"Comrade" Kayed al-Ghoul, a member of the political bureau of the Marxist Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, spoke about Mahmoud Abbas' acknowledgment of the Holocaust during a television interview.

Ghoul said, "These statements reflect the principled and ethical position of the Palestinian people against Nazi fascism against humanity, including Jews, regardless of the numbers that are being circulated as victims of the Holocaust.

Ghoul added, "The Zionist movement has exploited the Holocaust and Jewish suffering in the promotion and establishment of its racist, fascist colonial entity at the expense of the Palestinian people, and the governments of the Israeli occupation of successive did not draw the lessons of the Holocaust, but rather re-produced and practiced the policies that the Nazis perpetrated, including massacres and violations of the rights of the Palestinian people and the rights of the Arab peoples. This requires the international community to deal with the state of the occupation and its policies the same way that they dealt with Nazism and its crimes against humanity."

This seems to be much closer to what Abbas really meant than how his statement is being spun by the media.

Egyptian newspaper Al Talyia News has an article by columnist Ghada Abd El Moneim (translated by Shawarma News):

We received news of a (classified) CIA report that was leaked by the Egyptian General Intelligence, the report points to the truth of the information circulating in the Arab region about the brutality and secret rituals practiced by the Jews in their festivals such as Passover and Chanukah, including the slaughter of non-Jews and offering human sacrifices to the God, and confirming that Jewish extremists of Palestinian origin did kill a number of children to mix their blood (for the baking) of matzos for Chanukah every now and then, as well as confirming their killing of foreign children from African countries, Palestinian, Egyptian, Moroccan children, Egyptian prisoners of war, Palestinian prisoners to use their blood for the baking of matzos for Chanukah.
The article links to a lengthy YouTube video that purports to prove how Jews ritually murder Christians.

Moneim also posted the article on her Facebook page.

As usual, it is impossible to find any articles in Egypt - or even comments to these articles - that say that the blood libel is a lie.

Oh, and a major Egyptian newspaper, Al Masry Al Youm, had an article on Sunday about how the Holocaust is just a means for Israel to blackmail the world and oppress Palestinians.

For years I've been using a service for my email newsletters, Feedburner, that has been essentially unsupported. Lately people have been complaining about problems receiving the emails and other issues.

So I switched everyone to a new newsletter format powered by Nouri.sh.

I don't know if this will have any glitches, and I see that it only excerpts the beginnings of articles instead of showing the entire post, but for now it will have to do until I find something better.

From Daily News Egypt:

The [Egyptian] armed forces say they have discovered and destroyed the openings of six tunnels found in a mosque in the Gaza border town of Rafah.

The tunnels, discovered on Saturday, are thought to have been used by “extremist elements” for “smuggling and infiltration to and from the Gaza Strip in order to intensify their activity in northern Sinai,” said an armed forces statement on Sunday.

Egypt’s armed forces have been targeting the network of tunnels that are known smuggling routes into the Gaza strip, with some large enough to transport vehicles under the border.

The tunnel openings were found behind Al-Nasr Mosque’s washroom, behind the pulpit, one in the southern corner and three “from the bottom of the mosque”, according to the armed forces.

The armed forces destroyed the tunnels using machinery and flooding them with water.
You mean, Egypt is attacking a mosque that was used to smuggle weapons for terrorists?

I'm sure we will be seeing huge headlines about this in the mainstream media any minute now.

European Jewish Congress: Amid rising anti-Semitism, Jewish life in Europe unsustainable
“Normative Jewish life in Europe is unsustainable,” European Jewish Congress President Dr. Moshe Kantor said on Sunday. Presenting the results of a study on worldwide anti-Semitism in 2013 by the eponymous Kantor Center for the Study of Contemporary European Jewry at Tel Aviv University, Kantor cited increasing anti-Semitism and rising “fear and insecurity” as factors leading to a European Jewish decline.
Citing a November study by the European Union’s Agency for Fundamental Rights which showed that almost a third of Jews in several European countries are mulling emigration, Kantor asserted that “Jews do not feel safe or secure in certain communities in Europe.”
“According to that survey, almost half of the Jewish population is afraid of being verbally or physically attacked in a public place because they are Jewish and 25% of Jews will not wear anything that identifies them as Jewish or go near a Jewish institution for fear of an attack,” he said.
Honest Reporting: Palestinian Christian Reveals the Reality Over the Propaganda
In April 2012, CBS’s 60 Minutes broadcast one of the most biased pieces of reporting of that year (and a Dishonest Reporter Award finalist) on the status of Christians in the Holy Land. Bob Simon presented an unbalanced picture blaming Israel for virtually every difficulty experienced by Palestinian Christians.
The segment included an interview with Christy, a young Palestinian from Bethlehem, whose family home had been affected by Israel’s security barrier on three sides. Christy was forced to flee to the UK to escape persecution by Palestinians who disagree with her political views and sympathy for Israel’s case. At meeting in London in 2013, Christy explained to me how Bob Simon and CBS had, through selective editing, misrepresented her views on the security barrier and the situation of Christians in Bethlehem.
Christy greatly impressed me, both for her courageous stance and the intelligent manner in which she presented her side of the Palestinian issue in stark contrast to the anti-Israel propaganda that so dominates the discourse.
CAMERA: 60 Minutes Source Undermines Credibility of Segment Aired in 2012
After speaking in defense of Israel's right to exist with her fellow Palestinians, Christy reports she was threatened by one of her own family members – who said he would put a bullet in her head if she didn't stop talking in defense of Israel. The explanation for the threat was that she was putting her family in danger by speaking out in Israel's defense.
During her talk in Sweden, Christy also described how one of her uncles was shot in the head and blinded for his refusal to pay protection money, or “al-jizyah,” to Muslim extremists in the West Bank.
His life was only saved by the treatment he received in an Israeli hospital. She also describes how Palestinian judges have colluded with the theft of land from Christians in Palestinian society.

The progressive-left, and the grassroots / netroots of the Democratic Party, has betrayed its Jewish constituency through its acceptance of anti-Semitic anti-Zionism, and the BDS movement, as part of its larger coalition.

This betrayal is a symptom of the undermining of progressive-left values due to the ascendancy of the multicultural ideal over that of universal human rights within the heart of the western progressive movement and of the Democratic Party in the United States and the West, more generally.

The undermining of universal human rights as a core value within the progressive movement led also to the betrayal of women, the betrayal of Gay people, and the betrayal of Christians throughout Islamic regions of dominance, particularly in the Middle East and Africa, but also in Europe.

It also brought the defamation of Jewish supporters of Israel as something akin to Nazis or "ZioNazis," as is sometimes claimed, in a delicious inversion of historical reality for the purpose of beating up Jews as guilty for the very crime that murdered our families.

The movement to boycott, divest from, and sanction the Jews of the Middle East (BDS), which has found a home for itself within the international progressive-left and the grassroots / netroots of the Democratic party in the United States, has a history that goes to traditional Islamic Jew hatred, Nazi Germany, and the Soviet Union.

Within traditional Islam, of course, the Jews were mainly considered second and third-class non-citizens for 1,300 years throughout the region, including the Jewish homeland of Judaea and Samaria. The Arab-Muslim boycott of the Jews is derived, in part, from the fact that within al-Sharia no land that was ever under Islamic control can ever be considered anything but part of the vast Arab-Muslim holdings of Dar al-Islam. The Arab boycott of the Jews, in the twentieth-century, was also heavily influenced by the earlier Nazi boycott of Jewish goods which served as an example and inspiration that long outlived World War II; a war that actually never ended for the Jews of the Middle East.

Soviet Communism, of course, allied with the Arab states against the Jewish State of Israel during the Cold War and Marxist ideology, as it expressed itself in the west, opposed all forms of nationalism, but particularly Jewish nationalism.

The rise of post-modernity and neo-colonial theory within western academic fields in the humanities, following World War II, gave rise to important theorists such as the late Edward Said, of Columbia University, and Rashid Khalidi, of the University of Chicago, both of whom represent significant influences on the political ideology of US president Barack Obama.

Meanwhile a new generation of Israeli historians, including Benny Morris, Ilan Pappé, and Avi Shlaim, sought to deconstruct the idealized founding myths of the Jewish State in order to allegedly present a more balanced historical picture.

All of these factors came together in the beginning of the twenty-first century to create a political alliance between "Arab Spring" Sharia Islamists, of the type aboard the Turkish Mavi Marmara, and western progressives, including significant "liberal" politicians, who joined them aboard that ship for the purpose of freeing Hamas to break that blockade and bring additional weaponry into Gaza in May 2010.

Thus, through the final months of 2012, Hamas and Islamic Jihad and their allies could launch hundreds of rockets against the minority Jewish population of the Middle East without any concern by the western progressive-left, including most of progressive-left Jewry. And, yet, when Israel finally hit back the Jews of the Middle East were castigated as something akin to Nazis by many within western-left circles.

From FARS News:
Iran's Ambassador to Beirut Qazanfar Roknabadi and leaders of over 30 Lebanese parties discussed the latest developments in the region, and stressed the need for exchanging their experiences to overcome the regional problems.

In the meeting on Saturday, the participants reviewed bilateral relations, the latest international and regional developments, Lebanon and Syria.

The Lebanese political activists also expressed support for Iran's peaceful nuclear program and also praised Iran's policy and stance, especially in defending Palestine.

Roknabadi, for his part, underlined Iran's support for resistance and said that on top of Iran's priorities is the issue of resistance against the Zionist regime.
Just in case you are unclear of what he means by "resistance," or if you think it is against the "occupation," read this section from Hezbollah's official program:
Our primary assumption in our fight against Israel states that the Zionist entity is aggressive from its inception, and built on lands wrested from their owners, at the expense of the rights of the Muslim people. Therefore our struggle will end only when this entity is obliterated.
Hezbollah is part of the "resistance" Iran is referring to.

Iran is saying clearly, in its own media, that Israel's destruction is its top priority - not pursuit of nuclear power, not fixing its economy, not human rights, not advancing Islam.

Just destroying Israel.

Here is the entire statement from Mahmoud Abbas on Holocaust Remembrance Day:
In response to a question on the occasion of Holocaust Day, raised in conversation with Rabbi Marc Schneier, President Mahmoud Abbas said that: what happened to the Jews in the Holocaust is the most heinous crime to have occurred against humanity in the modern era. He expressed his sympathy with the families of the victims and many other innocent people who were killed by the Nazis.

President Abbas stressed that the Holocaust is a reflection of the concept of ethnic discrimination and racism which the Palestinians strongly reject and act against.

'The world must do its utmost to fight racism and injustice in order to bring justice and equality to oppressed people wherever they are. The Palestinian people, who suffer from injustice, oppression and denied freedom and peace, are the first to demand to lift the injustice and racism that befell other peoples subjected to such crimes.'

'On the incredibly sad commemoration of Holocaust Day, we call on the Israeli government to seize the current opportunity to conclude a just and comprehensive peace in the region, based on the two states vision, Israel and Palestine living side by side in peace and security.'
If he had shut up after the first paragraph, it could be argued that this is significant. As it is, Abbas is cynically using the Holocaust as a way to say that Jews are doing to Palestinian Arabs the same "injustice"  and "oppression" that Jews suffered under Nazis. Jews are merely other people who are subjected to "such crimes" that Palestinian Arabs suffer today. The Holocaust, in Abbas words, changes from an almost successful attempt to destroy an entire people into a mere "reflection of discrimination and racism."

At the very same moment of this cynical statement, Abbas is demanding to ethnically cleanse Judea and Samaria of every single Jew who lives there today.

And today you can read his own book that denies the Holocaust from his official webpage - copyright renewed 2011.

Why does the world continue to be dazzled by statements made by accomplished liars?

From  Malay Mail Online:

Feminism is a facade used by a secret Zionist-Christian alliance to dishonour Muslim women, according to Ikatan Muslimin Malaysia (Isma) president Abdullah Zaik Abdul Rahman.

He said feminism, which seeks to promote women’s rights and gender equality, is a cynical ploy which aims to commoditise women and help capitalists control the world.

“The model introduced by the west is a model that will destroy women especially Muslim women… all these slogans of women’s liberation, under the name of women’s rights, would actually turn women into objects of trade and help their attempt to dominate the world and Muslims,” Zaik told a press conference after opening the Isma Women’s Convention yesterday

“All the fight for women’s rights upheld by the West like feminism is actually a facade.”

Since Malaysia’s general elections in 2013, the non-governmental organisation has been growing in popularity, striking a chord with more conservative Malay Muslims who support its push for Malaysia to become an Islamic state.

The president of the conservative Islamist group added that feminism will not improve the standing of women and that Muslim women embracing feminism would fall into the trap of the “Jewish capitalist” conspiracy.

Zaik also argued that the rationalism and critical thinking promoted by feminism was a way to trick Muslim women into abandoning Islam.

“The west is trying to paint Muslim women as conservative, uncritical not progressive. This comes from the ideology of rationalism that idolises rational (thinking).

“They are trying to trick Muslims into being critical of Islam, the hadith. If you are critical then you are portrayed as modern and rational,” he said.

Zaik said Muslim women should instead look towards Isma’s campaign to promote “moderation” among women.

He said that “moderation” meant concealing the body and being demure.
I love how Malaysian Muslim antisemites always forget to translate their bigotry into socially acceptable "anti-Zionist" terms.

Ma'an reports:
President Mahmoud Abbas said Saturday that the unity government would continue to follow previous PLO policies and that he remains willing to extend peace talks with Israel, which halted the talks in response to a Fatah-Hamas unity deal signed earlier in the week.

"The upcoming government will obey my policy," Abbas told the PLO council. "I recognize Israel and reject violence and terrorism, and recognize international commitments."
What does Hamas have to say? So far, despite days of PLO officials promising that they accept existing agreements with Israel, Hamas has not uttered a peep except for an MP who disagreed vehemently.

In reaction to this speech, however, Hamas tried to distance itself from that part about recognizing Israel emphasized by Abbas:
Ehab Ghussein, spokesman for the Hamas government in Gaza, said that "the speech of President Abu Mazen is mostly positive, except for some things that need to be emphasized. That which was contained in the agreement relates to the government of national consensus, and the only agreements we made [Cairo and Doha] for a government of national consensus have nothing to do in regard to political [policy] and are and non-binding, [such as whether the unity government would] recognize or not recognize Israel."

Ghuessin is correct: the Doha and Cairo agreements said nothing about the unified government's political positions on anything.

Saeb Erekat, the PLO's chief negotiator, took a different tack, saying that of course Hamas is not obligated to recognize Israel to be part of the government. Indeed, he said that they have the right no to recognize Israel.  Abbas added that Israel is interfering with internal Palestinian affairs by making such demands, and he added that Hamas is not a terrorist organization.

Both Hamas and the PLO are trying to have it both ways, playing Hamas as newly moderate to the West while insisting that Hamas has not changed at all to their own people.

What is ridiculous about this whole charade is not that Hamas is being misrepresented so that wishful-thinking Westerners will turn a blind eye to its explicit statements of support for terror and of destroying Israel.

No, what is ridiculous is that Fatah is exactly the same as Hamas in both those attributes but no one can say that aloud in English - not Israel which was forced to accept the terrorists of Fatah as a "peace partner," not the US and EU which believe that Fatah is somehow more moderate than Hamas.

Maybe Abbas is personally against terror and recognizes Israel in a limited way. But the fact remains that he is the head of Fatah which still, to this day, maintains several "military wings" including one that shot rockets towards Israel as recently as last month. Fatah's current political platform embraces terrorism. Abbas said explicitly in 2009 that there was no substantive difference between Fatah and Hamas.

And the PLO is controlled by Fatah.

This is the truth that no one dares to say out loud, and this is why the entire drama of the supposed unity between Hamas and Fatah is of little real consequence. The disagreement between Fatah and Hamas is not on their fundamental positions, but on how willing they are to lie about them.

UPDATE: Hamas has said explicitly it will not recognize Israel. And it is threatening to sue anyone who says otherwise. (Does that include Abbas?)

From Ian:

LATMA 2012: Hamas and Fatah with the song "Anyone You Can Fool I Can Fool Better"

Why Does Jimmy Carter Ignore Hamas Terrorism?
Here is the Elders’ statement applauding the Palestinian unity deal. In the past, Elder delegations have traveled to Gaza to parlay with Hamas and have called for the lifting of a blockade which, of course, did not prevent the import of food, medicine, or building materials, but only mandated an inspection given Hamas’s predilection for rocketry, explosives, and terrorism. Carter and his fellow Elders have ignored Hamas terrorism and remained completely uninterested in details or facts that would interfere in their narrative of demonizing Israel. Indeed, Carter has even gone so far as to falsify his own notes in order to rewrite history to exculpate Syrian dictator Hafez al-Assad.
That Mary Robinson has joined Carter in the most recent statement praising the Hamas deal also shouldn’t surprise. After all, she was the sponsor of the UN’s so-called “World Conference against Racism, Racial Discrimination, Xenophobia and Related Intolerance” which, under her leadership, became an orgy of anti-Semitic hatred. And, while she led the UN Human Rights Commission, she presided over the passage of a resolution that endorsed suicide bombing against civilians as legitimate under international law. Hence, her love affair with Hamas seems par for the course.
NYU SJP Denies Israel's Legal Right to Exist
A day after the New York University chapter of Students for Justice in Palestine distributed anti-Semitic mock eviction notices on campus, the group doubled down on its Jew hatred. The group took to Twitter to deny Israel's legal right to exist.
@Laura_E_Adkins @WildFTracks @MaxBlumenthal The existence of Israel is in undeniably a flagrant violation of UN Resolutions and int'l law
— NYU SJP (@NYUSJP) April 24, 2014
NYU SJP also claimed that Israel is a settler colonial state guilty of ethnically cleansing Palestinians:
CNN's Jim Clancy's 'Jaw-Droppingly Awful' Interview About Palestinian Unification Deal
On Friday, CNN Reporter Jim Clancy conducted an eight-minute interview with Palestinian spokesperson Hanan Ashrawi and former Israeli Ambassador Dore Gold that was unique in its level of bias and lack of professionalism of the interviewer.
Clancy allowed Ashrawi to regurgitate the Palestinian talking points about the Fatah/Hamas reconciliation deal for the first four minutes of the interview and trash Israel in the last minute and in-between accusingly asked Gold if an Israeli attack on terrorists in Gaza was done to try and scuttle the reconciliation deal (and ignored his answer).
When he turned to Ambassador Gold, his first question was, "Did he [Prime Minister Netanyahu] personally order that strike on Gaza as they were in the midst of celebrating this deal?" making the implication that the strike was done to break up the celebration. Gold responded that Israeli military actions in Gaza had no link to the deal or its celebration. Cutting off Gold in the middle of his answer, Clancy asked about the civilian casualties. Finally the former Ambassador was able to return to the Hamas/Fatah deal and Hamas' long record of terrorism.

From a report by the Carter Center about Syria last month:

While it is true that at least the Carter Center is reporting on Syria when most organizations ignore it, the use of "PBUH" (and "Prophet", for that matter)  indicates a less than objective viewpoint from Jimmy.

Just in case it crosses your mind that Carter is simply adopting the terminology used by locals as a gesture of respect, the Carter Center consistently refers to the Kotel, or Western Wall, as the "Wailing Wall" - a name that Jews never use and one that is, frankly, a little offensive in this day and age.
