A deputy in the Lebanese Parliament, Inaya Ezz El-Din, said that "the large amount of tar that spread on the shores of southern Lebanon as a result of the Israeli environmental aggression on them is estimated at about two tons."
Hezbollah's Al Manar said that the the spill came from an "oil spill from a tanker belonging to the Israeli enemy near the shores of occupied Palestine."
Jordan's Roya News similarly said the leak came from an "Israeli Occupation ship's leak." It credited AFP with the story but AFP didn't write that.
If anything bad happens, many people assume it must be the Jews' fault.
Meanwhile, Israel is trying to find the source for the spill, and it has investigated a number of oil ships that were in the Mediterranean without finding a culprit yet out of dozens of suspected sources.
Greenpeace says that there are as many as twelve oil spills in the Mediterranean visible from satellite images in the days before the slick hit Israel's shores. They could be from tankers or from exploratory wells.
