Ruthie Blum: Mahmoud Abbas plays Benny Gantz for a fool
Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz must have known that hosting Palestinian Authority leader Mahmoud Abbas at his home in Rosh Ha’ayin would arouse the ire of the right. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have cloaked the outcome of his tête-à-tête last Tuesday night with the octogenarian honcho in Ramallah in typically euphemistic language.

Following the meeting, Gantz tweeted that he and Abbas had “discussed the implementation of economic and civilian measures, and emphasized the importance of deepening security coordination and preventing terror and violence—for the well-being of both Israelis and Palestinians.”

His office subsequently released the details of a slew of so-called “confidence-building measures,” a phony term suggesting some kind of mutual arrangement that actually means Israeli concessions. These include: VAT, import-tax and excise-duty benefits; a NIS 100 million ($32.2 million) loan; more than 1,000 permits for Palestinian businessmen entering Israel by car; dozens of VIP permits for P.A. officials; and the legalization of the status of 9,500 undocumented Palestinians and foreign nationals living in Judea, Samaria and Gaza.

The above benefits are in addition to the 500-million-shekel ($160 million) “loan” that Gantz vowed to provide the P.A. after convening with Abbas in Ramallah at the end of August.

Despite the left’s fantasy of a return to the misnamed “peace process” that’s been on hold since 2010, the reason for Jerusalem’s unwarranted generosity towards Ramallah over the past few months is that it’s in “Israel’s interest” to keep the financially strapped P.A. from collapsing.

The tragic irony is that one cause of the P.A.’s dire straits is Israel’s deduction of hundreds of millions of shekels from the taxes on Palestinian imports and exports that it collects on behalf of Ramallah. Offering Abbas compensation for this move—aimed, like the Taylor Force Act passed by the U.S. Congress in 2018, to coerce the P.A. to cease its “pay-for-slay” policy—is a twisted, back-door reversal of sound Israeli legislation.
Did Biden Help Finance Hamas Rocket Attacks on Israel?
When the Biden administration colluded with the South Korean government to free up billions in Iranian assets early last year, the move may have had serious consequences in Israel.

Later in 2021, Hamas launched 4,300 rockets at targets across Israel, including Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, hitting a synagogue, and killing 13 people, including 2 children.

Now the Islamic terror group is at it again.

Hamas boss Ismail Haniyeh recently revealed to Al Jazeera that its terror campaign would not have been possible without the $70 million provided by Iran to fund its war machine.

The Hamas leader described the rocket attacks that took place in the spring of last year as a "rehearsal for the liberation of the Palestinian territories from the occupation".

That's code for the destruction of Israel.

As Hamas once again renews its rocket attacks, including two that landed near Tel Aviv, it’s impossible to understand the actions of the terrorist group without looking toward Tehran.

The Muslim Brotherhood’s weapons capabilities are almost entirely dependent on Iran.
Claims of Occupation and Illegal Settlements as Excuse for Call to Genocide
The sooner that those who despise Israel realize that by bashing Israel and the Jewish people they are supporting agendas of corrupt self-serving bad operatives, who stand for everything that they, personally, vigorously condemn, the better it will be for the free world. It is not difficult to see that these corrupt self-serving operatives support terror and do not care about human rights, equal rights, women’s freedom, or even their own innocent children. They do not hesitate to brainwash their own children and their oblivious supporters, only to exploit them later.

Unfortunately, many, if not most, of those who support these bad operatives, will end up becoming their victims, as we are seeing across the globe. Examples of this have been well-documented – some became human shields to protect dictators, others lost their personal freedom due to becoming accomplices to terrorists, and others undermined their own wellbeing by joining the wrong groups.

Once one knows and understands the ways in which many of these bad operatives think and act, it becomes obvious that they cannot be appeased, accommodated, or converted into peace-loving individuals. For the Radical Muslims, even if Israel made the most generous concessions, including committing national suicide and closing down the country, the Radical Muslims would continue to move toward conquering the entire Land of Israel and the rest of the free world, with the intended dream of imposing the rules of Radical Islam and Shariah law across the globe. For the Radical Left, it would not stop their desire to gain absolute power and totalitarian domination, such as we are seeing currently in China, Russia, Cuba, Venezuela and North Korea. For the Radical Right, their level of brainwashing would be very difficult to reverse easily. They would need a durable, extended, and wise program of proper education, that would address their wild conspiracy theories and irrational principles. The rehabilitation program would have to start at an early age and include the adults too.

Providing these groups with financial support and political recognition and connections will only make them better-financed and better-connected malicious operatives, and it will not make our world a better or more peaceful place.

This very important information must be shared with the oblivious anti-Israeli Jewish people, with the confused EU and USA leadership, and with so many others who irrationally support the terror-promoting Middle Eastern groups and countries.

To be able to have a better future for all good people, we must wake up and unite, we must educate as many people as possible with truthful facts and with honorable values, and we must expose and marginalize the bad operatives, as to give the free world the chance to thrive and ultimately excel.

Eugene Kontorovich : The International Community Never Cared about the Arabs
Legal scholar Eugene Kontorovich joins JNS editor-in-chief Jonathan Tobin to discuss the way international law is used to delegitimize Israel and Jewish rights in Jerusalem and the land of Israel.

The two talk about recent controversies over the Biden administration’s efforts to reopen a consulate to the Palestinians in Jerusalem, the legal status of settlements and why the international community is determined to invalidate Jewish property rights in Jerusalem.

Israel expects to establish ties with Comoros, Maldives next — sources
The leading candidates to normalize ties with Israel next are the Muslim-majority island nations of The Comoros and Maldives, according to diplomatic sources.

The sources said there were ongoing contacts. However, there were no indications from diplomatic sources that an announcement was expected anytime in the near future.

The Comoros, a small archipelago in the Indian ocean, has never recognized Israel, but Israeli officials confirmed last October that the US had brought Comorian and Israeli officials together to discuss normalization.

The country initiated The Hague’s six-year engagement with the Gaza flotilla incident in May 2013, when it asked the ICC’s prosecutor to investigate the Israeli raid on the Gaza-bound Mavi Marmara three years earlier, during which troops clashed with pro-Palestinian activists.

The Maldives, on the other hand, once had diplomatic ties with Israel. Israel was the third state to recognize the island republic, and the Israeli ambassador was the first to present his credentials to the Maldives’ president. However, diplomatic relations were suspended in 1974.
Gantz, Jordan’s King Abdullah Talk Regional Security in Latest High-Level Meeting
Israel’s Defense Ministry Benny Gantz on Wednesday met with Jordan’s King Abdullah II to discuss security and policy issues and to strengthen efforts for regional stability.

During the meeting in Amman, Gantz emphasized the “strategic importance” of the strong and enduring relationship Israel has with Jordan, which he said contributes to the security and prosperity of both nations.

Gantz thanked King Abdullah for his “leadership” and Jordan’s “critical role in maintaining regional peace and stability.”

The Israeli defense minister praised the deepening of ties with Jordan since Prime Minister Naftali Bennett took office, expressing his commitment to further develop security, economic and civil relations.

King Abdullah emphasized the need for maintaining calm in the Palestinian territories, and called for “necessary measures to create the horizon needed to achieve just and comprehensive peace, on the basis of the two-state solution.”

Gantz was accompanied by his Chief of Staff, Maayan Israeli, the ministry’s director of the Policy and Political-Military Bureau, Zohar Palti, and Military Secretary Yaki Dolf.

Israel: Controversial Electricity Bill Passes Into Law
Israel’s Prime Minister Naftali Bennett and his coalition on Wednesday passed into law a controversial electricity bill, which will allow tens of thousands of illegally built Arab homes in Israel to be hooked up to electricity, water, and telephone lines.

The final vote passed 61-0 after the opposition boycotted the vote in protest against the coalition’s handling of the debate.

“I will not participate in this farce,” opposition leader Benjamin Netanyahu said, Jerusalem Post reported.

Netanyahu is now expected to convene the heads of right-wing parties to consider boycotting the Knesset.

Members of the opposition party Likud heckled Bennett and MK Nir Orbach, a member of the coalition party Yamina, for voting against an amendment that called for hooking up illegal Israeli outposts in the West Bank to similar utilities.

Bennett stood up and verbally confronted the Likud members taunting Orbach.

Following the vote on the outpost amendment, the opposition walked out of the final vote on the electricity bill.

Technical malfunction behind deadly IDF helicopter crash
The military believes a serious technical malfunction caused the crash of an Israel Navy helicopter off the coast of Haifa on Monday night. Two IAF pilots died after their helicopter, an Atalef AS565 Panther, went down around 9 p.m.

The crash was likely due to a fire that broke out in the left engine, IAF OC Operations Brig.-Gen. Amir Lazar said. The crew was able to lower to an altitude to carry out an emergency landing on the sea after the fire caused a power failure, which is likely why they were unable to make a distress call, he said.

It took one and half to two minutes from when a fire was noticed in the engine to when the helicopter crashed, Lazar said. The crew was able to deploy the flotation devices that gave the navy the ability to locate the helicopter.

The officer who survived the crash, Capt. Ron Birman, called the squadron commander from his telephone and told him they had made an emergency landing at sea. Birman made an unsuccessful attempt to rescue the other crew members, Lazar said.

It is still unclear why the two pilots were unable to exit the helicopter, and the exact cause of their deaths is yet to be determined.
Palestinian teens weigh in on recent uptick in violence
In late November, teacher and Hamas member Fadi Abu Shkhaydam shot and killed Eliyahu Kay, a former Israeli soldier, and wounded four others.

Abu Shkhaydam was shot to death on the scene by Israeli security forces.

In front of Damascus Gate - an entry into Jerusalem’s Old City and a key flashpoint in the latest escalation of conflict - a pair of Palestinian teens explained why attacks on Israelis occur.

“Psychological pressure, the occupation, everything,” one teen said.

“When [Israel’s military] comes to search your home… they tear up your furniture, mess up your home, and harass the women. You wouldn’t just stand there.”

Another Palestinian boy had a different approach, saying violence isn’t the answer.

“Killing one Jew doesn’t change anything. When we fight our enemy, we should do so with our education, not with weapons or stones.”

When asked about the future, one teen expressed the inner conflict of his desire to leave.

“I want to go and live abroad… Everyone thinks this way,” he told i24NEWS.

“But the problem is that if everyone thinks like me, this land will become theirs (Jews) easily.”

Terrorist Who Murdered Yehuda Guetta in 2021 Gets Two Life Sentences
An Israeli military court on Wednesday sentenced Palestinian-American Muntasir Ahmed Ali Shalabi to two life sentences for the murder of Yehuda Guetta, 19, in May 2021.

The court also ruled that Shalabi must pay Guetta’s family 1 million shekels ($323,000).

Shalabi killed Guetta and wounded two other students in a drive-by shooting near Ariel in Samaria. He was convicted on Aug. 3, 2021, of premeditated homicide, building and carrying weapons and interfering with legal proceedings.

Attorney Chayim Bleicher of the Honenu legal aid organization, who is representing Guetta’s family, said in response to the sentence: “We hope that the cursed terrorist will end his life inside prison as the sentence mandates, but the story isn’t over. The war on terrorism cannot end with criminal punishment alone. In a war, the enemy must be attacked in every possible arena.

“The Israeli government must take harsh steps against an environment of terrorism, including severe punishments for those who aid and abet it. The terrorist’s clan should be exiled from Israel and war waged against any demonstration of incitement to or support for terrorism.”

After Shalabi was convicted, Guetta’s father, Elisha, asked that he be sentenced to death.

Fatah Day 2022 in UNRWA Dehaishe refugee camp
The Center for Near East Policy Research has publicized the following video.

American and European taxpayers, please note:

Mahmoud Abbas' defenders are Fatah.

This is how money donated to UNRWA is being spent.

This is how young Arab Palestinians are being educated to become the next generation of terrorists, perhaps the United Nations' idea of peace partners.

There are no false images here to lull the West into complacency. This is what they are saying:

"We will liberate...Akko and Haifa and Jerusalem//."

"Jews are garbage..."

MEMRI: Fatah's 57th Anniversary Rallies In Ramallah And Elsewhere In The Palestinian Authority Feature Armed Activists, Models Of Rockets
The Fatah movement marked its 57th anniversary with mass rallies on December 30 and 31, 2021 glorifying the armed struggle against Israel; some of the rallies were attended by senior Fatah officials.[1] These gatherings prominently featured armed, masked activists from Fatah's military wing, the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, despite the fact that Palestinian Authority (PA) outlawed it nearly 15 years ago, in 2007.[2] The rallies included activists carrying models of rockets and waving posters of Fatah terrorists; also participating were young children, some of them also masked and carrying weapons.

It is noteworthy that models of rockets were also an element of the rallies marking the anniversary of the founding of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), which were held recently on the campus of Birzeit University, north of Ramallah.[3]

This report will present examples of militarization at the rallies marking the Fatah anniversary:

Fatah Deputy Chairman At December 30 Manara Square Rally In Ramallah: "Fatah Believes In All Types Of Resistance"
In his speech at a December 30 Fatah rally at the central Manara Square in Ramallah, movement deputy chairman Mahmoud Al-'Aaloul stressed that the Palestinian people would not stop its struggle and its "resistance to the occupation" until it achieves freedom and independence,[4] and that Fatah believes in "all types" of resistance."[5]

Al-'Aaloul extended greetings to prisoners Marwan Barghouti and Karim Younes, two Fatah Central Committee members who are serving lengthy sentences in Israeli prison for involvement in the murders of Israelis, ,[6] and to other Fatah prisoners including Maher Younes, a cousin of Karim Younes, who is serving a 40-year sentence for the murder of an Israeli soldier; Fouad Al-Shubaki, who was the PA official in charge of bringing the Karin A weapons ship to Gaza in 2002, who is serving a 20-year sentence; and Zakaria Zubeidi, Fatah Revolutionary Council member and former commander of the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades in Jenin, who was arrested several times for involvement in terror attacks. Likewise, Al-'Aaloul sent greetings to PFLP secretary-general Ahmad Sa'adat, who is serving a 30-year sentence for the 2001 murder of Israeli Tourism Minister Rehavam Ze'evi.[7]

A video of the rally shows the master of ceremonies calling on Fatah members to "wave your rifles."[8]

On Fatah anniversary, Abbas honors “brave” terrorist prisoner “heroes”

Fatah hasn’t abandoned terror, says its Deputy Chairman

In hunger-striking Palestinian, Islamic Jihad bent Israel to its whim
Both PIJ and Hamas managed to put Israel in a tight corner with Abu Hawash's hunger strike.

Israeli security officials mulled over two possible scenarios: either Abu Hawash would die in the hospital and his death would most likely have lead to a renewed round of fighting, or he would be released and the drums of war would be silenced.

Israel choose the second option in order to maintain some peace on the southern frontier at least for the short term. But in the long term, they showed the terror groups that they can force Israel to bend to their whims by threatening violence.

There are some within the security echelon, who experienced mixed feelings with releasing Abu Hawash. As far as they were concerned, a day or two of fighting is a small price to pay when examining the whole hunger strike strategy and the new ace up Hamas and PIJ's sleeve.

But two matters still remain unresolved:

If Israel understands that it will ultimately seek to reach an agreement with the Gaza factions, why would it allow violence to break out? And if the next hunger-striking Palestinian prisoner is now only a matter of time, maybe it is time for Israel to reexamine the administrative detentions all together, going forward.

JCPA: The Other (Ugly) Face of Lebanon
The dire economic situation in Lebanon and the paralysis of its governing structures trigger an emotional reaction of self-identification among observers and laypeople with a country that has known better days. The mere allusion to Lebanon coxes a smile and a longing for a state of welfare, opulence, and an example of sectarian co-existence unequaled in the Arab and Muslim world, framed by golden beaches, snowy mountains, fancy hotels, and restaurants. In short, the “Switzerland of the Middle East,” when Beirut was the “Paris of the Middle East.”

In fact, “that Lebanon” has existed only in the imagination of most observers. The events that unfolded since October 2019 have revealed the other face of Lebanon: a corrupt state in which politicians and laypeople have plundered the national treasury, and its sectarian regime, which has led to political paralysis.

The black list seems endless:
Day after day, scandals erupt around officials and politicians who have joined efforts to rob the state and the public funds;
rivers of garbage flood the cities;
electricity was a tool used for financial manipulation, which led to the energy crisis;
the medical crisis saw the desertion of 40% of Lebanese physicians and drove 30% of the nurses to better havens;
the incredible confession of Druze politician Walid Jumblatt who transferred $500 million out of the country;
a governor of Lebanon’s central bank was investigated over assets accumulated in Europe and elsewhere;
the depletion of foreign currency has caused the local currency to dwindle to a rate never reached before – from 8,400 Lebanese Liras to the Dollar at the beginning of 2021 to 30,000 Lebanese Liras today;
erratic inflation;
and massive flux and depletion of manpower from the army now forced to beg for meals and contributions from abroad, even offering helicopter sightseeing trips to beef up its operational funds.

Suffice it to say that almost a quarter of a million Lebanese have left in the first quarter of 2021 to join a growing diaspora that until now has saved Lebanon through expatriates’ money transfers. Funds transferred to Lebanon after the port explosion of Beirut, which devastated a third of the capital city, have disappeared, and the reconstruction effort is stuck with no end in sight. Lebanese citizens are forbidden to withdraw their money from the national banks and have been allowed to withdraw only small sums at given times. This did not stop the outflow of six billion dollars in less than three months after the decision was made to block all transfers of foreign currency to the outer world!
MEMRI: Lebanese Journalist: Contrary To Hizbullah's Narrative Of 'Victory Over Israel', The Truth Is That Lebanon Is In The Pits Of Crisis Whereas Israel Is At The Pinnacle Of Success
In a recent article titled "Victorious Lebanon and Defeated Israel," Shi'ite Lebanese journalist Nadim Koteich, a known Hizbullah opponent, mocks the narrative of "victory over Israel" that this organization has been marketing, especially since the Israeli withdrawal from South Lebanon in 2000. In the article – which was posted on the Asas Media website, owned by Lebanese former interior minister Nohad Al-Machnouk, of the March 14 Forces – Koteich wonders what has happened to this victory. How, he asks, did Lebanon and Hizbullah deteriorate from this pinnacle of triumph to the pits of the present economic crisis, whereas the Israel rose from this "defeat" and conquered pinnacles of success in the arenas of global technology, innovation and high-tech? He illustrates his point by describing the vast difference between Israel's attractive booth at the Expo 2020 in Dubai and Lebanon's poor one, which, Koteich says, reveal to the world that it is Lebanon that is defeated and still mired in the past, whereas Israel is victorious and future-oriented.

The following are translated excerpts from his article:[1]
"'Lebanon the victorious and Israel the defeated' – In order to reflect the issue accurately, there is no point in considering defeat and victory in any logical sense [of these terms], because the claim about Israel's defeat is Hizbullah's central claim, so much so that it has become [central to] its party and sectarian identity... Hizbullah does not let anyone question its 'victory,' and insists on it more than ever when it comes to Israel.

"So… let's not argue with Hizbullah about whether it defeated Israel or Israel defeated Hizbullah, along with [the rest of] us. [Instead,] let's ask it why it has slipped, along with us, from the pinnacle of victory into the pits of defeat, while Israel has climbed from the pits of defeat to the throne of many victories. How is it that, 15 years after [the 2006 war between Hizbullah and Israel], Israel has overcome its 'defeat' while we have squandered our 'victory'[?]

"In September [2021], the World Health Organization assessed that Lebanon, once the hospital for the entire Middle East, has lost 40% of its doctors and 30% of its nurses since 2019. Most of them left [the country] this year, according to the Lebanese Order of Nurses. In addition, [it has been reported that] the American University in Beirut – which, along with the [Saint Joseph] Jesuit University, played an important part in the founding of Lebanon – intends to open a campus in the UAE. Naturally, it is not doing so as part of expanding or decentralizing its activity… This is simply a case of 'migration,' in the full sense of the term.[2] The report about the 'migration' of the American University [from Beirut] is accompanied by shameful reports about three Lebanese universities that sold tens of thousands of academic diplomas in the Iraqi 'market'!![3] Similar or even more alarming data can be found regarding other [Lebanese] sectors, such as [our] industry…
UN peacekeeping forces attacked in southern Lebanon near Israeli border
Unknown perpetrators attacked a group of United Nations peacekeepers in southern Lebanon, vandalizing their vehicles and stealing official items from them, a UN official said Wednesday.

Such scuffles with UN peacekeepers are not uncommon in southern Lebanon since the peacekeeping force was expanded following the 2006 war between Israel and the Lebanese militant Hezbollah group.

The UN force, known as UNIFIL, called on Lebanese authorities to “investigate quickly and thoroughly, and prosecute all those responsible for these crimes,” said Kandice Ardiel, a UNIFIL press official. She added that the attack occurred on Tuesday night.

Local media reported that residents of the southern town of Bint Jbeil scuffled with Irish peacekeepers who they said were taking photographs of residential homes. The reports added that the UN force was not accompanied by Lebanese troops.

Bint Jbeil is a Hezbollah stronghold and large parts of it were destroyed during the 2006 war.

Ardiel said that contrary to the disinformation being spread, the peacekeepers were not taking photos and were not on private property. She added that the peacekeepers were on their way to meet members of the Lebanese army for a routine patrol.

“UNIFIL condemns attacks on men and women serving the cause of peace, which are violations of both Lebanese and international law,” Ardiel said, adding that UNIFIL also condemns those who manipulate local residents to serve their purposes.
Iran's "Nuclear Blackmail": Iran Has No Interest in Negotiating a New Nuclear Deal
"If the Iranians think the world does not seriously intend to stop them, they will race towards the bomb. We must make it clear that the world will not allow this to happen. There needs to be a credible military threat on the table." — Yair Lapid, Israeli Foreign Minister, interview with the author, December, 2021.

Mr Lapid's calls have been echoed by US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan who, following talks with Mr Bennett in Jerusalem, called for world powers to adopt a "common strategy" for dealing with Iran.

Mr Lapid's concerns about Iran's approach to the Vienna talks are supported by Western security officials closely monitoring the negotiations, who state that, far from taking a constructive approach to the negotiations, the Iranians are simply playing for time.

In the meantime Iran has sought to string out the negotiations in Vienna by concentrating on relatively minor issues, such as whether UN inspectors can have surveillance cameras operating at key sites. Iran's obstructive conduct, moreover, is being backed by Russia and China, which were also signatories to the 2015 deal but now want to embarrass the Biden administration by ensuring the current round of talks end in failure.

The hardline approach being adopted by Tehran certainly makes the prospect of military action to destroy Iran's nuclear facilities more likely in 2022, with US military officials confidently asserting that, if military option is required, it would be possible to target Iran's entire nuclear programme.

The big question that remains, though, is whether, if the talks do fail, Mr Biden will have the resolve to initiate military action, or will instead seek to hit Iran with more -- ineffective -- sanctions.

In the meantime, Tehran continues to work on its controversial uranium enrichment activities so that, unless urgent action is taken soon, the world could soon find itself having to confront a nuclear-armed Iran.
After Threats, Israeli FM Says Iran ‘Will Continue to Lose Battle’ to Annihilate Jewish State
Israeli Foreign Minister Yair Lapid said on Tuesday that Iran will fail to destroy his country, after his Iranian counterpart issued the latest in a long string of threats against the Jewish state.

“The extremist Iranian regime threatens Israel with annihilation but will continue to lose this battle,” Lapid wrote on social media. “Their failed leadership is destroying Iran from within. In the words of the Iranian poet Saadi: ‘He whose essence is evil, will forever remain so.'”

His remarks, which were posted in English, Hebrew, and Persian, came after Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian tweeted on Monday, “We will forcefully and rationally defend the rights, interests and progress of the Iranian people,” according to a translation by Tehran Times. “Zionism has no place in the future of the world.”

The online exchange took place after Lapid indicated in a Friday interview that Israel has the military capabilities to target Iran’s nuclear facilities and weapons sites. “Israel will do whatever it needs to do to protect its security,” he reiterated, and said the country does not require external permission to act.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson warned Iran on Tuesday that time was running out to salvage its 2015 nuclear accord with major powers. Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett said he spoke with Johnson about the ongoing talks to revive the nuclear deal, which resumed in Vienna on Monday. Israel has opposed the 2015 pact, saying it failed to block Iran’s path to nuclear weapons capability and strengthened the regime.

“Iranians should know that it is their regime that is making their lives miserable,” Lapid tweeted Tuesday. “The State of Israel is strong and will not allow its citizens to be harmed.”
