taken by the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions Movement in South Africa (BDS-SA) to selectively discriminate against entrepreneurial and business opportunities by corporations linked to Israel, if not challenged, may lead to unwarranted job losses in South Africa.

With our unemployment rate remaining alarmingly high at 27%, the South African reality necessitates the need to focus on the economy and maintain trade relations with other countries that excel in certain vital economic aspects. This is in the best interests of the people of South Africa.

A few days ago, BDS-SA threatened to disrupt investments from Brimstone Investment Corporation that has committed to developing and improving South Africa's biggest dairy company, Clover. Why is BDS-SA so willing to sacrifice its fellow South African workers for its own self-serving position? The call by BDS-SA undermines the strides made by President Cyril Ramaphosa to attract vital foreign investment.

Palestinian Authority officials were recently seen sitting around a table with several juice bottles, all products from Israel. How does BDS-SA call on South African companies to boycott Israeli products while Palestinian leaders themselves are not boycotting those same products?

BDS-SA does not hold any electoral mandate and its lobbying must not be at the expense of the South African worker. It must encourage the people of Palestine to sit with the Israelis at the negotiation table.
Students at Oxford college call for kosher meat ban
A student association at Oxford University passed a non-binding motion to effectively ban all kosher meat.

The Junior Common Room, a student government association at Oxford’s Somerville College, called on the college to only serve meat that has been stunned before being killed, according to the BBC. That requirement would exclude kosher meat, which cannot be stunned before slaughter.

A spokesman for the college said the college is looking into the request, but will also be expanding its kosher and halal meat offerings.

“We want all our students to feel comfortable and well looked-after, including at meal-times,” the spokesman said, according to the BBC. “We are looking into expanding our provision of halal and kosher meat, and also providing more lactose-free, gluten-free and meat-free options, following a request by the JCR.”

The president of the university’s Jewish society, Nicole Jacobus, told the BBC that the vote harms diversity at Oxford.
Gay Muslim Comic Gone from Instagram After Indonesia Warning
An Instagram account that published comic strips depicting the struggles of gay Muslims in Indonesia has disappeared following a frenzy of outrage online in the world’s biggest Muslim nation.

The Ministry of Communications said the account under the username Alpatuni was pornographic, a violation of a law on information and electronic transactions. In a statement last week, the government said Instagram had “fulfilled” its request made in a warning letter for the account to be removed.

Instagram, however, said it had not removed the account. The company said there were many reasons an account may no longer be accessible, including the account holder deleting it, deactivating it or changing the username.

The comics depicted gay characters facing discrimination and abuse, which has become increasingly common in Indonesia since late 2015 when conservative politicians and religious leaders began a campaign of portraying lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people as a threat.

Local media, quoting the communications minister, reported that the ministry would block Instagram in Indonesia if the Alpatuni account wasn’t removed.
CNN, NBC agree to air ad for Oscar-nominated documentary about Nazi rally
CNN and MSNBC have each agreed to broadcast an ad that Fox News rejected for a documentary about a Nazi rally held in New York in 1939.

The filmmakers of “A Night at the Garden,” which has been nominated for an Oscar in the category of documentary short, confirmed to The Washington Post on Friday that the 30-second ad spot would air during “The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer” on CNN and “The Rachel Maddow Show” on MSNBC on Monday.

The documentary contains footage of the Nazi rally.

“We decided to dig deep and pay for television ads we weren’t planning to buy because we wanted to make the point that Fox News is out of the mainstream,” the movie’s director, Marshall Curry, told The Post, adding that he believed the network’s rejection of the ad was politically motivated.

NBCUniversal said the company had initially rejected the ad for MSNBC because an NBCUniversal standards group deemed the content too provocative, so the filmmakers added context with a title card that explains the footage is part of an Oscar-nominated film, the Post reported.

Fox declined to run the ad because it was “full of disgraceful Nazi imagery regardless of the film’s message and did not meet our guidelines,” ad sales president Marianne Gambelli said in a statement.
‘We Didn’t Know What Else Was Going to Come’: Rabbi Recalls Friday Night Window-Shattering Incident at Brooklyn Synagogue
The front window of a Chabad synagogue in Brooklyn was shattered by unidentified vandals on Friday night.

Rabbi Menachem Heller — the head of Chabad of Bushwick — was inside with his family and community members at the time of the incident.

“It was really scary,” he was quoted as saying by CBS New York. “We didn’t know what else was going to come after that.”

A police investigation has been opened in the case.

In a Facebook post, the rabbi wrote, “We face this unfortunate experience not with discouragement, but with solid determination: to continue celebrating our faith, sharing our rich heritage, and offering our culture in an inclusive and warm environment. At the same time, we acknowledge the disturbing and increasingly frequent incidents of hate and prejudice in our New York community and its destructive and divisive effects, especially on young people. We encourage each other and the public to stand up against it, whenever it occurs, whatever form it takes, and towards whomever it is directed. An attack on one of us is an attack on all of us.”

According to data compiled by the New York Police Department (NYPD), there was a significant spike in antisemitic hate crimes in 2018, with Jews being the most-targeted minority group in the city.
German drugmaker Merck sets up Israel incubator to tap into chip, sensor tech
The 351-year-old German pharmaceutical and chemicals firm Merck last week launched its newest incubator in Israel, called PMatX, which will support Israeli startup companies specializing in advanced electronic products including semiconductors and sensor technologies.

“This is our newest initiative in Israel to help startups and academic ideas in the material sciences to become real companies, and support them in their first steps to validate their technologies,” said Jasper Bos, senior vice president and managing director of M Ventures, the venture capital arm of the German giant that will be in charge of the incubator. “This fits into the mandate of M Ventures, to invest in groundbreaking technologies that lead to a paradigm shift in how we do business.”

Merck, with some 52,000 employees globally and total sales of €15 billion in 2017, makes a wide range of products, including biopharmaceutical therapies for cancer and MS, and liquid crystals for smartphones and LCD televisions. The founding family remains the majority owner of the publicly listed corporate group, which was established in 1668.

The new incubator, set up in Yavne, Israel, in August but officially launched this week, will run a budget of about €20 million over three years, and will invest in startups that focus on semiconductor and display crystal technologies. This is the second incubator Merck has set up in Israel and globally.
Israeli cyber hotline offers real-time solutions for the hacked
Israel has launched a cyber hotline, staffed mostly by veterans of military computing units, to enable businesses and private individuals to report suspected hacking and receive real-time solutions.

The 119 call-in number to the Computer Emergency Response Center (CERT) is being billed by Israel and cyber experts as a world first.

"Our job is to mitigate the damage as quickly as possible, to learn about the threats and to spread the knowledge where relevant," CERT director Lavy Shtokhamer told Reuters at the facility in the southern high-tech hub city of Beersheba.

"A cyberattack may not be limited only to property or financial damage. It can also threaten lives."

In some cases, Shtokhamer said, CERT will dispatch teams of experts to affected computer users at a few hours' notice.

At the center, 20 responder terminals face a bank of huge screens, one of which shows a world map with cyberattacks rendered as meteor-like strikes on Israel and the country of origin of computer servers used by the hackers.

When Reuters viewed the facility, these were in the northeastern United States, Western Europe and Indonesia – details Shtokhamer played down given hackers' use of proxy servers to mask their true locations.

He declined to elaborate on this. Ahead of the April 9 Knessest election, its officials have been reticent about the possibility of online influence campaigns of the kind Russia has been accused of waging in the West, or about Chinese cyberespionage.
With sights set on the moon, Israel to launch privately funded spacecraft Friday
Israel hopes to become the fourth country in the world to land a spacecraft on the moon, with the launch of the unmanned spacecraft Beresheet from Florida’s Cape Canaveral this Friday. If successful, the 160-kilogram (350 pounds without fuel), four-legged spacecraft will also be the smallest and cheapest spacecraft to land on the moon.

The $100 million (NIS 370 million) spacecraft is a joint venture between private companies SpaceIL and Israel Aerospace Industries, funded almost entirely from private donations from well-known Jewish philanthropists including South African billionaire Morris Kahn, Miriam and Sheldon Adelson, Lynn Schusterman, and others.

Previously, Russia (as the Soviet Union) and the United States have landed on the moon. China landed an unmanned spacecraft on the far side of the moon in 2013.

Beresheet will lift off from Cape Canaveral at approximately 3:45 a.m. IST on Friday (8:45 p.m. Thursday EST), catching a ride on one of Elon Musk’s SpaceX commercial space launches.

Once airborne, the spacecraft will detach from Musk’s Falcon 9 rocket after about half an hour and begin its seven-week journey to the moon. Beresheet will circle Earth six or seven times in a series of growing ellipses before jumping into the moon’s orbit on April 4.
PM Scott Morrison on 70 Years Diplomatic Relations: Australia & Israel

PM Scott Morrison on 70 Years Diplomatic Relations: Australia & Israel

Prime Minister Scott Morrison (ScoMo) praised the historical ties, friendship and shared values between #Israel and #Australia on the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations:

"On this anniversary we remember that Australia was central to the establishment of the State of Israel, chairing the committee that recommended the 1947 petition to the United Nations General Assembly, which then voted in favour of dividing the territory of Mandate Palestine.

Now, we did so did so because we did so because in the words of our then Prime Minister (Ben Chifley), we believed that 'the new nation of Israel will be a force of special value in the world community'. And its recognition was fair and just. This remains as true today as it was then.

That faith by those who went before us in Israel's potential has been proved many times over. Israel is a modern, liberal, democratic success story. A nation of immigrants with a free press, parliamentary democracy, financially prosperous, and the source of tremendous innovation in our world today.

Despite your success there are many in the world, today, who continue to seek to bully Israel and we won't be part of that. And we won't put up with it. And we will stand by Israel every step of the way.

Because when we see that, whether its at the United Nations or elsewhere; what we do is we call it out. Because we know, that the standard you walk past is of course the standard you accept."

Ron Gerstenfeld:
Thank you Mr. Prime Minister of #Australia, The Honorable Scott Morrison, for your greetings and kind message of friendship towards the State of #Israel marking the 70th anniversary of Diplomatic Relations between our two nations

This blog may be a labor of love for me, but it takes a lot of effort, time and money. For 20 years and 40,000 articles I have been providing accurate, original news that would have remained unnoticed. I've written hundreds of scoops and sometimes my reporting ends up making a real difference. I appreciate any donations you can give to keep this blog going.
