David Harsanyi: No, rewarding Islamists with a Palestinian state isn’t the only option for Israel
It doesn’t have to be this way. Palestinian culture is steeped in generational, self-destructive, virulent animosity toward Jews that manifests in waves of extremism and violence.Netanyahu: Palestinian Authority can’t return to Gaza, this isn’t Oslo II
This was the case in the early 20th century when Arabs began sporadically massacring Jews before Israel existed, throughout the 1940s when Palestinian leadership embraced Hitler and during a post-war faux nationalism phase (also before Israel existed), in the 1960s when the Palestine Liberation Organization introduced the world to modern terrorism (before “occupied territories” existed), and to the present Islamist iteration of that violence.
Yet Palestinians and their defenders remain the only people in the world who think they can reset history every time they lose a war of aggression.
Their very claim to a state is contingent on the myth that Israel invaded and “occupied” the West Bank and Gaza (and Tel Aviv) in an act of colonialism, when the “occupied territories” were taken in defensive wars against Egypt and (the existing Palestinian-majority state of) Jordan.
But forget history.
Forget that you can dig anywhere in the ground and find ancient Jewish artifacts.
Forget that Israel offered Arabs back the land on numerous occasions in exchange for basic recognition.
More importantly, there is zero evidence that Palestinian self-governance will lead to more peace — quite the opposite, in fact.
Murphy’s notion that the only way to bring about coexistence is to reward the vilest act of Jewish murder since the Holocaust speaks to the destructive, insular, morally confused nature of the Brookings-approved DC blobthink.
Every time the sides revisit the negotiations on the terms dictated by these people, it ends in disappointment and, inevitably, violence.
Fortunately, this state can’t be willed into existence by Hamas-friendly newspaper editorial boards, nor by resolution-happy tyrants at the United Nations. What do you think? Post a comment.
And that’s fine. Just as there is no independent Hungarian nation in Transylvania and no Republic of Basque, there may never be a “Palestine” — or rather, a second Palestine (Jordan being the first).
Nothing says there has to be.
Yes, the situation might be intractable right now.
But that is no reason to make it worse.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu pledged not to repeat the mistakes made under the Oslo Accords by allowing the Palestinian Authority to return to Gaza after its military campaign to oust Hamas from that enclave is over.US: Palestinian Authority currently unfit to govern Gaza
“One thing for sure I am not doing. I am not ready to delude myself to say that the defective act that took place under Oslo through a terrible error” must now take place a second time with the return of a “hostile entity” to Gaza and the West Bank, he told reporters on Saturday night.
Netanyahu referenced the Palestinian Liberation Organization’s initial exit to Tunisia. He noted that this was a correct decision, adding that the error that had been made was to allow it to return in 1994 with through the Palestinian Authority under the auspices of the 1993 Oslo Accords.
“I won’t repeat this mistake and return this body to Gaza, because the same thing will happen,” he said. He referenced the 2007 coup in which Hamas ousted the PA’s Fatah party from Gaza and forcibly seized control of the enclave
The Palestinian leadership has split into two, Netanyahu said, but the ideology that denies Israel’s right to exist is common to both those who rule in the West Bank and in Gaza.
The Palestinian Authority is currently unfit to govern a post-Hamas Gaza Strip, White House National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said on Sunday.Israel's UN ambassador slams Soros for donations to 'pro-Hamas groups' seeking destruction of Jewish state
During an interview with ABC “This Week,” anchor George Stephanopoulos asked Kirby about Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s opposition to the P.A. playing any future role in Gaza due to its support for terrorism and promotion of Jew-hatred.
“What [Netanyahu] said was right now you’ve got an unreformed P.A. And that’s unacceptable to him. I would tell you that’s unacceptable to us too. We don’t believe the P.A. is in a position right now to be in—a credible control of governance in Gaza,” said Kirby.
He added that the administration wants a “reformed and revitalized Palestinian Authority” helping to govern the Strip.
“But whatever it looks like, and I’m not saying it has to be just the Palestinian Authority. We think that they should have a role, certainly. Whatever it looks like, though, George, it’s got to be responsive and representative of the Palestinian people, and certainly Hamas is not that,” he added.
Kirby also said that Jerusalem had been “receptive to our messages here in terms of trying to minimize civilian casualties.
“And I would tell you,” he continued, “we saw that as they went into north Gaza. They did it in a more precise way, a smaller way. And just in the last 24, 48 hours, George, they published online a map of places where people could go to avoid combat, and where they could go where they could find safety from combat.
“There’s not a whole lot of modern militaries that would do that. I mean that you know, so, to telegraph their punches in that way. So, they are making an effort,” added the spokesman.
Left-wing activist billionaire George Soros is facing intense criticism from Israel’s ambassador to the U.N. for pumping over $15 million into a network of nongovernmental organizations that allegedly support Hamas.David Collier: Cambridge University event plugs Steven Sizer group
"George Soros’ donations to organizations that seek the destruction of the State of Israel as a Jewish state is shameful. However, I am not surprised," Israeli ambassador Gilad Erdan told Fox News Digital.
Hamas launched a full-blown invasion into southern Israel Oct. 7, resulting in the mass murder of 1,200 people, including over 30 Americans. Hamas also took more than 200 hostages. American citizens were among civilians kidnapped by the jihadi terrorist entity.
"For years, Soros has backed and transferred money to organizations supporting BDS that want to isolate Israel," added Erdan, who has been leading the diplomatic campaign at the U.N. to spell out Hamas’ crimes against humanity. "They have never been about real peace or any solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict."
BDS is an abbreviation for the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions campaign targeting the Jewish state. The German and Austrian parliaments classified BDS as an antisemitic movement that resembles the Nazi boycott of Jewish businesses during the nascent phase of the Holocaust.
Rachel Ehrenfeld, author of "The Soros Agenda," told Fox News Digital, "Support of pro-Hamas, pro-Palestinian groups in the U.S. is not limited to foreign entities. It also comes directly and indirectly from U.S.-based foundations. George and Alexander Soros’ Open Society Foundations (OSF) is one of them."
Over a thousand pro-Palestinian protesters marched from Columbus Circle around midtown Manhattan, ending up at Grand Central Nov. 10, 2023. (Stephen Yang for Fox News Digital)
"Soon after he settled in the White House, Biden appointed Robert Malley as his special envoy to Iran," Ehrenfeld wrote in her book. "Malley is the former president and CEO of the Soros-funded, Brussels-based International Crisis Group, which, like Soros, has been criticizing Israel and praising Hamas. "
On 29 Nov, I spent 90 very-long minutes watching an anti-Zionist event at Cambridge. The event was advertised by the Cambridge Faculty of History. The title was ‘Jewish Solidarity with Palestinians: Antizionism, Activism and Liberation for All’.
In the middle of an awful episode in Jewish history – academics at Cambridge decided to bring together some of the fringe Jews that stand with antisemitic haters – so as to provide an orgy of lies, misinformation, and raw anti-Israel hatred.
Our Host – Dr Hana Morgenstern
Toxic events such as this only make it into the university space because of sympathetic faculty members. In this case it was Dr Hana Morgenstern. She is an Associate Professor in Postcolonial and Middle Eastern Literature at Cambridge. She was the only one at the event who didn’t actually speak, but her presence as the facilitator was her gift to the anti-Zionist world. Without her, there is no platform for this event.
I have previously discussed this issue of academic clones, with some campus spaces becoming conveyor belts for a series of anti-Zionist academics. Morgenstern achieved her PhD at Brown, and the acknowledgements section in her thesis is full of gushing praise for anti-Zionist academics such as Professor Ariella Azoulay. She was radicalised in the academic space and now she seeks to radicalise others. Morgenstern is a product of the demise of western academia.
Morgenstern recently signed a letter ‘from within the location of British imperial complicity, that opposed ‘Israeli settler colonial dispossession, ethnic cleansing, military occupation and apartheid’. The letter – signed by lots of brain-dead students and academics, even includes a reference to the bombing of al-Ahli al-Arabi Hospital, which as we all know – was caused by an Islamic Jihad rocket. Still, modern academia has little need for things such as facts anymore, and I am sure that the University of Cambridge is immensely proud that their academics are busy signing such nonsense.
Bottom line – if I was a Jewish student who needed Morgenstern’s academic approval to succeed – I would be both intimidated and scared. Such is the life of Jewish students these days. As it is, she helped put together an event that for an evening at least, turned Cambridge into a sewer of anti-Jewish hatred.
Melanie Phillips: Even now, the threat to British Jews is not being taken seriously
Classical antisemitism isn’t just prejudice or hatred. It’s based upon defaming Jewish people with the murderous lie that they are the source of all evil in the world.IDF expands ground op to southern Gaza Strip
If Israel (as implied by Cameron and Blinken) recklessly and needlessly kills huge numbers of Palestinian innocents, its behaviour is so abhorrent it doesn’t deserve to exist. If the Jewish state doesn’t deserve to exist, then Jews don’t deserve to exist. So there’s a direct line between defamation of Israel and attacks on Jews.
Moreover, this war against the Jews has been facilitated by the fantasies of western governments. The US and Britain deny the truth of the Palestinians’ war of extermination against Israel, because such a war requires not a “two-state solution” but the defeat of the Palestinians whom they refuse to acknowledge as aggressors. Similarly, the US and Britain have catastrophically appeased Iran in the inane belief that it could be tamed by extending the hand of friendship. Denying that Islamic extremism is rooted in an interpretation of Islam currently dominant in the Muslim world, the British government still refuses to outlaw Hizb ut-Tahrir, seen on the streets of London these past few weeks screaming for jihad, or ban the seditious and insurrectionary Muslim Brotherhood.
The more the Palestinians and the Iranian regime have waged war and terrorism again Israel, the more America and Britain have pressured Israel to compromise its security. The more extreme the violence perpetrated by Islamists against the west, the more the west fell over backwards to avoid any challenge to the Muslim world.
The result has been 100 years of Arab war against Israel, the empowerment of genocidal Iran, the progressive Islamisation of the west, the re-emergence of violent antisemitism and, exacerbated by Israel’s own catastrophic errors of judgment, the Hamas pogrom of October 7.
Those (of whom I am one) who have warned for years about these trends have been ignored, demonised and vilified as “right-wing,” “extremist” and “Islamophobic”, by Britain’s Jewish leadership no less than the wider establishment. And they still don’t get it.
The result is what we are now seeing playing out in front of our horrified eyes.
The Israel Defense Forces has begun its ground offensive in the southern Gaza Strip, north of the city of Khan Yunis.Jerusalem won’t confirm Blinken put time limit on IDF ops
IDF ground forces have already started to attack Hamas terrorist infrastructure in the area, IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi said on Sunday.
“It will be no less powerful than [the operations in northern Gaza], it will not have lesser results,” he stated, adding: “The Hamas commanders will be confronted by the IDF everywhere.
“Just as we operated powerfully and thoroughly in the north of the Gaza Strip, we have the capabilities to do so now in the south of Gaza,” Halevi continued.
Israeli troops engaged in heavy ground battles near Khan Yunis on Saturday after intelligence revealed Hamas leaders digging in in the city, the second-largest urban area in the Strip after Gaza City, the IDF chief continued.
The IDF resumed combat operations in Gaza on Friday morning after Hamas broke a week-long ceasefire by firing rockets at the Jewish state.
Defense Minister Yoav Gallant said on Saturday night that Jerusalem’s objective to dismantle Hamas remains unaltered.
“During the last two days, we operated in areas where we were not active over the last month, and this will increase and intensify,” he said. “This operation will reach every point that needs to be reached. We are going for the absolute elimination of the Hamas terror organization.
“The IDF has returned to fighting at full force—we are carrying on, exactly where we left off,” continued Gallant. “We are keeping our eyes on the goals of this war: defeating Hamas, destroying its governing and military capabilities—not allowing Hamas to continue its rule over Gaza—and returning the hostages to their homes.”
IDF Arabic-language Spokesman Lt. Col. Avichay Adraee said on Sunday that the military was continuing to evacuate Palestinians ahead of the expansion of the ground operation to the southern Gaza Strip.
The IDF has published a map splitting the area into scores of small zones, which will be used to notify civilians of impending active combat.
“The people of Gaza are not our enemies. For this reason, the IDF is leading controlled and specific evacuations in order to remove them as much as possible from areas of combat,” the military said in a message to Gaza residents.
An Israeli Prime Minister’s Office spokesman refused to confirm to JNS on Sunday the report of a tense exchange last week between U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken and members of Israel’s War Cabinet.Hezbollah continues attacks on north, prompting IDF strikes in Lebanon
In a leaked though unverified part of the Nov. 30 meeting reported by Channel 12, Blinken said that Israel doesn’t have months to deal with Hamas in the Gaza Strip, apparently suggesting that international support wouldn’t hold for that length of time.
His comment came in response to a remark by Defense Minister Yoav Gallant.
“All of Israeli society is united around the goal of dismantling Hamas—even if it takes months,” said Gallant.
To which Blinken replied: “I don’t think you will have the credit for that.”
Asked by JNS about the exchange, PMO spokesman Eylon Levy said, “We’re not going to comment on remarks that may or may not have been made behind closed doors in sensitive diplomatic discussions.”
However, he said Israel and the U.S. “see eye-to-eye about the goals of this war,” including the eventual “end of Hamas.”
Levy stressed that Washington stands behind Israel’s decision to resume hostilities after Hamas broke a week-long ceasefire on Friday.
The Israel Defense Forces struck Hezbollah sites in southern Lebanon in response to attacks on northern Israel Saturday, a day after the seven-day ceasefire between Israel and Hamas lapsed.Hezbollah missile from Lebanon wounds 12 in northern Israel
Though Hezbollah was not party to the truce, it halted its attacks during the past week leading Israel to also stop its military actions, but once again began assaulting Israel’s north after the Gaza pause collapsed.
Earlier in the day, two mortars were fired from Lebanon at the northern community of Shomera. Both projectiles landed in open areas, causing no injuries.
During the afternoon, several rockets were also fired at army posts along the border, the military said.
In both instances, the IDF said it shelled the source of fire with artillery. The military also said it carried out airstrikes against terror infrastructure in southern Lebanon.
Hezbollah claimed responsibility for the attacks throughout the day. On Friday, the terror group also launched attacks on the north as the war in Gaza restarted.
The military said sirens sounded in the Galilee in the evening. They were activated due to a combat helicopter downing a military drone that was identified as having a technical malfunction.
Ziv Medical Center in Safed admitted 12 people injuried by an anti-tank missile attack from Lebanon on Sunday.
One woman and 11 men between the ages of 20 and 65 were lightly wounded from shrapnel and the missile’s blast, the hospital said.
Several soldiers were lightly injured by fragments and a vehicle was damaged in the attack, the IDF said earlier.
It was unclear whether the other hospitalized victims were soldiers or civilians.
Hezbollah claimed responsibility for the attack on the army vehicle that was targeted in the area of Moshav Beit Hillel in the Eastern Galilee.
In addition, the IDF detected several launches in the Mount Dov area, some of which struck inside Lebanese territory.
Israel Defense Forces artillery targeted the sources of the fire.
The IDF updated in the late afternoon that fighter jets attacked Hezbollah targets in Lebanon and that several launches were detected from Lebanon toward Israeli territory, with IDF artillery attacking the sources of the fire.

Israeli airstrikes near Damascus early Saturday killed two Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps officers.
Iran said Mohammad Ali Atai Shoorcheh and Panah Taghizadeh were “martyred” while advising the Syrian military, and blamed “Zionists” for their deaths.
Last Sunday, Israel Air Force strikes damaged Damascus International Airport and other targets near the Syrian capital, according to local media reports.
The pro-regime Sham FM radio said the runways were struck, in at least the fourth such instance since Iran-backed Hamas terrorists in Gaza launched their cross-border assault on the Jewish state on Oct 7.
Israel has struck hundreds of targets in Syria in recent years as part of an effort to prevent Iranian military entrenchment in the country. However, Jerusalem rarely acknowledges these incidents.
A U.S. Navy destroyer and multiple commercial vessels have come under attack in the Red Sea, the Pentagon said on Sunday.
“We’re aware of reports regarding attacks on the USS Carney and commercial vessels in the Red Sea and will provide information as it becomes available,” the Pentagon said.
That region has been rocked by a series of attacks attributed to Yemen’s Iranian-backed Houthi rebels.
In a statement posted to X (formerly Twitter), Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Sarea claimed the group attacked “two Israeli ships in the Bab el-Mandeb Strait.”
The statement named the Bahamas-flagged bulk carrier Unity Explorer and the Panama-flagged container ship Number 9 as two of the ships that were attacked with missiles and UAVs. There was no immediate confirmation that there was any Israeli connection to the two vessels.
The Houthis vowed to “continue to prevent Israeli ships from navigating the Red and Arab Seas until the Israeli aggression against our steadfast brothers in the Gaza Strip stops.”
Maritime security company Ambrey said on Sunday that a British cargo ship may have been struck by a missile.

Israeli Minister_ Michelle Obama Has Refused to Condemn October 7 Attack on Israeli Women; 'Silence'
May Golan, Minister for the Advancement of the Status of Women of Israel, said Saturday that she had approached former U.S. First Lady Michelle Obama to condemn attacks on Israeli women by Hamas on October 7 — and been met with complete silence.
Golan, a member of the ruling Likud party, spoke to host Erel Segal on Israel’s Channel 14, in the course of an interview about the broader failure of women’s rights organizations to condemn allegations of sexual violence against women during the terror attack.
The following exchange ensued (translated from Hebrew):ืืฉืจื ืืื ืืืื ื ืื ืืืฉื ืืืืื: "ืฉืืืชื ืื ืขืืืช ืืืชื ืืืช ืฉื ืืืืขื, ืื ืื ื ืืืืขืื ืฉืืคื ืืื ืืชืงืืื. ืืื ืื ืืขืืื ืคืืืืืืช, ืืื ืืืืื ืืืืื ืืืืื - ืืื ืฉืชืืงื ืืื ื"#ืืฉืจืื_ื ืืืืช@ErelSegal @GolanMay pic.twitter.com/2SvNwSzQeR

Golan: Not a word. And we approached her, I tell you
Host: Oh, this is new. You approached Michelle Obama —
Golan: Unambigously.
Host: — please condemn the case of the slaughter of the 7th of October, and Michelle Obama did not agree to condemn it?
Golan: I’ll the you more than that. ‘Bigger Hamas hideouts than al-Shifa hospital’: US college omits references to Jewish students
Sky News host James Morrow says American college campuses are “bigger Hamas hideouts than al-Shifa hospital” as the Brown University President omitted references to Jewish students after heckling from pro-Palestinian activists.
Mr Morrow says Christina Paxson, president of the “wokest of the woke Ivy League universities”, scrubbed any mention of Jewish students and staff from her speech at a vigil for a Palestinian student wounded in a shooting, after pro-Palestinian activists interrupted her during her speech.
“The president of the university was trying to give some whole speech about ‘we’re coming together’ and all the anti-Semitism and Islamophobia, and all of that … the whole both sides routine,” Mr Morrow said.
“The original text said that this should be a campus where everybody feels safe to wear a yarmulke or a hijab.
“And because the Palestinian, the pro-Hamas mob there were all screaming at her, she simply said safe to wear a hijab.
“[She] eliminated all references … to Jewish students feeling safe – two or three references, she took them all out.”
‘Far-left lunacy’: Sydney University wants to ‘decolonise’ and engage in truth-telling process
Sky News host Rita Panahi says Sydney University’s anti-racism statement which aims to “decolonise” and engage in a truth-telling process is “far-left lunacy”.
University of Sydney Vice-Chancellor Mark Scott told staff in an email on Tuesday he was “dismayed” by the racism and “divisions” in Australia which have been exposed by the war in Gaza and the Voice to Parliament referendum.
“You’ll be thrilled to know Sydney University has released its anti-racism statement, because we’ve just been waiting for that with bated breath,” Mr Panahi said.
“Sydney’s largest and oldest university is going to be investigating its own history of racism - it wants to decolonise itself and also engage in a truth-telling process.
“They should actually be reflecting on how they got to this point, not engaging in more behaviour that’s going to make the situation worse.
“The way that we got to this point is by this far-left lunacy – this echo chamber – where any dissenting views are demonised, where no one can cope with anything that doesn’t fit their world view – they need a safe space from conservatives.
“Instead of reflecting on how damaging that is, they’re doubling down.”

Civilian Hero Fatally Shot in Tragic Mistake by IDF Soldiers During Jerusalem Terror Attack
A civilian who intervened to stop a Palestinian terror attack in Jerusalem on Thursday has tragically died after Israeli soldiers mistakenly took the man for a terrorist and shot him.Father of 'hero' civilian killed by IDF soldier calls for indictment
Yuval Doron Castleman, 37, was on his way to work at a nearby government complex, according to his family, when he saw the attack and headed to the scene. Having served in the Israeli security forces, Castleman shot and killed a terrorist, after which, according to video released from the scene, he seemed to momentarily enter the terrorists’ car and upon exiting it was shot at.
Castleman threw his gun down and put up his hands, yelling “don’t shoot.” However, he was shot again and taken to the hospital, where he died later in the day. Friday would have been his 38th birthday.
“Yuval noticed a terrorist attack from the other side of the road while driving to his job at the government complex, and stopped his car to stop the terrorists,” Israel’s Channel 13 quoted his family as saying on Friday. “He had previously served in the security forces and was always a hero and the first to jump in and save lives, which he did this time as well.”
The Hamas terror group claimed responsibility for Thursday’s attack at a a bus station in Jerusalem, where Palestinian terrorists opened fire, murdering three people and injuring several others.
Hamas said in a statement that the two perpetrators were “jihad-waging martyrs,” adding that the terrorist attack was in response to Israel’s war against Hamas in Gaza.
As for Castleman’s death, the Israel Police and the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) are investigating his shooting.
“The findings of the investigation so far indicate that during the attack, one of the IDF soldiers identified and mistakenly suspected the late Yuval — who acted bravely and courageously to neutralize the terrorists — as a third terrorist,” police said. “The same soldier also fired at him which led to his serious injury and tragic death.”
Nearly 1/3 of Israeli Arabs deny Hamas targeted women, kids
Thirty-two percent of Israeli Arabs do not believe that Hamas terrorists intentionally targeted women and children during the Oct. 7 massacre, according to a newly published survey from Tel Aviv University.
Forty-four percent of Israeli Arabs do not feel that Israel’s response to the Hamas attack was justified while 38% believe that both Israel and Hamas share responsibility for the outbreak of war, the Moshe Dayan Center for Middle Eastern and African Studies polling conducted after the start of the war also found.
A total of 502 Israeli Arab citizens over 18 were surveyed. The Konrad Adenauer Program for Jewish-Arab Cooperation initiated the study.
According to the data, 21% of Israeli Arabs think that the mass murder of Oct. 7 contributed to a solution to the Palestinian problem.
Thousands of Hamas terrorists invaded the northwestern Negev from the Gaza Strip on Oct. 7, killing some 1,200 persons and wounding thousands more. At least 240 Israelis and foreign nationals were taken back to Gaza as hostages.
A large majority of the Arab population (85%) approve of the initiatives by Arab citizens to help the residents of the communities surrounding the Gaza Strip. About half (54%) also approve of Arab Israelis participating in global advocacy efforts on behalf of Israel.
Israeli citizenship (33%) slightly edges Arab identity (32%) as the two most dominant components of Arab personal identity, with 8% saying Palestinian identity is the dominant component.
“The war between Israel and Hamas, which began almost two months ago, has generated an unprecedented change in the positions of Israel’s Arab citizens. First and foremost, many identify with the communities of Otef Aza [the ‘Gaza envelope’] and with Israel’s efforts to present its positions to the world,” said Dr. Arik Rudnitzky, head of the Konrad Adenauer Program for Jewish-Arab Cooperation.
“Identification with Israel is manifested in the fact that for the first time, and in contrast to all previous surveys, civic Israeli identity plays as strong a role as national Arab identity for Arab Israelis,” he added.
