One is to capture videos of Israeli forces using violence against "peaceful worshipers," but the other may be to have an excuse to fire rockets at Israel - rockets that Israel is sure to respond to with relatively minor airstrikes, allowing Hamas to show off their anti-aircraft weapons and look powerful to Palestinians and the Arab world.
I wouldn't be surprised if this isn't an Iranian initiative.
