Generally when people speak about Palestinians in Jordan, they think about the majority who have full Jordanian citizenship.

They are still treated as not real Jordanians, and the native Jordanians regard them as people who will leave one day to live across the river. But they do have all of the benefits of citizenship.

However, there are a lot of Palestinians in Jordan who have no citizenship, no health benefits, and very few human rights. They are mostly the Palestinians who came from Gaza after the 1967 war.

Although UNRWA counts them as "Palestine refugees," they are not refugees by any measure. They came over voluntarily, well after the Six Day War, because they didn't want to live under Jewish rule. This New York Times article from November 7, 1967 says that even then, hundreds of Palestinian Arabs who couldn't leave Gaza under Egyptian rule were crossing into Jordan every day, and the reporter could not find one of them who said that the Israelis mistreated them.

How many are there? According to UNRWA, there are 158,000 - about 7%. But a census done in 2016 counted an astonishing 634,000 Palestinians who do not have national ID numbers.

This means that they are barred from the majority of positions in the public sector.
They are banned from many professions such as dentistry, engineering and law.
They need special work permits to obtain jobs in the private sector.
They have limited property rights.  Up until recently, they could not own land at all.
They have limited or no services from the Jordanian National Aid Fund.
They cannot attend state universities or are forced to pay much higher fees than citizens.
They are ineligible for government health insurance, which means that any major medical procedure keeps them in poverty.
Even the ones born in Jordan are not eligible to become citizens.

There are more stateless Palestinians in Jordan today than there were Arabs who fled Israel in the 1948 "nakba."

Yet who even knows about this huge group of people? Who talks about them? Why is there such a discrepancy between UNRWA's estimates and Jordan's census in even counting them?

This is real apartheid against some 28% of the Palestinians in Jordan. Human rights groups are mostly silent.

And no one calls this "apartheid."

(Based on a Monday Twitter thread)

The lies of @btselem are so egregious.

Here are some screenshots from their position paper that pretends to prove that Israel is an apartheid state. Their arguments are not only weak – they are self-contradictory.

Image

Jews cannot travel to Area A. Or Area B. Or Gaza. And severe limitations on the Temple Mount. So by B'Tselem's definition, Jews are the ones under apartheid.

In fact, the only people who can freely travel to all areas of the West Bank and Israel are Arabs in Jerusalem, who have far more freedom of movement than Jews do.

Image

If nations giving preference to their own national group over others is apartheid, then most European countries are apartheid. Every Arab country is apartheid. Armenia, Ireland, Japan – all these nations have preferential immigration policies for people who share the ethnicity of the majority of the nation.

Worse, though, is that B'Tselem  ignores why Israel has a Law of Return. it must be nice to think that 2000 years of antisemitism has disappeared, and that Nazi Germany’s Jew-hatred isn't worth remembering anymore, but the Jewish people are a nation and they have been pushed out of many countries over history.

B’Tselem, instead of acknowledging antisemitism, is hell-bent on perpetuating it.

Image

If even B'Tselem admits that Israeli Jews and Arabs have the same freedom of movement - in fact, Israeli Arabs have MORE - then where is the apartheid and "Jewish supremacy"?

Answer: Even B’Tselem knows this is a sham. .

Image

So Israeli Arabs have full political rights. Doesn’t that completely destroy the entire “apartheid” argument?

There is some racism in Israel. Just like in the rest of the world. If that is apartheid, then the word loses all meaning.

B'Tselem knows this. Their entire argument is hand-waving, and nothing that relates to real apartheid. They want to demonize Israel, not fight for human rights, because they can raise more funds from modern antisemites than anyone else. And when antisemites pay your salary, over the years you tend to agree with them.

"Israel Apartheid Week" might be a bust this year, but that doesn't mean I can't keep ripping it "apart."

From the Jerusalem Post:

Eden Alene became the first Israeli of Ethiopian descent chosen to represent Israel at Eurovision when she won The Next Star for Eurovision 2020 competition Tuesday night.

“I’m so happy and incredibly emotional, I wanted this so much,” she said in an interview with Channel 12’s Nadav Bornstein following her victory. "It is a great honor for me. This is my country and it is amazing that an Ethiopian will represent the country for the first time."
Alene was raised in Jerusalem's Katamonim neighborhood by a single mother who immigrated from Ethiopia, and later moved with her family to Kiryat Gat. “My poor mother, she had a hard time taking it in. She collapsed in my arms,” Alene, 19, said on The Morning News show.
Alene was the winner of the third season of Israel's X-Factor 2018.
Which makes her a wonderful addition to the continuing "Apartheid?" poster series.

Here are a couple of others I have not yet posted:

I didn't realize that I had made one for Eden when she won X-Factor:

Time to get ready for this year's months-long "Israel Apartheid Week" with some new examples of how Israel accepts people of all colors, faiths and backgrounds.

Continuing my series of prominent counter-examples to the lie that "Israel is an apartheid state"...

Here's an example of her work and a brief bio:

As the recipient of the 2018 Haim Shiff Prize for Figurative-Realist Art, a prestigious award given each year by the Tel Aviv Museum of Art, Samah Shihadi is headed toward the spotlight. In addition to the $10,000 prize, Shihadi will show her work in a solo exhibition at the museum in June 2019.

Born in a small Muslim village in the Western Galilee, 31-year-old Shihadi thought she would return to her village after her studies to become a teacher and raise a family, like other women in her life. Instead she started to draw, depicting Arab women and giving them a voice.

Her delicate pencil-on-paper drawings are often centered around the female body, exploring feminism and the identity of the Arab woman. In a work evocative of Leonardo da Vinci’s masterpiece “The Vitruvian Man,” currently exhibited at Jerusalem’s Museum of Islamic Art, Shihadi depicts a woman rather than a man, whose body is mostly covered by a sheet of cloth, suggesting exclusion or repression.

Shihadi now lives and works in Haifa, where she completed a master’s degree in art. Her work has been shown in shows and galleries across Israel, from Tel Aviv to Haifa, Umm el Fahem and Ramallah.

The months-long "Israel Apartheid Week" kicked off this year, so time to add to my never-ending series of proofs that Israel is anything but.

Taya has received a lot of grief from Arabs and leftist Israelis who hate the idea that a proud young Muslim woman is also a proud Zionist.

From Israel's MFA in February, 2016:

President of Israel Reuven Rivlin (9 February 2016) addressed a ceremony at the President's Residence marking the appointment of seven new Qadis - judges in the Muslim religious (Shariah) courts in Israel. The event was attended by Justice Minsiter Ayelet Shaked MK, as well as the President of the Shariah Court of Appeal Qadi Daoud Zini, and saw the appointment of two Shariah Court of Appeal judges, and five who will serve in the regional Shariah Courts.

The President began by congratulating all the newly appointed judges and said, "Your appointment today serves directly and tangibly the entire Muslim community of Israel. The ceremony today is especially poignant and special, as the last such appointment ceremony for Qadis held at the President's Residence was more than six years ago. Your swearing in today is a tribute to the important work of the appointment committee, whom I wish to personally thank. The new forces joining the Shariah judiciary today refresh and bring new strength and spirit to one of the oldest and most important judicial systems in the State of Israel."

The President stressed, "The existence of the state-supported Shariah courts in Israel, reflects the recognition of the unparalleled importance of the vitality of communities, cultures and traditions to the fabric of the life in the modern state. The authority of the Shariah courts - as assured by Israeli law - to me reflects the fundamental principle that an attachment to faith, to tradition, to a culture and community, is not solely the issue of the individual. Such affiliations are a basic right of a citizen in a democracy, and accordingly it is the obligation of the state to support and nurture them."

Since then, Israel has appointed the first female Qadi judge:

Stephane Legar is a dancer, model and singer. He was born in Israel but his parents are from Togo. He did the official theme song of the Israeli basketball league and teamed up with Israeli pop stars Static & Ben El Tavori and Noa Kirel and Ivri Lider. He also served in the IDF and performed in the kids show the Festigal.

Eden Elena is the 17-year old Ethiopian X-Factor contestant we mentioned earlier this month not only for her singing but also for how the audience reacted to her discussing her background and her commitment to coexistence between Jews, Muslims and Christians.

Last night, she won.

Here is her rendition of "Human" after her victory.

This seems appropriate as it happens shortly before of the annual two-month long "Israel Apartheid Week" slander on college campuses.

All the "Apartheid?" posters can be seen here.

It is that time of year again when idiots accuse Israel of being guilty of "apartheid."

So it is also time for me to add to my popular series of posters that disprove the slander.

The poster series has been viewed hundreds of thousands of times.

Two women from Israel’s Ethiopian community broke through the glass ceiling on Tuesday, becoming the first to be appointed judges. They were among six women who were included in the 13 new judicial appointments as judges and registrars serving in the district, magistrate’s and traffic courts in Haifa and Tel Aviv.

Although there is no shortage of Ethiopian-Israeli lawyers, none had previously reached the bench.

At the appointments ceremony at the President’s Residence, Ednaki Sebhat Haimowitz and Esther Tafta Gardi were the last two judges to be called to make the pledge not to pervert the law or to show favor. Haimowitz has been appointed to the Central District Magistrate’s Court, and Gardi to the Haifa District Traffic Court.

Today, at a beach in Bat Yam, I saw a bunch of giggling Muslim girls, fully covered, who were showering the sand off their hijabs after hanging at the beach for a while along with lots of Jews.

Just like South Africa during apartheid.
