From Ian:

JPost Editorial: Hamas is a Palestinian ISIS
If Hamas is ISIS, we must treat them as such.

What was on display was the organization Hamas has always been, has always said it was, but which many chose to ignore: a fundamentalist, Islamist organization utterly committed, in word and deed, to the destruction of the State of Israel and the wanton slaughter of all Jews.

The world is recoiling at the savagery, which is reminiscent of that exhibited by ISIS and, in some ways, perhaps even worse.

Hamas is indeed the Palestinian ISIS, and Gaza is a territory held and controlled by the Palestinian ISIS. If that wasn’t obvious before, it is now.

The question, of course, is what can be done about it?

When ISIS rose to gruesome prominence and started sweeping across Iraq and Syria in 2014, the world mobilized in response. An international coalition led by the United States carried out a massive military campaign that succeeded in pushing back ISIS’s territorial gains and containing the threat it posed.

ISIS supporters were identified throughout the world, and they were deported from their countries of residence; in many cases, they were stripped of their citizenship. Bank accounts associated with ISIS were shut down, and their funding sources were choked off.

That is precisely what must happen to Hamas, the Palestinian ISIS, now.

While Israel is leading the military charge against Hamas, it must receive full and unequivocal support from its allies in the West, including military aid and assistance, if necessary. Those who express support for Hamas must be arrested, prosecuted, and, if necessary, deported from their countries of residence. Any entity found to be providing material support to Hamas must be shut down, and the organization’s sources of funding must be eliminated.

This is a war against a cruel and relentless enemy driven by bloodlust and hate. Hamas cannot be reasoned with. It cannot be contained. It must be resolutely defeated, and that defeat must be crushing and unforgiving.

That is Israel’s task in the days and weeks ahead. The world must have Israel’s back – if not for Israel’s sake then for its own.
The Moral Duty to Destroy Hamas
A mob of Islamist Arabs incited by Jew-hatred went door to door, broke into the homes of their victims, and slaughtered innocent men, women and children. These gangs raped, mutilated and tortured them while screaming "Kill the Jews!" That was 94 years ago, on Saturday, Aug. 24, 1929, in Hebron, when Arab riots ended with 133 Jews murdered.

The events are virtually the same as Saturday's Hamas attack on Israel. Why? There was no state of Israel in 1929. There were no "occupied" territories, no "settlers," no "blockade," no security fence, no checkpoints, nothing. The excuses of today's murderers did not exist at that time. What did exist? A deep, maniacal, murderous hatred of Jews - the same essential factor operating today, to which all other excuses are subservient.

The videos showing mass murder are there for the world to see, propagated by the assassins themselves. They use them to show their strength and prove Israeli weakness. To demonstrate to the Palestinian Arab population that the Jews can be killed like flies.

What does it say of a society that these monsters think this is a good way to mobilize the population? It screams of a deeply perverse and murderous culture, in love with death and destruction. It is the same culture that teaches toddlers to hate. The same society that pays wages to mass murderers and celebrates on the streets with sweets and shooting when Jews get killed.

Hamas needs to be destroyed for the same reason and by the same method that the Nazis were. Israel is entitled to do whatever it takes to uproot this evil residing next to it. Israel has a moral right to finish the job, and the West has a moral duty to support it.
Was Biden’s Speech as Pro-Israel as You Think?
There is only one word that mattered in President Joe Biden’s remarks on the terrorist attack on Israel—and it was a word he didn’t say.

For those who care about actual U.S. policy rather than feel-good schmaltz, the point of Biden’s speech was not the oft-repeated dubious anecdote about meeting with Golda Meir during the Yom Kippur War. Nor was it Biden’s rich declarations about how he was raised in synagogues—along with being raised in Puerto Rican communities and growing up in Black churches. Rather, the entire speech was centered around the absence of one word: Iran.

Biden’s glaring omission of Iran, the chief sponsor, funder, and weapons supplier of Hamas, and the intended beneficiary of its monstrous suicide attack, was an affirmation that his administration’s policies remain unchanged after a weekend of unprecedented horror in Israel. Namely, Biden still fully intends to continue providing cover for the Iranian regime, to whom he released $16 billion of held funds before the attack—in addition to the tens of billions more that the administration has gifted Iran by not enforcing sanctions on its oil sales.

Instead, the administration has rather bizarrely been expending all its diplomatic capital since the attack to avoid connecting Iran in any way to a massacre perpetrated by a terror group that Iran clearly funds, arms, trains and directs. The administration has expended particularly large amounts of energy responding to an inconvenient Wall Street Journal article that reported that the Iranians planned the attack in the joint operations room they have established in Lebanon (the existence of which Hezbollah media had announced in 2021 after the last Gaza war).

Responding to the Journal article, National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan told the press that they have absolutely no “confirmation”—zero, none—to back up the claim of Iranian foreknowledge, planning, or help in directing this particular attack. Yet in nearly the same breath, Sullivan called Iran “complicit” in Hamas’ attack. “They have provided the lion’s share of the funding for the military wing of Hamas. They provide training, they have provided capabilities, they have provided support, and they have had engagement in contact with Hamas over the years and years.” Come again? NSC spokesman John Kirby then added that there was nothing that suggests the Iranians were “witting, involved in the planning, or involved in the resourcing and the training that went into this very complex set of attacks over the weekend.”

Jonathan Tobin: Hamas atrocities explode the two-state myth
At last. After 17 years of diplomatic pressure from the United States to limit its responses to Hamas terrorism, it appears that Washington may be finally prepared to let Israel strike a decisive blow against the Islamist group in Gaza. The scale—the death toll now exceeds 1,200 murdered—and the depravity of the atrocities committed during the Oct. 7 assault seem to have convinced the Biden administration as well as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that a maintenance of the status quo with Hamas isn’t an adequate response.

But it hasn’t taken long for the people who have been influencing and steering America’s Middle East policies for the last generation and whose mistakes paved the way for this slaughter to be back preaching their familiar sermons about the need for Palestinian statehood. That such people are still being taken seriously—let alone touted as foreign-policy “wise men”—is mind-boggling, especially when few in Washington seem to recognize that the Hamas state in Gaza is proof that their formulations are wrong. It’s not just that the beliefs of these Islamists are incompatible with a two-state solution, something that even liberals now concede. Rather, it is that the two-state solution is incompatible with any vision of peace.

Giving Israel room to act
Biden’s remarks delivered at the White House on Oct. 10, in which he compared Hamas to ISIS and cited the horrific crimes committed by Hamas, were not merely passionate but seemed to be a green light for Israel to “respond.” Just how far the Americans will go along with a ground invasion of Gaza or at what point Biden will seek to halt Israel’s efforts to end the threat from the terrorists remains to be seen. But for the moment, Biden’s sentiments offer Netanyahu and his new unity government the room they need to act.

What exactly a ground assault on Gaza would mean is far from clear. Indeed, a press briefing by the prime minister’s office conducted on Oct. 11 merely promised that when Israel was done, Hamas would be left with “zero military capability and zero motivation to attack again.” That may fall short of the demands being voiced by many Israelis for a campaign that will end with Hamas finished, but Netanyahu is clearly keeping his options open.

For now, the focus of Israel’s supporters should be on making sure that Biden sticks to his promise to have Israel’s back. The rhetoric of support for Israel and recognition that Hamas cannot be granted a pass for its barbarism is loud, and for the most part, bipartisan. But the indications of the outlines of a post-war debate about what the next step for U.S. foreign policy ought to be are already being made clear. The desire on the part of the foreign-policy establishment for a return to an American strategy rooted in the patent nostrum of a two-state solution is already being heard.

While Biden has avoided mention of two states in the current context, others have not.
Melanie Phillips: An existential evil Israel's battle is a war for civilisation against barbarism
The president of the Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI) Yigal Carmon, has written of the Hamas genocidists:
The only appropriate comparison is to the Einsatzgruppen, the paramilitary death squads of the SS of the Nazi Germany, who were attached to the 4th Wehrmacht Army groups that invaded Poland and Russia in the outbreak of World War II. Their one and only mission was to murder Jews wherever they found them.

Carmon draws that analogy because the barbarism and depravity of those Hamas death squads — hunting down Jews because they were Jews in order to murder, rape, torture, publicly humiliate them and desecrate their bodies — was behaviour associated with the Nazis’ Final Solution and not inflicted upon the Jewish people on such a scale since the Holocaust.

But Hamas are also jihadis who subscribe to the Islamic fanaticism of the Muslim Brotherhood. Their brand of Islamic extremism — promoted also by Al Qaeda and ISIS — emerged during the early decades of the last century and fused Islamic theological holy war with Nazi ideology.

Their principal targets are the Jews, whom they accuse of being the cause of all the evils of the world. But they also intend to wipe out all non-Muslims — as well as not rigorous enough Muslims — including Christians.

A MEMRI video from December 2022 that has now resurfaced featured a co-founder of Hamas, Mahmoud al Zahar, who also once served as the Foreign Affairs Minister of the Palestinian National Authority, announcing:
We are not talking about liberating our land alone…The entire 510 million square kilometers of Planet Earth will come under [a system] where there is no injustice, no oppression, no Zionism, no treacherous Christianity and no killings and crimes like those being committed against the Palestinians, and against the Arabs in all the Arab countries, in Lebanon, Syria, Iraq and other countries.

Finally, in order to make the case for the existence of the State of Israel as a just cause it’s extremely important to understand the history of how it came into being. Yet this is still not fully understood, even by some of its supporters. It didn’t start, as so many believe, as a response to the Holocaust. It didn’t start, as Danny Finkelstein implied (perhaps inadvertently), with the 1947 UN resolution dividing the land into two states that was accepted by the Jews and rejected by the Arabs.

The rebirth of Israel started with Britain’s 1917 Balfour Declaration and then, properly, after the First World War. That was when the world’s great powers decided that the Jews should be resettled throughout their ancient homeland — then consisting of what is now Israel, the “West Bank” and Gaza (and until 1922, what is now Jordan) — for the simple reason that the Jews were the only people who had ever ruled this as their kingdom, and had never left it even after they were exiled from it.

I discussed this history in a segment of under 20 minutes on a Triggernometry podcast. This was reposted on X (Twitter) a few days ago and has gone viral. You can watch the segment by clicking on the video below, and you can watch the whole podcast here.

Perhaps then people may understand rather better why the unambiguous defence of Israel is a defence of civilisation against barbarism.

How October 7 Became the Biggest Jewish Story of Our Time
I’ve been hearing from stunned Jews on the left who often side with the Palestinians. They’re in shock, too. The atrocities of October 7 that have been gradually revealed day after day are simply too much. The very word “Palestinian” always had a certain victim cachet among the elite left. Let’s see how long it takes for the shock of the massacres to wear off and the sheen of that cachet to return.

For the great majority of Jews, it is surely this intense mix of disgust and shock that has made October 7 the biggest Jewish story of our time. We were shocked by the attacks that led to the Yom Kippur War in 1973. We’ve been disgusted before by horrific terrorist attacks. But we’ve never seen a savage volcano of violence like the one we saw on October 7.

One sign of the enormity of the story is the deluge of emails I’ve been receiving daily, with virtually every Jewish organization in the world releasing statements of solidarity, and many arranging missions to send assistance to Israel.

It’s obscene to look for silver linings while 1200 Jewish bodies are being buried in the holy land. But I was forced to do that yesterday when I spoke to my mother in Montreal and saw how despondent she was over the massacres. As I was walking to a pro-Israel rally at the United Nations, she could hear the noise of hundreds of Jews gathering to show their solidarity with Israel.

When we lost six million Jews eighty years ago, I told her, we couldn’t defend ourselves. We couldn’t fight back.

Now we can. You can hear all the Jews making noise, I told her.

Perhaps that noise makes the story even bigger.
Now is the time for unashamed Israel advocacy
We will answer the call. With Jewish pride. With Zionism.

There will come a time for mourning. For processing. For undoing the trauma that has – yet again – been inflicted upon us by our enemies. But now is the time for action. We must actively support Israel and her war effort. We will give Israel everything we have, which is less than it deserves.

We are at war. This is not a war we wanted. Nor is it one we started. But we will not ignore it. We will not pretend this existential threat isn’t real. We will fight with whatever resources we have at our availability. And this goes for Jews in the Diaspora too. We must fight. With our words. Our wallets and our hearts. Whatever we can fight with, we must fight.

The Jews are an extraordinary people. We are the most continuously persecuted minority in the history of humanity, and yet here we are in 2023 still fighting. We are not – as our enemies would hope – weak or powerless. In fact, we never have been. We survive to this day because of our strength. Because of our resilience. Our perseverance. And most importantly, our undying commitment to our Jewishness and to Israel.

We are the descendants of the Maccabees, the Bar-Kochba revolutionaries, the Warsaw Ghetto uprisers, the sons and daughters of 1948 and 1967. And so many more. Their bravery and courage live on in us today.

What is happening in Israel is unprecedented. It must shake us to our core. And it must lead us to strengthen and reinforce our commitment to her and to the Jewish people.

There is no time for ambiguity. There is Israel. There is Jewishness. And there is the fight to protect both.

Am Yisrael Chai. Long live the people of Israel – always.
Sherri Mandell: The world finally sees this evil, will it accept Israel’s response?
What the world just learned about cruelty, my family knew 22 years ago. So did other victims of the two Intifadas. On May 8, 2001, terrorists targeted and murdered two innocent children – my 13-year-old son Koby and his friend Yosef cut school for the day, hiking in the canyon near our home, having a day of freedom, similar in a way to what the party-goers at the Nova rave were trying to do, let loose and let go – enjoy life. The boys were murdered in the canyon. “Two Jewish Teenagers Are Beaten to Death,” said the headline in the New York Times. No perpetrator, no terrorists, just a passive verb. Koby and Yosef were bludgeoned to death with rocks the size of bowling balls.

Later the New York Times called the killers of innocent Israelis like my son Palestinian militants. Not terrorists. Koby and Yosef’s death was merely part of a cycle of violence. And as the number of victims of the Second Intifada that began in 2000 piled up, the New York Times and other media outlets continued to insist that killings like my son’s were not terrorism. No, the mainstream media claimed, my son was killed by freedom fighters or more innocuously, gunmen.

But the Intifada was waged on innocent civilians – women, children, old people, people waiting for busses. The Second Intifada lasted for more than five years, from 2000 to 2005. More than 1,000 Israelis were murdered. Almost every day there was an atrocity. The Fogel family was murdered in their home, their 12-year-old daughter came home from a youth group activity to find her parents and three siblings dead, her 3-month-old sister murdered, blood all over the house.

Car bombs, ambushes. Bus bombings, bombings in cafes and restaurants, Moment, Sbarro, Dolphinarium – a litany of killings that mark the worst attacks. Massacres of whole families. Children murdered in their beds. Suicide bombers. Still, there was little international outrage.

But now, the world seems to have caught up. We can only hope this is a turning point, a tipping point in the world’s sympathy for us. The world cannot ignore the horror and brutality, the carnage, the massacre of innocent people and the way that Hamas gleefully documents its horrors. Our enemies want to destroy us. That much became clear.
A Wake-Up Call for the Entire Free World
The war in Israel is the free world's war. What happened on Saturday on Israel's border with Gaza is genocide. The response should be accordingly. Hamas is not a normal political entity. The gangs that infiltrated Israel on Saturday surrounded the young people who were partying, tortured them, and then executed them, raped our daughters on the bodies of their dead friends, decapitated heads, and paraded them throughout Gaza.

They entered synagogues and family homes and executed children in front of their horrified parents, then murdered them too. They abducted babies and children, the elderly and the infirm, and paraded them while being locked up in cages, with the crowds cheering them in Gaza and distributing sweets for the "great" victory.

The death toll is over 1,000 in a single day. This is akin to having 40,000 Americans killed in one single terrorist attack. It is a genocide. Had the terrorists been able to, they would have executed all the remaining millions of Israelis as well.

Israel's enemies are closely monitoring the democratic West to determine whether it supports Israel - namely, does it understand that this is also a war over its future? What unfolded in Israel on Saturday is just a preview to what will happen - God forbid - all across the West, if we do not sober up and destroy the very last of them.

The spirit of Nazi Germany has risen from the dead and it threatens all of us. During World War II, the Allies did not send money and equipment to the citizens of Nazi Germany. This approach should apply today.

Israel rose from the ashes of the Holocaust so that scenes like these do not happen. We swore this won't happen, and as such, we must prosecute a long and patient war that culminates with the total destruction of Hamas. Israel will have to take control of Gaza and make sure this disgrace will not repeat itself. What happened in Israel is a wake-up call for the entire free world.
Yasmine Mohammed: Gaza, My Lost Home There are no sides in this war. There is only mourning.
My father lived his whole life with the hope that there might be a peaceful two-state solution. He spent his last years making YouTube videos on the topic and telling anyone who would listen about his family’s olive groves in Gaza. I am actually kind of relieved that he left this earth before he had to watch Hamas slaughter his dream on video, for all the world to see. Hamas has ensured that there will be no more Palestine, and no more hope for an independent state.

People send flippant messages to me asking “are you pro-Israel or pro-Palestine,” as if we are all watching a football match. Are you wearing a blue jersey or red? I am wearing neither. I am in black. I am in mourning for the lost Israeli and Palestinian lives. I am in mourning for the Palestine that could have been. With a gorgeous waterfront overlooking the Mediterranean Sea that was recently made safe to swim in, with fertile soil that once sustained ancient olive groves. With land rich with resources for success.

It also had the funding. Generous governments, corporations, nonprofits, and individuals have been flooding the area with billions of dollars for decades. But instead of focusing on a potential tourist industry or building hospitals and schools and helping the Gazan people thrive on the land, the area was overrun by terrorists.

The world knows Hamas now as terrorists who have committed depraved atrocities that would even make ISIS blush. But the people of Gaza already knew them. They have been suffering in relative silence under these monsters for years. Anytime a Gazan dares to raise their voice in criticism, their throat is slit immediately, making it brutally obvious that it’s best to keep quiet. Even those who hated Hamas chanted their allegiance to them loudly, in fear of their lives and their family’s lives.

Fellow Islamic regimes like Iran and Afghanistan are reveling in the rivers of Israeli blood. They do not see Jewish people as humans. They see them as things that need to be eradicated, as per the Hadith by their Prophet Muhammad which instructs them that Muslims must kill Jews until not one Jew is standing. Even the rocks and the trees will work with the Muslims against Jews, Muhammad teaches, calling out, “Oh Muslim, there is a Jew hiding behind me! Come kill him!”
Toronto Sun Editorial: Support for Hamas Is Despicable
Demonstrations and declarations of support for Hamas in Canada are despicable, but not surprising.

Celebrating the murder and kidnapping of innocent Israeli civilians by Hamas — classified as a terrorist organization by Canada since 2002 — is immoral.

There is no “nuance” about Hamas, no “context” in which its atrocities can be justified.

One of the sources of support for Hamas in Canada is the poisoned fruit of decades of thinly disguised, anti-Israel, anti-Semitic rhetoric that has found an intellectual home in many of Canada’s so-called “progressive” universities.

The anti-Israel Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement, denounced by Canada’s Parliament for promoting “the demonization and delegitimization of the State of Israel”, has thrived in Canada among many so-called intellectuals.

Ditto the international “Israel Apartheid Week” movement, which originated at the University of Toronto and which Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has rightly denounced, along with BDS, for holding Israel “to an entirely different standard than any other country in the world.”

A report last year by Dr. Ayelet Kuper, a descendant of Holocaust survivors, appointed by the U of T to investigate anti-Semitism within the university’s faculty of medicine after a series of incidents there, uncovered shocking examples of Jew hatred.

In her study, “Reflections on addressing anti-Semitism in a Canadian faculty of medicine” published in the Canadian Medical Education Journal, Kuper wrote:

“I personally experienced many instances of anti-Semitism including being told that all Jews are liars; that Jews lie to control the university or the faculty or the world, to oppress or hurt others, and/or for other forms of gain; and that anti-Semitism can’t exist because everything Jews say are lies, including any claims to have experienced discrimination …

“More specifically, I experienced the now-common strategy among those … who have made … anti-Semitic statements to say that any Jew who calls them out is just racist and is lying in order to oppress Palestinians.”
What I Learned at Harvard
As a second-year Harvard Law student immersed in international law and human rights courses and dialogues, I let things slide when acquaintances and friends dabbled in antisemitic rhetoric while supporting Palestinian human rights. I suppressed parts of myself completely so I could fit into spaces that would not want someone proud of their Israeli-Jewish identity to be a part of their organization.

October 7th was a rude awakening. We are living in a nightmare and experiencing our worst fears in real time. As I was sitting in shock, my peers at Harvard were drafting a statement rationalizing the massacres, rapes, and torture without so much as a sentence expressing empathy or condemnation.

Educated "human rights defenders" that I share classes with, people in the human rights student organizations I am a part of, and those who call themselves my friends, celebrated publicly as my people are being slaughtered, tortured, and brutalized in cold blood in their homes. They are cheering on documented, transparent war crimes. I have never felt so angry or betrayed in my life.

No longer will I sit quietly. No longer will I shy away from sharing my identity or heritage. No longer will I give people the benefit of the doubt when they dip into antisemitic tropes and rhetoric. No longer will I welcome into spaces I hold dear people who want me, my family, and my community dead. I refuse to sanitize my identity and my family's history to make others more comfortable.
We Are Seeing Who Believes that Jewish Lives Matter
After the Hamas attack on Israel, we are seeing who believes that Jewish lives matter. The masks of the antisemites have come off. The usual pundits bloviate about a "cycle of violence," equating the arsonists of Hamas with the Israeli firefighters. They pontificate about ending the "occupation" and implementing a two-state solution. They are lunatics.

Have they learned nothing from the repeated slaughter of Jews by Palestinians? More than 1,400 were killed between 2000 and October 6, 2023. Nearly that number was murdered last weekend. How many Jews must die before everyone recognizes that the Palestinians do not want a state; they want the Jews to disappear?

You'll soon see the scoreboard of Palestinian versus Israeli casualties. The media will repeat whatever fictitious number the Hamas health authorities give them, making no distinction between the terrorists and their human shields. Israel will be accused of using "disproportionate force," as if the world would prefer that Israel engage in a proportional response by butchering Palestinians and taking their women and children hostage.
How Hamas Let its Amalekite Nature Spoil Iran’s Plan
Never do an enemy a small injury – Niccolo Machiavelli

Remember what Amalek did to you on your journey out of Egypt, how they surprised you on the road and cut off all the weak people at your rear, when you were parched and weary, and they did not fear Hashem – Devarim 25:17

There is a great deal that is unknown about the horrific attack on Israel that took place last Shabbat, both regarding the methods and objectives of Hamas, and Israel’s failure to predict or properly respond. But there are some inferences that can be drawn from the timing of the event – and from its viciousness.

There are good reasons to believe that Iran was deeply involved in planning the attack in a series of meetings between representatives of Hamas with Iranian and Hezbollah officials several months ago. In addition, Hamas used explosives delivered by drones to put communication antennas on the border fence out of action, techniques similar to those used by Iranian proxies to attack Saudi Arabian oil facilities. It seems unlikely that Hamas could develop the means to do this independently. But according to US intelligence sources, Iran was surprised by the timing.

Iran’s proxies in the region include Hamas and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad in Gaza, as well as Hezbollah in Lebanon, Shiite militias in Syria and Iraq, and the Houthis in Yemen. Hezbollah is by far the most dangerous to Israel, with an estimated 130,000 rockets that can reach any point in Israel (unlike Hamas, which has very few that can reach farther north than Tel Aviv). Some of them are fitted with precision guidance systems that can strike within a few meters of a programmed target. They also have large numbers of Iranian drones, as well as fighters experienced from combat in Syria.

Although it has proven itself capable of large-scale terrorism, Hamas alone cannot pose an existential threat to Israel. But a coordinated attack from Hezbollah, Hamas, and perhaps even Syria, Yemen, and the Palestinian Authority could, especially if Israel were unprepared. The main strategic objective of Iran today is to break through as a nuclear power. Perhaps the plan was that its proxies would attack to keep Israel busy when it assembled or tested its warheads. Or perhaps the threat of a massive multi-front war was simply intended as a deterrent against Israeli action.

Whatever, Hamas was expected to wait for the order before launching its attack. But – I speculate – to the consternation of Tehran, it jumped the gun.

The leaders of Hamas care little for the grand strategic plans of Iran. Once they had the tools in their hands to inflict pain upon their hated enemies, they were unable to control their blood lust. Last weekend was Simchat Torah, when the IDF would be at its weakest. There was a juicy music festival going on near the Gaza border (with alcohol and half-dressed women, a slap in the face to Islam!) that would be even more poorly secured than the nearby towns and kibbutzim.
American Profs Cheer on Hamas Terrorists' Slaughter of Innocents
Just one day after the 50th anniversary of the surprise Arab attack on Israel that launched the 1973 Yom Kippur War, jihadists from Gaza's Hamas and Islamic Jihad terrorist organizations unleashed another surprise attack on Israel on Oct. 7. Amidst rape outrages, at least dozens taken hostage, hundreds dead and thousands wounded in Israel, numerous anti-Israel academics in Middle East studies have opened a second Twitter/X front in the terrorist war against the Jewish state.

While Israeli writer Lazar Berman speculated that "October 7, 2023 saw the most Jews slaughtered in a single day since the Holocaust," San Francisco State University associate professor of ethnic studies Rabab Abdulhadi fell in line behind the genocidal terrorists, tweeting that Hamas members "are merely defending themselves ... against colonial & racist violence."
Seriously @IlhanMN @Ilhan? "Senseless" #PalestineUnderAttack are merely defending themselves. Are you saying that #Palestinians should be exceptionalized from the right to defend themselves against colonial & racist violence? Check your facts!#FreePalestine #IsraeliCrimes https://t.co/epwAV20fwM

Zaytuna College professor of Islamic law and theology and University of California Berkeley (UCB) lecturer and chair of UCB's Islamophobia Research and Documentation Project Hatem Bazian gave the terrorists support from America's left coast.

He tweeted, "Palestinians are calling for freedom, dignity and true expression of solidarity!" Befitting his vicious and longstanding antisemitism, his tweet included an advertisement for a forthcoming rally organized by his vile creation, the Hamas-aligned American Muslims for Palestine.

UCB history professor Ussama Makdisi picked up on the theme of victimized Palestinians suffering under Israeli repression.

"The West simply does not count Arab Palestinians as equal human beings," he tweeted to justify terrorist atrocities. Thus, "Palestinians turn to armed struggle in face of massive Western-funded & backed oppression. Then the West condemns them."
The Western idea of morality has long had a Palestine-shaped hole in it. The West simply does not count Arab Palestinians as equal human beings. Which is why Palestinians turn to armed struggle in face of massive Western-funded & backed oppression. Then the West condemns them. https://t.co/3EC19ONkzt

Rutgers University assistant professor of Africana Studies Noura Erakat, who believes Israel's mere existence is criminal, sang the same pro-terrorist tune.

"Any condemnation of violence is vapid if it does not begin & end with a condemnation of Israeli apartheid, settler colonialism, and occupation," she tweeted. Any condemnation of violence is vapid if it does not begin & end with a condemnation of Israeli apartheid, settler colonialism, and occupation. #Palestine #Gaza #Decolonize

Hamas Massacre and Operation Iron Swords: What You Need To Know
Israel Is Conducting a War Against Hamas, Not Exacting Revenge Against Gazan Civilians
In response to Hamas’ atrocities, Israel declared war against the Palestinian terror group and has been conducting a campaign of artillery and aerial bombardments against Hamas targets throughout the Gaza Strip. There is a high likelihood of a ground operation.

Although Israel is conducting itself in the same manner that any democracy would when faced with a similar enemy, several news outlets have callously referred to Israel’s response as “revenge” and “retribution.”

These terms serve to portray Israel in a negative light and also distort the true nature of Israel’s response: the neutralization of the threat to its citizens from an internationally recognized terror group.

Similarly, despite Israel’s military focus on Hamas, some media organizations have reported the campaign as being directed against all of Gaza’s citizens.

Although Israel does its best to avoid civilian casualties, Hamas purposefully embeds its personnel and arms within densely occupied civilian centers and non-military sites (such as schools, hospitals, and mosques).

Thus, despite Israel’s use of targeted strikes and attempts to warn the local populations about impending bombardments, this cynical use of human shields by Hamas ultimately leads to civilian deaths.

As the Israeli Air Force’s chief of staff recently stated, “We do not act like the other side, we do not attack the civilian population. Behind every attack, there is a target. We act precisely and professionally but not surgically.”
Washington Provides Cyber Support to Israel
Expert Analysis
“Israel is possibly the one country in the world that has cyber capabilities similar to those of the United States. We aren’t going to teach the Israelis anything they don’t already know about the importance of cyber defense and the role that cyberattacks can play in warfare. But when an ally is under attack the way that Israel is, it is critical that the United States provide supplemental capacity, as needed. The two countries are well aware of each other’s capabilities through persistent U.S.-Israel military cyber exercises and other collaboration. The United States is well-positioned to surge cyber support to Jerusalem.” — RADM (Ret.) Mark Montgomery, Senior Director of FDD’s Center on Cyber and Technology Innovation and FDD Senior Fellow

“Over the past year, Israel has increased cyber cooperation with the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, and Morocco, creating a cyber component to the Abraham Accords. As a result, Israel has helped these countries strengthen their cyber defenses and repel attacks. In this moment, these countries should reciprocate and express their support as Israel battles disruptive cyberattacks and disinformation campaigns.” — Annie Fixler, Director of FDD’s Center on Cyber and Technology Innovation

Hacktivists Bombard Israel
In the wake of Hamas’ rampage, which President Joe Biden called “pure, unadulterated evil,” pro-Palestinian, pro-Russian, and other unaffiliated cybercriminal groups launched a barrage of distributed denial of service attacks against Israeli companies, infrastructure, media outlets, and government agencies. The hacktivists who launch these attacks tend to overstate their operational effects, but the disruption they cause “adds to the psychological impact of an armed conflict,” Axios Codebook explains.

Israel’s Adversaries Increase Their Cyber Capabilities
Microsoft’s annual Digital Defense Report released last week warned that Iranian cyber actors have “increase[d] the complexity of their attacks.” Tehran uses “increasingly sophisticated tradecraft,” is able to exploit newly released vulnerabilities much more quickly, and creates custom tools to evade detection by network defenders. Pairing their cyberattacks with disinformation campaigns, Iran influence operations are aimed at “sow[ing] panic among Israeli citizens.” Microsoft also warned that Gaza-based hackers are targeting Israeli energy, defense, and telecommunications companies, demonstrating “new techniques to evade detection.”
Hamas TV channel hacked, warns Gazans to find shelter
Hamas's al-Aqsa TV channel was hacked on Thursday afternoon, broadcasting a message urging residents of the Gaza Strip to protect themselves and go to shelters.

"Hamas destroyed the Gaza Strip and smuggled its leaders to safe places. Now you have to protect yourselves, evacuate your homes, and go to safe places because the blow will be fatal," read the message broadcast on the channel.

Gazan officials blamed Israel for the hack.

IDF warns civilians to evacuate city in Gaza
Earlier, the IDF reportedly dropped leaflets in the city of Beit Lahiya in the Gaza Strip, warning residents to evacuate as Hamas is using the city for its operations.

"The operations of the Hamas terrorist organization are prompting the IDF to act against it in your areas of residence," reads the leaflet reportedly dropped by the IDF. "For your safety, you must evacuate your homes immediately and go to known shelters. The IDF is not interested in harming you or your family members. Anyone who is near Hamas operatives or their facilities will put their lives in danger. A house used by terrorist organizations will be targeted. Adhering to IDF instructions will prevent you from being exposed to danger."

Since the war began, the IDF has been issuing warnings to residents of the Gaza Strip, informing them before specific neighborhoods were targeted in order to allow civilians to evacuate.
Khaled Abu Toameh: Hamas and Iran: Slaughtering Jews for Decades
The indifference has reached a point where some Western media outlets and officials continue to label Hamas terrorists as "militants." The October 7 carnage, during which Jewish women, children and the elderly were brutally murdered, shows that there is effectively no difference between Hamas and the Islamic State (ISIS).

In 2017, Western media outlets published stories arguing that Hamas has recognized Israel's right to exist by accepting the "two-state solution." The only problem is, it was not true.

Many in the international media, however, failed to report that the new program also states that "Hamas believes that no part of the land of Palestine shall be compromised or conceded, irrespective of the causes, the circumstances and the pressures and no matter how long the occupation lasts. Hamas rejects any alternative to the full and complete liberation of Palestine, from the [Jordan] River to the [Mediterranean] Sea."

In its charter, Hamas makes it clear that it remains faithful to the words of the prophet Mohammed, who was quoted as saying: "The Day of Judgement will not come until Muslims fight the Jews (killing the Jews), when the Jew will hide behind stones and trees. The stones and trees will say O' Muslims, O Abdullah, there is a Jew behind me, come and kill him." (Article 7)

Article 13 of the charter emphasizes the importance of Jihad: "There is no solution for the Palestinian question except through Jihad. Initiatives, proposals, and international conferences are all a waste of time and vain endeavors."

Notably, the new Hamas program did not replace its 1988 charter. In fact, the program repeated Hamas's commitment to the destruction of Israel through Jihad, but pointed out that since this goal cannot be achieved under the current circumstances, the group is ready to accept a temporary state on any land it obtains as a first stage toward the annihilation of Israel. Hamas, in short, is saying: We will take whatever you (Israel) give us now – starting with a Palestinian state – and we will use this to slaughter you.
NGO Monitor: European-Funded NGOs Justify the Massacre of Israelis
On October 7, 2023 (which was the Sabbath and a Jewish holiday), hundreds of Palestinian terrorists poured across the border from Gaza into Israel, slaughtering over 1,000 Jews, and torturing, maiming, and kidnapping others. Gaza Palestinians also engaged in public desecration of victims’ bodies. In parallel, thousands of rockets were fired at Israeli population centers, sending millions rushing to shelters. Since then, the rockets and infiltration attempts have continued.

In response, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) that are funded by European governments to promote “human rights” and “international law” – including Al-Haq, Defense for Children International – Palestine (DCI-P), Bisan, 7amleh, Palestinian Medical Relief Society (PMRS), and the Palestinian NGO Network (PNGO) – have refused to condemn these blatant violations of human rights and international law. In fact, they are doing the exact opposite, justifying and celebrating the attacks in an immoral attempt to grant legitimacy to terrorism and Hamas. Mostly, the NGOs use the language of “resistance” – code for targeting any and all Israelis, including civilians, though some NGOs have been explicit in defending and supporting terrorism.

The NGO statements are particularly relevant given the increasing number of European donor governments that are suspending and otherwise reevaluating their funding for Palestinians in light of the massacres. The NGO rhetoric reflects an immoral agenda that directly contradicts the human rights mandate that their government funder-enablers claim to promote.
Failing the 7/10 litmus test #3: Kenneth Roth
The third in a series of fiskings of people who have responded to the revelations of Hamas savagery by doubling down their commitment to a narrative in which the Palestinian cause wants “freedom and dignity” and the Israelis refuse cruelly to give it to them, producing the “frustration and desperation” that lashes out. In this case Ken Roth, former head of the super-power “human rights” NGO HRW, replicates and cites the work of his organization, which has been a major contributor to the moral and empirical disorientation of the Western public sphere for over two decades.
The attack on Israel has been called a ‘9/11 moment’. Therein lies a cautionary tale
Kenneth Roth
Wed 11 Oct 2023 09.05 EDT

If the Israeli government responds to this moment like George W Bush, it will soon follow the route of his government from global sympathy to global outrage

And if “the whole world” responds to a democracy defending itself the way it did to the US (no matter how flawed a response), by siding with its enemies (as did the “Human Rights” NGOs at Durban at that very moment, 2001 and again in 2002, and again in 2003, etc. etc.), then it will produce a world in which progressive values are fatally corrupted, democracies radically disoriented, torn apart by activist journalism, rendered morally hysterical by a information professionals who report Jihadi war propaganda as news.
Hamas’s appalling attack on Israeli civilians has been widely described as the country’s “9/11 moment”. It is an appropriate description of such wanton cruelty. But the analogy carries a cautionary note as well.

#Shocker. Ken Roth can not articulate a sentiment sympathetic to Israel and critical of Palestinians without a BUT…
The US government lost the world’s sympathy, and the moral high ground, when its response to 9/11 degenerated into a highly abusive war in Iraq, systematic torture, and endless detention without trial in Guantánamo. The Israeli government should be careful not to replicate this path to opprobrium. Indeed, such an abusive response may be exactly what Hamas wanted to provoke.

Yes. And the Israelis are caught in a bind. If they do respond, they create the damage to Gazans that Hamas wants. And if people like you obsess over “Palestinian suffering” and use this to turn against Israel, rather than the people who wanted this and provoked it, then you become allies with those who behave far worse than the US in Iraq.

Russian-born pianist Evgeny Kissin: Massacres in Israel similar to a pogrom but worse
World-renowned pianist Evgeny Kissin denounces the anti-Jewish massacres committed by Hamas in southern Israel. In conversation with his friend, journalist Tom Gross

‘Just Canceled My Subscription,’ ‘Disgusting’: Readers Revolt at New York Times War Coverage
The New York Times has greeted the Hamas terrorist onslaught against Israel that killed more than 1,000 with a thermometer-like chart depicting a competition between “Israeli and Palestinian conflict-related deaths,” as if Israeli children and grandmothers murdered in cold blood were somehow morally equivalent to Israel’s self-defense killings of terrorists.

One former New York Times columnist, Max Fisher, celebrated the appearance of the game-show style graphic on the newspaper’s website home page. “A sign of how much US popular and journalistic attitudes have changed,” Fisher posted on X/Twitter. “I did this exact chart at Vox during the 2014 war and got screamed at for weeks. David Frum accused me of agitating for murder of Jews. Ted Cruz condemned. Now it’s on the NYT HP without a blip.”

Not entirely without a blip. One Times reader, David Rusenko, posted, “Just canceled my @nytimes subscription. Shockingly biased coverage on the front page right now. All photos of damage or injury are Palestinian, and photos representing Israel are of tanks, the iron dome, and people hiding safely.”

Rusenko went on: “Zero mention of the kidnapping, rape, and murder of Israeli civilians and the gleeful filming as their bodies are paraded around the streets. And to add insult to injury, they have the gall of featuring a graph of the relative deaths from the last 15 years, implying that either the attack was justified or minimizing the current deaths. Disgusting.”

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) hasn’t left the Times off the hook. Cruz retweeted radio host Mark Levin’s cautionary words: “Watch the New York Times, which covered up the Holocaust while millions of Jews were being exterminated. Watch how it turns on the Israeli Jews as Israel acts to wipe out Hamas. Watch how most of the rest of the media line up behind it.”

The senator also warned, “Hamas uses civilians as human shields. When Israel strikes back, the useful idiots at the New York Times and CNN will denounce Israel for murdering civilians. Don’t believe the lies.”

At least in the initial coverage, the Times‘ main errors have been more of moral equivalence than outright denouncing Israel. But there was some of the latter, too.
Former Canadian Ambassador To Israel Pens Column Blaming “Occupation” For Hamas’ Murderous Rampage
Only three days after Hamas’ unprecedented terrorist assault on Israel that killed close to 1,000 Israelis, and with at least 100-150 innocent Israelis kidnapped by Hamas in Gaza, some commentators are already presenting a disturbing moral equivalence between Hamas, the Gaza-based Islamist terrorist organization responsible for unspeakable crimes against humanity, and Israel, the victim of those attacks.

In an October 9 opinion column in The Toronto Star entitled: “The violence between Israelis and Palestinians will not end until each side recognizes the other’s legitimacy” Jon Allen, a senior fellow at the Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy, and a former Canadian ambassador to Israel, repeatedly portrayed the violence as a tit-for-tat conflict between two warring parties, never using the words ‘Islamist,’ ‘terror’ or ‘terrorism’ even once. Hamas, says the former ambassador, are “militants”.

Allen began by outlining the tragic events in Israel, but failed to adequately explain what took place, namely a Hamas massacre against hundreds upon hundreds of innocent civilians, including children, before pivoting to writing that “the suffering and death toll is now transferring to the Gaza Strip…more than 680 people have been killed in Israel’s retaliatory strikes,” drawing a moral correspondence between a terrorist attack against civilians and Israel’s targeting of Hamas terrorists in Gaza.

Allen continued by falsely stating that Israel was “increasing the number of Israeli work permits for Gazans (the ‘economic solution’ to the Occupation),” perpetuating the falsehood that Israel occupies the Gaza Strip. As a former ambassador, it is remarkable that Allen seems unaware that Israel has not occupied a single inch of the territory since 2005, when the country forcibly withdrew all its citizens.

Allen soon began whitewashing Palestinian terrorism, writing that “young unemployed Palestinians in Jenin and other West Bank cities who never have had the chance to vote in a democratic election and who are facing settler violence, settlement expansion at an unprecedented pace and despair in the face of an Occupation for which there is no obvious end, are responding with violence of their own.”
Globe And Mail Editorial Gives A Powerful & Clear Defence of Israel
In the last few days, when there have been a barrage of instances of deplorable coverage of Hamas’ genocidal war against Israel, it is also important to recognize excellence.

On October 10, The Globe & Mail published an opinion column by its editorial board entitled: “Canada must stand by Israel,” which was a statement of supreme moral clarity, particularly coming from Canada’s newspaper of record.

The column not only condemned Hamas’ “shocking and brutal attacks” against Israeli civilians, referring to the Islamist group correctly as a “terrorist organization,” but pushing back against the “lazy notion that the two sides in the conflict need to agree to a ceasefire.”

It continued that “there are not two sides, equally to blame. There are Israelis, kidnapped and murdered, and there is Hamas, the kidnappers and murderers.”

This recognition – that the perpetrators of terrorism and its victims should not be equated – is a statement that has tragically been lost on many members of Canada’s news media, whether it was news outlets giving airtime to those blaming Israel for Hamas’ murderous rampage, or even more shocking, Canada’s former ambassador to Israel who claimed in a Toronto Star column that Israel’s non-existent “occupation” of Gaza made Hamas massacre Israeli men, women and children, including babies.

As the Globe editorial correctly noted, Israel is under no obligation whatsoever to agree to any ceasefire with Hamas. Doing so would only be capitulating to the Islamist terrorist group, giving it life for another day. “Destroying Hamas is not only a legitimate aim for Israel, but an act of self-preservation,” the column reads, adding that “Israel has the right to defend itself, even if the exercise of that right results in collateral civilian casualties.”
In Hill Times Column, Former Senator & MP Says Only End to Israel’s “Occupation” Will Stop Hamas
Seeing the stomach-churning testimonials, photos, and videos of Hamas’ unprecedented and unprovoked barbaric massacre of innocent Israeli civilians is a shock to Canadians. But as upsetting as the images are, they should not come as a surprise to anyone who understands the true nature of Hamas: an Islamist terrorist group that is dedicated to the total destruction of Israel.

However, even in the face of this indescribable targeting and murder of innocent Israelis, including entire families, babies, and the elderly, there are still some commentators who continue to be under the misperception that somehow, a negotiated settlement is possible between Israel and Hamas.

In an opinion column published on October 9 in The Hill Times entitled: “Darkness of violence must not kill hopes for peace,” author Douglas Roche, a former senator and member of parliament, rightly condemned Hamas’ murder of Israeli civilians, labeling them “abhorrent attacks.”

But it didn’t take long before he provided simple and false platitudes, writing that “This most recent violence does not come in a vacuum…The reality is that it grows out of a long-standing conflict, with a 56-year long occupation of Palestine and no political end in sight.” He continued by saying that “only a negotiated peace that fulfills the legitimate national aspirations of Palestinians and Israelis can bring long-term stability to the Middle East.”

While it is certainly true that Hamas’ most recent terrorist attack – the deadliest assault on Jews since the Holocaust – did not take place in a vacuum, the context Roche is attempting to provide only obfuscates the truth and serves to rationalize Hamas terrorism.
Pop Culture Social Media Platform Uses Hamas Atrocities to Push Anti-Israel Messaging
Entertainment network Pop Base boasts at least 1.3 million followers across its social media platforms — from X to Instagram.

As Israel went to war against Hamas following a large-scale invasion from across the Gaza border in which terrorists slaughtered civilians and took others hostage, Pop Base began mounting a subtle — yet insidious — campaign against the Jewish state.

On October 7 — just hours after the Jewish state was first attacked — Pop Base reported that acclaimed Hollywood actress Jamie Lee Curtis had shown her “support for Israel amid the current escalation between Israel and Palestine” alongside a screengrab of Curtis’ Instagram post of an Israeli flag.

Less than 24 hours later, Pop Base posted a further two messages that related to celebrity support for Israel following the brutal and unprovoked murder sprees perpetrated by Hamas:

— Pop Base (@PopBase) October 8, 2023

On October 11, Pop Base again made reference to the Hamas-perpetrated atrocities — this time posting a statement from model Gigi Hadid, who has previously been a vocal critic of Israel and condemned the massacre in Israel’s south, stating: “I also feel a responsibility to my Jewish friends to make it clear, as I have before: While I have hopes and dreams for Palestinians, none of them include the harm of a Jewish person.”

It’s understated, but it is crafty and effective.

Pop Base does not make a direct comment on recent events but uses its considerable reach to push anti-Israel messaging, including by failing to remove comments from accounts that leave both antisemitic and pro-Hamas beneath its posts.

In fact, Pop Base has even posted explicitly anti-Israel content on its feeds.
1 in 4 social media accounts discussing Hamas right now is a terrorist bot
One in four social media users posting about the ongoing conflict between Hamas and Israel is a fake account.

This is the claim made by Cyabra, an Israeli social media threat intelligence company – and the vast amount of data scraped, compiled, and analyzed by the company’s platform backs it up.

The company uses semi-supervised machine learning and AI algorithms in order to comprehensively observe, detect and flag fake social media accounts throughout the internet. Last year, Cyabra made headlines when it was hired by Elon Musk to determine the number of bots on Twitter, finding that 11% of all accounts on the popular online platform were fake.

Following Hamas’ terror attack which slaughtered over 1,200 civilians – children, babies, women, and men alike – Cyabra has been monitoring the online conversation surrounding the conflict between Hamas and Israel, and what they’ve found is that the terrorist organization is implementing bots at a massive scale – over 40,000 – in order to spread false narratives and sway public opinion.

“Everyone’s been quite surprised by the ground invasion on Saturday and the organization that went into it. We can also say that there is a second battle that’s taking place in the online sphere, with a huge number of fake accounts and a level of coordination that goes beyond that of a terrorist group – it’s more akin to a state level of organization,” said Rafi Mendelsohn, Cyabra’s VP Marketing.
Meet the LA Times Reporter Who Doesn't Want You To Know Hamas Beheads Babies
Los Angeles Times investigative reporter Adam Elmahrek has never covered Israel for the paper. He covers California's pot industry. But that isn't stopping him from insisting it is "disinformation" to point out that Hamas beheaded babies in its terrorist assault against the Jewish state.

After a viral report from Israeli outlet i24News indicated as much, Elmahrek argued on X, formerly Twitter, that the claim is "unverified" and "sensational." The "only source" behind the claim, Elmahrek said, "appears to be the Israeli military, which is widely known to spread lies and disinformation."

This sort of freelancing and misinformation-spreading appears to be A-OK by his employer. The Times did not return a request for comment.

Roughly an hour before Elmahrek's post, the French journalist Margot Haddad confirmed that Hamas had beheaded "infants and children under two years old" on a kibbutz, citing "atrocious images that reached me and that I was able to corroborate," as well as "courageous journalists from the foreign press who … agreed to see with their own eyes the bodies." Subsequent reports from CBS News and CNN also confirmed the horror, with CNN's Nic Robertson describing "men, women, children, hands bound, shot, executed, heads cut."

But Elmahrek, a self-described "Palestinian citizen of Israel" who has called Israel an "apartheid state," has not shared that information. Instead, the reporter on Wednesday argued that reporters "will have blood on our hands" should they report on beheaded babies and other "heinous allegations," which Elmahrek said have still not been verified. Hours later, President Joe Biden said during a meeting with Jewish leaders that he "never thought" he would "see... have confirmed pictures of terrorists beheading children." When the White House cited Israeli media reports to back the claim, Elmahrek touted the citation as "confirmation that Biden has retracted his claim that he saw the photos."

Elmahrek's refusal to acknowledge reports confirming the beheadings reflects the soft-on-Hamas coverage seen in some left-wing media outlets following the terrorist group's Saturday assault on Israel. MSNBC, for example, is opting to call Hamas terrorists "militants" or "fighters," even after Anti-Defamation League CEO Jonathan Greenblatt blasted the network for doing so.

Joy Reid and Her Guests Blame Israel for Hamas’s Massacre
Hamas’s barbarism was on full display last Saturday. On Shabbat and the Jewish holiday of Simchat Torah, Israelis were slaughtered in the streets, babies and the elderly were kidnapped, and teenage girls were raped and taken as war booty to Gaza. The images that came out the same day were reminiscent of ISIS, the death toll of Jews the highest in a single day since the Holocaust.

Even as news organizations such as the New York Times have, in the past, made ridiculous claims like “Hamas Gives Peaceful Protests a Chance,” Israel and its supporters have always known that this was the enemy we faced; that given the opportunity, they would not hesitate to engage in unspeakable cruelty. Attempts to explain this to reporters who ran cover for Hamas were often to little avail. But all week, images that shock the conscience have been circulating on social media and the reality can no longer be denied.

Now even the New York Times has provided its readers with graphic depictions of what has occurred. Its blog included the now-famous video of Israeli Noa Argamani being abducted on a motorcycle, a photo of burned out cars in the aftermath of the attack on the rave, and a video compilation of the beginning of the attack on the rave, with people running for their lives. A news article included accounts from three separate people describing the moments when their loved ones were abducted. A video on Tuesday’s digital front page described in detail “How Hamas’s Massacre in Sderot Unfolded.” The Washington Post, CNN, and the Atlantic all prominently featured graphic accounts of what had occurred. Tablet and Rolling Stone have published interviews with eyewitnesses to the rave massacre.

At one news outlet, however, the most prominent feature of its reporting was victim-blaming. On Monday evening, October 9, MSNBC aired an episode of Joy Reid’s program that would have been right at place if it had aired on Iranian state TV instead. Her guests Peter Beinart, Ayman Mohyeldin, Ali Velshi and Lt. General Stephen Twitty ignored Hamas’s dedication to genocidal violence as expressed in its charter and in its leaders’ rhetoric, omitted any mention of offers of Palestinian sovereignty and independence, and sought to imply that the carnage was inevitable due to Israel’s actions – therefore excusing and justifying Hamas’s barbaric attack.
Four of Britain's top lawyers make Ofcom complaint about BBC's refusal to label Hamas 'terrorists' after attack on Israel - as they accuse corporation of abandoning its impartiality
our of Britain's top lawyers have complained to Ofcom over the BBC's refusal to label Hamas 'terrorists' after its attacks on Israel.

The corporation last night defended its decision not to describe Hamas militants as 'terrorists' in its coverage of the deadly attacks in Israel, despite receiving a huge backlash from politicians and those within the Jewish community.

The broadcaster's refusal continues despite King Charles condemning the 'barbaric acts of terrorism' while the Prince and Princess of Wales spoke of their distress following 'Hamas's terrorist attack'.

Instead, the BBC refers to Hamas as a 'militant' group and described the slaughter of civilians as a 'militant' attack.

Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis accused broadcasters of trying to 'wilfully mislead' by not using the word terrorist, while Defence Secretary Grant Shapps called on the corporation to 'get the moral compass out' and Labour leader Keir Starmer urged the broadcaster to 'explain' its reasoning.

Lord Wolfson KC, Lord Pannick KC, Lord Grabiner KC and Jeremy Brier KC have now accused the BBC of failing to show impartiality 'beyond doubt' by describing Hamas in 'more sympathetic terms' as 'militants'.

The four senior lawyers signed a letter calling on Ofcom to investigate. In a letter shared on X, they said: 'On 7th October 2023, Hamas launched a large invasion of the State of Israel which resulted variously in the slaughter, rape and abduction of over a thousand Israeli citizens. There is nothing controversial about that. It is a fact.

BBC’s Bowen does whataboutery in Kfar Aza
On October 10th the IDF took members of the international press to Kibbutz Kfar Aza where soldiers were still going house to house to retrieve the bodies of those slaughtered by the Hamas terrorists who had infiltrated that community and others located near the border with the Gaza Strip three days earlier.

The BBC’s representative on that tour was its international editor Jeremy Bowen and three reports – two filmed and one written – were subsequently published on the BBC News website.

One of those filmed reports published on October 10th is titled ‘Elite Israeli soldiers gain control of border areas’.

With the exception of three brief unexplained frames showing damaged houses on Kfar Aza, that report does not provide BBC audiences with any explanation of what happened there.

Bowen’s second filmed report is titled ‘Kibbutz Kfar Aza: Hamas killed whole families’. In its synopsis, the events in that community are qualified – “Israeli soldiers said that…” – and its third and final paragraph relates to events in a different location: the Gaza Strip.

The first 1:37 minutes of that four-minute and thirty-eight-second report show footage of Israeli soldiers accompanied by commentary from Bowen. Viewers then see images of the same damaged houses in Kfar Aza as Bowen tells them that: [emphasis in italics in the original, emphasis in bold added]

Bowen: “Kfar Aza was taken by surprise like everywhere else Hamas attacked. The kibbutz guard – armed civilian volunteers – died fighting back. Hamas stormed in, burning homes and killing families according to the soldiers.”

Viewers are not told that the “armed civilian volunteers” making up “the kibbutz guard” were – as is the case on all kibbutzim – residents of the community. Neither are they told why Bowen found it necessary to append the qualifying phrase “according to the soldiers” to his description of the atrocities perpetrated by Hamas – which of course he failed to point out is a terrorist organisation.
Round-up of media errors in coverage of the war - Oct. 11

Woke MSNBC loses 33% of primetime audience during coverage of the Israel Hamas war as it insists on publishing a joint death toll - while Fox and CNN see double-digit increases on viewing figures
Woke news broadcaster MSNBC lost 33 percent of its primetime viewers during its coverage of the Israel Hamas war.

The outlet's viewer figures were down 24 percent overall for the four days between October 7 and 10 which saw the outbreak of war between Israel and Hamas terrorists.

By comparison the shocking events saw a leap in Fox News's audience, up 42 percent, and in CNN's coverage, which saw a 17 percent rise in viewers.

'These numbers tell you a lot about MSNBC, which excels at Trump-era liberal therapy but can’t match others during global historic events' Puck media reporter Dylan Byers wrote.

More than 1,200 Israelis have been killed by Hamas attacks, and 1,100 people have been killed by Israeli counter strikes on Gaza. Unlike other outlets MSNBC has insisted on publishing a joint death toll.

MSNBC has come under fire for its coverage of the atrocities in Israel with an an Israeli mother whose two sons were take hostage by Hamas exploding at MSNBC's Andrea Mitchell on Tuesday night when asked how she feels about Israel's counterstrikes in Gaza.

Renana Gomeh, whose two sons age 12 and 16 were kidnapped by Hamas, became visibly irritated when Mitchell asked her feelings on the attacks in Gaza.

'I can’t be sympathetic anymore. I can’t be sympathetic to animal human beings — well, they’re not really human beings — who came into my house, broke everything,' said Gomeh.

'Stole everything, took my children from their bedrooms and took them to the Gaza Strip.'

By contrast Fox News reporter Trey Yingst has won praise for his fearless coverage of the shocking scenes unfolding in the Middle East.

ABC star Nour Haydar under fire over posts about the Israel-Palestine conflict:  'Does she work for the ABC or Al-Jazeera?'
An ABC political reporter has been accused of breaching the national broadcaster's strict impartiality guidelines after sharing controversial tweets about the conflict in Israel and surrounding fallout in Australia.

Federal politics reporter Nour Haydar shared the tweets after the Palestinian militant group Hamas unleashed a horrific terrorist attack on the Jewish homeland on Saturday, killing hundreds of innocent civilians.

Following the attacks, hundreds of protesters caused chaos outside the Opera House in Sydney shouting 'gas the Jews' and 'f*** the Jews,' prompting NSW premier Chris Minns to call off an upcoming Free Palestine rally.

Ms Haydar did not appear to support his decision to ban the upcoming protest, and shared a message from Palestinian activist Randa Abdel-Fattah.

'How is it possible that Palestinians in Australia are being policed for their language, protests, grief, called animals, accused of supporting terrorism, framed as instigators, and an Australian Jewish organisation openly calls for genocide,' the reposted tweet states.

The comments were in response to the Australian Jewish Association supporting air strikes against Hamas targets in Gaza in retaliation to the terror attacks on Israel.

According to the Gaza Health Ministry, the airstrikes have killed over 1,100 Palestinians. Officials have not said how many civilians are among the dead.

'Pure evil must be eradicated from this earth. Flatten it,' The Australian Jewish Association wrote.

Ramaswamy Says GOP ‘Selective Moral Outrage' on Israel Driven By Money, Lobbying Groups
Vivek Ramaswamy criticized Republicans for their "selective moral outrage" at the mass terrorist attacks in Israel, and argued that politicians calling for a stronger military response against Hamas and Iran are driven by donor money.

The Republican presidential candidate questioned why his GOP opponents are not expressing similar outrage about the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan, and accused them of "ignoring the interests of the U.S. right here at home." Specifically, Ramaswamy, in an interview with Tucker Carlson, equated the influx of fentanyl over the southern border—a "genocide," in Carlson's estimation—with Hamas's attack against Israel.

"The selective nature of ignoring certain other conflicts—even more importantly, ignoring the interests of the U.S. right here at home—is what irritates the heck out of me," Ramaswamy told Carlson.

"It is shameful. And I think that there are, frankly, financial and corrupting influences that lead them exactly to speak the way they do, that's just the hard truth," he added.

Ramaswamy, who is polling at 5.9 percent in the RealClearPolitics average, added that there is "no level of moral outrage" about this "incursion right here at home" and argued that many other conflicts around the world are covered up by the U.S. press and deep-pocketed lobbyists. "Azerbaijan has a lobby, a powerful lobby in Washington D.C."

"You only hear about [foreign conflicts] in certain selective cases that the media and the existing establishment and both parties deem fit for the American public," he said.
Jewish Group Calls on Australian Government to Cease Funding to Palestinian Territories
The Australian Jewish Association (AJA) is urging the Australian government to cease sending Australian taxpayer funds to the Palestinian territories immediately.

They've warned that this money is being used to “fund incitement of Palestinian Arabs.”

"Stop every dollar sent to the Palestinian territories or we are complicit," the association wrote in a post on X (formerly Twitter). Related Stories

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Foreign Minister Penny Wong were criticised for the government's recent increase in the aid budget to the Palestinian Territories, which amounts to tens of millions of Australian dollars being sent annually.

AJA likens this support to funding schools and activities in Nazi Germany during World War II.

"Other countries have cancelled their funding," they said, adding that they encourage people to contact their local Members of Parliament to demand a halt to this financial assistance.

Government’s Stance Toward Palestinian Territories
The Australian Labor government provided $38.1 million (US$24.5 million) in aid to the Palestinian Occupied Territories (POTs) in the 2022-23 financial year in the form of humanitarian assistance and development aid.

Labor's Draft National Platform (pdf) for their 49th Annual Conference in 2023 expresses support for the recognition and the right of both Israel and Palestine to exist as two separate states within secure and acknowledged borders.

The consultation paper also calls on the Australian government to officially recognise Palestine as a state and emphasise the significance of this matter as a priority.
PreOccupiedTerritory: Land-For-Peace Politicians Thinking This Maybe Not The Best Time For New Promo (satire)
Figures on Israel’s left who have long pushed for a resolution of the conflict with the Palestinians that involves Israeli territorial concessions in exchange for Palestinian or international security guarantees have determined that current events might have rendered a planned series of events and publicity to promote the principle somewhat unwise to launch at the moment.

A handful of serving Knesset members, several dozen activists, a similar number of academics, and former legislators from the Labor and Meretz Parties agreed Thursday morning not to pursue a campaign they had scheduled to kick off next week to convince Israelis that relinquishing control of Israeli-held territories to the Palestinians will help Israel consolidate and shore its international standing, its economy, and its safety, a member of the group disclosed today. However, the developments of the last week have prompted some second thoughts on the part of at least half the coalition; a straw poll last night, followed by a formal vote this morning, saw the indefinite postponement of the initiative.

“We, uh, yeah, we think, uh, it might not be the most, uh, effective use of our resources,” acknowledged former Meretz MK Zehava Gal-On. “You know, with people’s attention on, y’know, other things. It’s not going to have the impact we aim to achieve with such a campaign.”

“We ourselves have no doubt about the justice and workability of our ideas,” explained Former Labor MK Yosi Beilin, an architect of the Oslo peace process and model that ceded control to, and armed, Palestinians in areas Israel had taken from Jordan and Egypt in 1967, including the major urban centers of the Gaza Strip, and in the aftermath of which thousands of Israelis have been murdered by Palestinians operating from those areas. “It’s just that there are some loud ideas out there that seem more compelling, more convincing, to many people, and which prevent people from understanding the necessity of implementing something similar again with more territory.”

Iran gave the order: This is how Hamas' offensive was planned
Indications of the meticulous planning behind the surprise attack on the Gaza border communities are becoming clearer as time passes. The broad picture, even if late, should not soothe the politicians and military personnel but rather provide a clearer situation that would allow Israel to shift from defense to offense and prevent further loss of human lives in other areas. There is no room to persist with old misconceptions; our enemies on the borders are not deterred, and the Hamas attack, intentionally Iranian-driven, is necessarily part of a broader plan.

Iran gave the command. This fact is already known to all and is responsible for over a thousand fatalities and thousands of wounded. According to intelligence sources, in Israel, it is already known that the signal for the Saturday morning attack was given secretly to preserve the element of surprise, but the planning took place over a period of about ten months in secret trilateral meetings in Beirut, involving members of Hamas, Hezbollah, and senior Iranians. Some of these meetings were even reported in the international media and in Israel but did not receive special attention.

The most recent reported meetings took place in Beirut, one in October, just six days before the deadly attack, and the other in early April. Iran's foreign minister, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, arrived in Lebanon ten days before the attack for central meetings with Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah and also met with Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad, according to local reports. In the same closed-door meeting, it was reported that he approved "Tehran's commitment to the strategy of supporting and resisting the Palestinian people and the issue of liberating the land (Israel)." Another meeting took place in early April when leaders of the armed movements, Hezbollah and Hamas, met in Beirut to discuss the "resistance axis' readiness" against Israel.

Israel, however, was mistaken in assuming that Hezbollah was still deterred and that Hamas sought to function as a legitimate governing entity, not as a terrorist organization. What do we know here? Since the beginning of the year, Israeli intelligence and the military have spoken about the "multi-theater combat" scenario, in which an attack would be carried out against Israel from Gaza, Lebanon, and Syria simultaneously, possibly even involving Arab citizens of Israel. The scenario made headlines in April-May when the main concern was violent activity against Israel and a combined attack during Ramadan and around Jerusalem Day events. During these months, there were many attacks against Israelis, but the threat of the scenario becoming a reality never materialized.

Despite the Diplomatic-Security Cabinet's decisions regarding Hamas' capabilities, so far, the IDF has focused on aerial activity, while Hamas' military capabilities are deeply entrenched underground. As long as the capabilities of terrorist organizations in the Gaza Strip are not eliminated, it seems that the residents there will not be able to return and live in security.
Letting Iran Sanctions Expire Will Contribute to the Next Round of Bloodshed
This is not the only difficult policy decision America currently faces with respect to Israel’s crisis. Although the topic of sanctions lacks the moral urgency of the safety of U.S. citizens in the hands of sadistic captors, it could in the long run prove no less consequential—and if mishandled, could lead to even greater losses of life. In accordance with the 2015 nuclear deal, UN sanctions on Iran’s drone and missile programs will expire on October 18. Anthony Ruggiero and Andrea Stricker argue that Washington must make sure the sanctions are renewed, and explain why doing so matters for Israel’s safety:

The expiration of the UN embargoes will make it easier for Iran to obtain foreign missile and drone equipment. Tehran already procures such equipment but will face fewer restrictions and enforcement actions to stop it from flowing from supplier and transit countries. Tehran will also increase its use of front companies and other concealment efforts to make illicit procurements for missile and drone activities more difficult to detect—and therefore harder for the U.S. and Europe to sanction.

Iran will use this new permissive procurement and sales environment to augment weapons provisions both to Palestinian terrorist groups that attack Israelis and to Russia to undermine Western support for Ukraine. . . . If the U.S. and its European partners rely solely on national authorities to retain the missile and drone sanctions [rather than renewing them at the UN], Iran will see it as a sign of Western weakness and intensify its malign activities, including its nuclear program.

When the West does not respond to Iran’s destabilizing policies in the region and beyond, Iran typically takes full advantage. Allowing the embargoes to lapse would be a further signal that the U.S. and Europe will stand down on Tehran’s drone, missile, and nuclear proliferation.

The U.S. and Europe have time to act and reverse their acquiescence to Tehran’s growing destabilization of international security. There isn’t a moment to lose—the people of Israel and Ukraine depend on it.
Another Iraqi Shia militia threatens the United States over involvement in Israel
Hezbollah Brigades, an Iranian proxy that operates primarily in Iraq but also in Syria, has joined the chorus of so-called ‘Islamic Resistance’ groups in issuing threats against the United States as it supports Israel against the Hamas-led assault against it.

In a short statement released on its website, the Hezbollah Brigades first congratulates the Palestinian people “for their great victories despite the criminality from the Zionist entity.” The Iranian-backed militia goes on to say that “they [the Palestinians] have broken the power of the criminal Zionists, and increased the conflict to a level that terrified the entity [Israel].”

According to the militia, “this brave group [referring to Palestinian militants] has proven the superiority of the will of the mujahideen over the enemy’s technology.”

After heavily praising the continued Hamas-led fighting against the Jewish state, it turned its attention to the United States. “Our missiles, drones, and special forces stand ready to direct qualitative strikes against the Americans in their bases and against their interests if it intervenes in this battle.”

The Hezbollah Brigades also seemingly directly threatens Israel itself by saying that “known positions of the Zionist entity and its allies will also be hit by our missiles, if necessary.”

At the end of its statement, it also calls on its supporters to help raise and donate funds to send to the so-called ‘Islamic Resistance’ in Gaza. The ‘Islamic Resistance’ is a euphemism used by Iranian-backed groups to refer to each other.

Adams, Hochul address rally in New York City that draws crowd of thousands
Thousands who gathered in Manhattan on Oct. 10 for a “New York Stands with Israel” rally heard a mother’s plea for the release of her son.

“We last spoke with him on Friday night,” Orna Neutra told the crowd of her 21-year-old son Omer. “In our last conversation, he was looking forward to a quiet, peaceful weekend after a stressful month protecting the border.”

Omer Neutra is believed to be held captive by Hamas in Gaza, his mom said. “Omer, we know you are alive. We know you are whole. Be strong. We love you very much, and you know, we will be together again, soon.”

A native of Long Island, N.Y., Omer is a fan of the New York Knicks and served as captain of the basketball, volleyball and soccer teams at the Schechter School of Long Island. He opted to spend a gap year in Israel before studying at the State University of New York at Binghamton.

Ronen Neutra, Omer’s father, praised U.S. President Joe Biden’s speech earlier in the day which has been widely seen as strongly pro-Israel. “We love you, and we are just looking forward to bringing you back home,” he said, directed to his son.

The event, which drew thousands and was organized by UJA-Federation of New York and the Jewish Community Relations Council of New York, drew city and state officials, as well as Israel’s ambassador to the United Nations to Dag Hammarskjöld Plaza in Midtown Manhattan, near U.N. headquarters on the east side.

Many attendees waved Israeli flags, and many bore signs, including one that stated: “Never Again Is Now.”
Netflix to Double-Match Donations Made to Israeli EMS Service Through Jewish Jewelry Company
The streaming giant Netflix has agreed to match and then double donations made to United Hatzalah, the Israeli volunteer-based emergency medical services organization, through the Jewish-owned jewelry brand SXS Jewels, The Algemeiner has learned.

SXS Jewels said on Instagram that every purchase of their Star of David or Chai (“life” in Hebrew) necklaces will be 18 percent off and the proceeds will go directly to United Hatzalah of Israel. Netflix will then match and double the donation amount.

“Through a contact at [Netflix] we have worked this out [and] we are hopeful and excited to raise funds to be able to send to United Hatzalah,” SXS Jewels co-owner Sacha Fruchter told The Algemeiner.

United Hatzalah is the largest independent, nonprofit, and fully volunteer EMS organization providing emergency medical service throughout Israel free of charge. The Jerusalem-based organization has more than 6,500 volunteers across the country. During the ongoing war between Hamas and Israel, its goal is to raise $20 million that will be used to buy emergency equipment to treat injured Israelis as well as protective equipment for United Hatzalah volunteers.
‘Choose Humanity Over Violence’: Wave of Celebrities Speak Out About Israel-Hamas War, Condemn Terrorism
The Kardashians, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, and Barbara Streisand are among the Hollywood celebrities who have spoken out about the deadly Israel-Hamas war, which began last weekend when Hamas invaded the Jewish state and killed well over 1,000 Israelis, mostly civilians.

“I’m heartbroken, angry, and sickened by the brutal murders and kidnapping of Jewish people through the horrific acts of the Hamas terrorist group … hateful acts of terrorism like these are never justified, ” said Johnson in an Instagram post. The wrestler-turned-actor also condemned the terrorist attacks and shared his condolences with the innocent victims.

Roc Nation — the management, music publishing, and entertainment company founded by rapper and entrepreneur Jay-Z — said in a statement, “The world is too small for hatred, violence, and bloodshed. We grieve the irreparable loss of life as we equivocally denounce all acts of terrorism. We are praying for peace.”

Stranger Things star and Jewish actor Noah Schnapp posted a lengthy message on social media calling out those who have remained “chillingly quiet” about the war, even though those same people “love to jump on fashionable causes like supporting Ukraine and combating climate change. The Jewish people are seeing your silence and we won’t forget it.”

Schnapp also shamed his followers who are siding with the violence being carried out by Hamas terrorists against Israelis and those “attempting to justify the brutality against these innocent Israeli people.” He told his followers, “You don’t have to be Jewish, you don’t have to be Israeli, you just have to have empathy and common sense to know that THIS is wrong … You either stand with Israel or you stand with terrorism. It shouldn’t be a difficult choice. Shame on you.”

'Murder and violence against innocent people is TERRORISM': LeBron James speaks out on the 'tragic' and 'unacceptable' attacks in Israel as he condemns Hamas' killings in joint statement with Maverick Carter
LeBron James has condemned the Hamas attacks in Israel, calling the killing of Israel civilians 'tragic' and 'unacceptable'

'The devastation in Israel is tragic and unacceptable. The murder and violence against innocent people by Hamas is terrorism,' he wrote in a letter signed by him and business partner Maverick Carter.

'The SpringHill Company [the pair's video production company] family sends our deepest condolences to Israel and the Jewish community. We pray for peace in the region and reiterate our continued commitment to fight hate in all its forms.

'We all must work to ensure this tragedy does not spread even more hate, racism and antisemitism.'

Harry and Meghan condemn 'all acts of terrorism and brutality' amid Israel war - after King Charles, William and Kate all labelled Hamas militants who massacred Israeli civilians 'terrorists'
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle today condemned 'all acts of terrorism and brutality' following the Hamas attack on Israel, as the couple spoke out following condemnation of the atrocities by the King and the Prince and Princess of Wales.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex also revealed they were 'supporting our partners and organisations on the frontlines in Israel to provide the urgent aid needed'.

In a message posted on their Archewell website under the title 'with heavy hearts', the couple said: 'At The Archewell Foundation, with Prince Harry and Meghan, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, we stand against all acts of terrorism and brutality.

'We are supporting our partners and organisations on the frontlines in Israel to provide the urgent aid needed, and to help all innocent victims of this unconscionable level of human suffering.'

The statement by the Sussexes was posted last night, but was first revealed on X, formerly known as Twitter, this morning by their favoured journalist Omid Scobie.

At 8.40am, Mr Scobie wrote: 'The Archewell Foundation, Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan last night released a short statement on the Israel-Hamas war.'

It comes hours after Harry's father King Charles III and his brother Prince William and sister-in-law Kate Middleton condemned the 'barbaric acts' and appalling 'horrors' inflicted by Hamas on Israel.

The royals’ deliberate use of the word ‘terrorism’ to describe the atrocities came in sharp contrast to the BBC, which refuses to call Hamas a ‘terrorist’ organisation. It refers to Hamas as a ‘militant’ group and described the slaughter of civilians as a ‘militant’ attack.
Kim Kardashian breaks silence on Hamas Israel attacks: Star tells Jewish friends and family she has 'heard how scared you feel' and says she is 'particularly sensitive' to killings due to Armenian genocide campaigning
Kim Kardashian has broken her silence on Hamas' attacks on Israel which has left at least 2,300 Israelis and Palestinians dead.

The reality star, 42, sent 'love and support to her Jewish friends and family' in an Instagram post on Wednesday in which she said she is 'particularly sensitive' to the atrocities due to her campaigning to stop another Armenian genocide.

1,200 Israelis were killed in Saturday's carnage, which begun when Hamas militants crossed from Gaza into Israel and murdered people at a music festival and in their homes near the border.

Kardashian's message read: 'A message to my Jewish friends and family. I love you. I support you. I have heard about how scared you feel during this time and I want you to know you are not alone in this.

'My heart is broken seeing the videos of these babies and families being terrorized and murdered in front of the whole world!
